What would be your "one last straw"?

If it got to feeling more like an all-inclusive resort: subpar meals, hot all the time (underpowered or no AC), lots of bugs... yeah, hot and buggy ships, that would be our deal-breaker.

I think you have not been lately in an all-inclusive. The nice ones don't just cut the nice drinks, like Cruise-lines are able to do so. You buy one thing and get an other.

If all the cruise friends we've made on Celebrity stopped sailing with them we'd probably switch too.

I agree-we have become great friends with folks we originally met cruising, and getting together with them is one of the most important appeals now.

Happy Sails to You

I would say it would be a combination of things and it would have to be a combination of multiple things I like.

One of them has already happened. I used to really enjoy the lobster on formal nights and on our last 2 cruises with Celebrity it was almost absent. It was called Seafood medley, they were small and it seemed awkward by the wait staff. I like the snails, so cutting them out would be another straw.

We have evolved and become low maintenance cruisers. Our last cruise, we went to one show, did not even go to Captains Club evening events for the free drinks as we were with other friends we convinced to sail with Celebrity and thus not Elite.

I think as others have mentioned, that in our opinion, when Celebrity becomes like the other cruise lines offerings, then we will not give Celebrity the extra edge. Still could sail on Celebrity, but not a given. For example, right now, Celebrity is our first choice, thus other cruise lines have to WOW us to get us off Celebrity.

If I had to pick one big thing by category, it is the trend in my opinion, of 'class' system for all kinds of things especially in public spaces AND the trend of ala carte pricing. I liked the concept when we first started sailing that we did not need money, nor did not at every turn need to provide a sea pass card whether to show our class status or to charge our folio. This may be happening on all cruise lines which would mean for me, at least, that I would look for other vacation options outside of cruising. I do love cruising, so I hope not. I do love our FL beach house, so for me I do have a nice alternative.

I would stop going if dining room food was sobad you would have to go specialty every night ..at 50$ Per person a pop these would end my cruising days rather quickly ...i do not intend to go to any at that price I really do not care how good they say the food is ...

I already paid for it in my cruise fare which is seldom cheap !!!

I really think anything over 25$ is outrageous

Also if entertainment were reallybad that would bug me .

Already Princess has reduced the duration of the shows making them really short....and lately they have hired subpar entertainers .....old croonies ,jugglers ..oy

If smoking venues became larger rather than smaller ...I prefer no smoking anywhere indoors nor in cabins or balconie

A smoke free Casino for me is a must now ..brave Celebrity ...now if you could only make them pay out ...LOL

I agree with you.

Also for us, one of the main reasons we loved cruising was the great food and service in the MDR and the MDR experience. DH and I love sitting at big tables and meeting others. If we had to go to a specialty restaurant every evening and just sit with each other --- well --- we do that at home -- on our vacations we want something different.

It's all about the people for me. Through the years we've met many wonderful people on board including the staff and crew. There has always been a very large majority of kind, considerate, interesting people on board and we are fortunate to have wonderful friends we've met through cruising. When that changes, I'm gone.

If they stopped the drinks packages we would not be happy- we love the convenience of the premium package. The 123 offers have been great but we are always happy to pay for the premium package if there is no offer on the cruise we want.

If they stopped offering select dining we would also not be happy-I couldn't imaging going back to fixed dining-I know others like that but it's just not for us.

And finally if X even think about introducing MUTS (those huge noisy TV screens above the pool which completely ruin any chance of relaxing in the sun on a sea day) then I'm afraid it will be time for X and I to call it a day:D

If they canceled a port BEFORE the cruise started (thus not due to weather) but after final payment as Princess Ruby canceled Istanbul 3 or 4 years ago. No explanation was given. We were looking at booking Princess for our Istanbul cruise as we had cruised with them many times, but after that we booked Celebrity to Istanbul instead and the rest is history.

we are so way off being near a last straw that I would not have a clue what would stop me. We've come close with RCCL as the officers were so bad on the last cruise, it filtered through the staff and you could not get anything you wanted or needed and you'd turn up for a booked time for dinner and there would be no seats for 45 minutes or they would tell you a set table for the same time and each time you arrived someone else was on it and we had to go back to the MDR who had waved us straight in, to find another table

If the smoking policy allowed more smoking.

If the staff became so overworked it hurt service and becomes painful to observe.

Years ago we were livid when Princess (and probably most lines) started charging for cappuccinos . We talked about stopping cruising. Obviously we've gotten used to it.

But we did have a bad experience with overworked staff on the Eclipse last year and have decided to hope it was a one-off and give it another chance this year.

If we find the same thing again we'll be back to Princess.

This goes to show how hard it is for a cruise line to please everyone. Some love the glass blowing and some of us have never seen it. Some love large tables and some love eating alone. Some love escargot and some can't stand the slimy snails (I like them by the way).

I'm not sue what would drive me away. Price would be the big driver I think. As someone else mentioned, we are low maintenance cruisers. We do not do any specialty restaurants, aren't big drinkers but do tend to go to the shows and the casino. We pretty much go with the flow. What I did miss on my Carnival cruise last week (Breeze is a nice ship) was the hot breakfast for room service, the Cova Cafe, or whatever it is called on S class, with the free pastries and sandwiches, the smoking policy, welcome aboard sparkling wine and the shows. Carnival used to have some good ones but cut them all to 30 min with basically no production value.

Celebrity is still my choice because I still feel I get a more "upscale" cruise for the money. Not even sure if that is the right word but you know what I mean. We know what cabins we like, we know the ship, all the secrets so to speak. Something nice about that.

There was nothing wrong with my Breeze cruise and the ship is much more like an S class than like an older carnival ship. But even though we had a blast it was different. But, if Celebrity started raising prices then I'd reconsider.

When it starts to being no fun and for us not a good value.

There have been many things that we have done thru the years that we have stopped doing for those reasons.

Use to frequent Disney but it no linger appeals to us.

Use to make trips visiting amusement parks to ride the coasters. No longer appeals to use.

Use to go to Vegas 4 to 5 times a year. Vegas and all of the casinos have lost their appeal.

Use to camp. No longer want to do that.

Use to go to AI's but they lost their appeal.

I can go on and on.

Looking at the overall picture even though those things don't appeal to me or just because I don't enjoy doing those things many still do as the attendance increases yearly and their prices continue to rise, along with cut backs and changes.

So if they cancelled the glass show would you stop cruising altogether?

I think he means that if there no glass shows, other cruise lines would get his business.

For me truly lousy food and unkempt staterooms and public areas would do it. So far no cruise line has come close, thank goodness, although my first cruise on a Greek line's ship came mighty close, but I was young and didn't know better.

If all their ships sunk.

But it has been determined that the glass show contract will not be renewed when they expire later this year. Sad to see the OP leave. The other lines do not offer a cruise product like Celebrity.

What do you mean by "it has been determined?" How do you know that? If that's true, when do the contracts expire?

I'm changing my answer - I was nowhere near last straw however just read the thread re the comfort dogs being on board, fouling the deck, casino etc and the owner not cleaning it up

Being allergic to dogs - that would do it for me

We do too. Our last cruise we ate 3 times in Speciality restaurant on a 14 day cruise. Others at our table ate elsewhere also, so there were evenings with only half a table.

Still we like the idea of table mates. We have also met others on ship and then together ate together in Speciality Restaurants.

For arguments sake, if the HG Show was to go, where would you go? Princess? Louis Cruise?

For me the last straw has come many times, usually around midnight. :p

This is what it looked like on our last cruise,,,
