maurella Posted May 17, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 17, 2014 We are intending to book on the Nieuw Amsterdam and this will be our first visit to the northern hemisphere. My husband gets a bit seasick(though he still loves to cruise) so we always try to stay low and centre of the ship. I see the Queens Lounge is over the main deck, does anyone know how bad the noise levels are for the cabins below.
Krazy Kruizers Posted May 17, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 17, 2014 Welcome to Cruise Critic. If your ship has the BB King group on board, you will hear them.
lynn2002 Posted May 17, 2014 #3 Share Posted May 17, 2014 We're on main deck this summer, below what looks like the piano bar/casino. Will we experience noise? Also, if we do, what time do those venues close? Don't want to sound like a kill joy but with a child and a port intensive cruise, she's going to need her sleep. Krazy Kruizers Posted May 17, 2014 #4 Share Posted May 17, 2014 Casino is quieter than the Piano Bar. The Piano Bar opens at 9 PM. Depending on how good he/she is, depends on the crowd that is attracted and how late it will stay open. Remember that people do like to sing along. It will probably close down by 1 AM. RuthC Posted May 17, 2014 #5 Share Posted May 17, 2014 Unlike KK, I've actually stayed on Main Deck on all the Vista ships, as well as the Eurodam, many, many times. I have been under the Queen's Lounge primarily, but also Northern Lights, Casino, and closer to the Piano Bar. I have never heard any noise from any of those locations. I would recommend a cabin on starboard side, and closer to mid-ship, however, just to minimize the chances of noise from above. The Queen's Lounge is not open for events many nights, and when it is, usually closes down by 11:30. The Piano Bar rarely goes beyond midnight (I spend most of my later evenings in there). Northern Lights can run later, even though there are few passengers who go there. Staff does spend some time in there. Of course, the casino is open as long as they are taking in enough money, so closing time can vary. The cabins on this deck are large, and comfortable. It's handy to the Front Desk, Shore Excursion Office, and the lower entrance to the Show Lounge. I love it down there.
innlady1 Posted May 17, 2014 #6 Share Posted May 17, 2014 We were on the Main Deck...for the 1st time... on the Noordam this winter and loved it. I do know that people who were under the Queen's Lounge were disturbed by BBKing each night. It would be the same on the Nieuw Amsterdam.
Louise sail Posted May 17, 2014 #7 Share Posted May 17, 2014 We were in the second cabin from the front under the piano bar no noise from people, but in middle of night the dishwasher from piano bar would start beeping to signal completion and that would wake me up.Front desk finally reason for beeping sound after many nights and I sleep all night last two nights of ten day cruise. Rare boards Posted May 17, 2014 #8 Share Posted May 17, 2014 (edited) Thank you for the insight on the cabins on the main deck. We have been considering them some day, as we usually book inside cabins on ships the size of the Volendam and Maasdam. Of course we will take an upgrade to a veranda cabin if offered. CGYCruisingFamily Posted May 17, 2014 #9 Share Posted May 17, 2014 We are booked almost directly below the entrance to the Queens Lounge (inside room) in August. Hoping we dont hear it too much. My dad says we shouldnt but we will see (they have been in the cabin they are in before and said they heard nothing).
fun cruiserz Posted May 17, 2014 #10 Share Posted May 17, 2014 We just returned from the Med on Nieuw Amsterdam. BB King's plays in the Queens Lounge, 2 - 3 shows per night 8:45, 9:45 and 10:45pm. Each show being 45 min in length, so that would put the last show ending at 11:30pm. I would think those cabins would hear the noise from the show. Boatdrill Posted May 18, 2014 #12 Share Posted May 18, 2014 (edited) . My husband gets a bit seasick(though he still loves to cruise) so we always try to stay low and centre of the ship. I see the Queens Lounge is over the main deck, does anyone know how bad the noise levels are for the cabins below. Have sailed on the NA many times and with one exception, have always been in cat. C rooms, starboard side. These are mid-ship rooms and I've never heard anything from above. The only time there was noise was when in a cat D (1042), port side. Northern Lights was above me, and they were very busy until the "wee hours". Lesson learned. Next time, I'm back over on the starboard side. :) Edited May 18, 2014 by Boatdrill
per Posted May 25, 2014 #13 Share Posted May 25, 2014 If the cacin is beneath the Queens Lounge, there will be quite a bit of noise from the night club and from the Queens Lounge.
