Oaisis questions maybe food porn?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

We are a family of 7 adults and went on the Allure two weeks ago, we all thought it was the best ship we ever been on and we are thinking of booking another cruise together for next year but have questions:

The Allure staterooms at night did get warm, did anybody that go on the Oasis has this problem? (our thermostat was set on lowest setting)

We never ate in the main dining room but only did all specialty dining each evening, we also didn't find any of the specialty dining to be excellent and to make us want to go back again, therefore, if we go back on this class of ship, we are curious how the food in the main dining room is? Please give us your advice/suggestions/opinions regarding the food in the main dining room also if anybody has any food porn that be truly appreciated! It will just help us in making the decision. Thank you.

I always had the thermo at the lowest setting possible and never once touched the master switch and only two nights I though it was a tad bit warm but nothing that kept me awake at night.

I am a very picky eater and in the MDR there was only one night where none of the Appatisers appealed to me so i Just ordered sliders. If we are being honnest if i was to put the food in the MDR on a scale of 1 to 10 over the whole week id probably give it a 7. its was good enough for me but it didnt really blow me away. :)

Trev was that on the Allure or the Oasis?

That was on the Oasis. But we were on the Allure same time but a year ago and the dinner menu was pretty much excatly the same. the food quality was about the same

Clarea are you saying the Oasis has that menu in solarium instead of the brazillian steakhouse which all of us said was horrible?

I just hate to be uncomfortable again sleeping this is a huge problem for me as I like my sleep, ugh.

That's correct, the Solarium restaurant at night is the Solarium Bistro on Oasis and the Brazillian steakhouse on Allure. Same area, but completely different restaurant on the two ships.

Emperor, this is why I am asking how the food is in the main dining room, but it may be just as good as the specialty restaurants? Even if the food in the main dining room is just ok, I didn't pay extra and didn't expect better so it be fine, just curious how people feel the food is there?

I am booked on Celebrity Silhouette for another cruise and on the cruise boards there I finding many people to be snobbish, opinionated to a point that they are rude, too much drama, etc., its as if some of them are there just for drama and humor. I have had others answer my question and been sincere but it appears Celebrity has more people that are ______. You know where I am going.

This is not the type of people I would like to cruise on, in fact, I really never had that issue here on RC board or on other cruise line boards.

Then I am considering Princess the brand new Regal Princess...my problem is that three out of 7 of us adults who went on the Allure two weeks ago feel that they will feel the very same way about the ship, but in reality, when you already been there and did it, there seems to be a diminished feeling when your on the ship a second time, this is how I feel, although, if it weren't the fact the cabins weren't warm during the night I would probably give in and book up but it was not fun having the cabin at 78 during the night (I have a travel alarm clock and it has a thermometer). :(

I love that menu very diversified! A plus. ;)

Now to hear about the food in the main dining room, but I certainly be going to that Solarium at least twice for that menu.

I agree, we've got an Oasis cruise planned for 2015 and I hope they still have the Bistro then.

Lynda, nothing makes me more uncomfortable than sleeping in warm, stale air. I can not fall asleep and I do not rest well. I suggest a slim travel fan. A little white noise and air circulation makes things more comfortable.

I like RCI Dining Room dinners. I find service to be a little spotty, but when it is good I would say it is every bit as good as any specialty venue. I may have ordered something not to my taste, but I have never had bad food in the dining room. I especially like the duck and the lamb. The food is not seasoned so much as it is sauced; they spruce up a lot of the foods with sauces and gravies which is not ideal. But still, the food is good quality. If you've been to weddings recently expect about the same. Tens of thousands eat it each week on the various ships and no one seems to get off hungry...

LMaxwell hello again. The problem with the fan is the noise, I hate light, noise and warm room ha.

Hi Clarea. I love duck and was disappointed none of the specialty restaurants offered duck. I don't mind if the food isn't seasoned well as its not a 4/5 star restaurant, so I simply add some salt and pepper and be fine. I have to be both gluten and dairy free so I just ask for no gravy/sauces on mine, I am sure they will accommodate. My father in law and my other half also love lamb. It sounds like we be content eating here and sorry we didn't try the main dining room on the Allure.

We are currently on the Oasis, doing b2b. Started May 17 and ends tomorrow. I have pics from all our meals and will post when we get back. We've eaten in the MDR every night except one we ate at Chops. Loved Chops and have enjoyed the MDR as well.

You may enjoy the Celebrity Silhouette more than you did RCI. It's my favourite ship and the staff is excellent. The Celebrity board does seem to have taken a dive lately, it didn't used to be like that. Some of the more established cruisers are unhappy with the changes being made to the brand, but as always with Cruise Critic, it may be grossly exaggerated. Sometimes the issues that seem big on here are barely noticeable in person.

In any case, I sailed the Celebrity Silhouette last August, it was a fantastic cruise with fantastic staff and the food was great.

LoutheGlue sorry your cruise ends tomorrow but b2b is sweet! I can't wait till I see your photos and thank you so very much.

I wonder whether Chops is better on the Oasis I do realize even though the restaurants are the same, they could differ on ship to ship.

Enginerd- The Silhouette is on top of our list and everything you said is so true. I do know if its all about the food Celebrity is the way to go but everybody in the family loved the Allure and wants to go again, but I like to have a change, as so does my daughter, her boyfriend and my father in law well he go wherever we go lol.

Just returned from the Oasis last week. I haven't had the opportunity to post a review with pics yet, but as far as the food goes here is what I would rank each of the places we ate.

Main Dining Room: Service was outstanding. We had a great wait staff at our table. The food was hit or miss. I would agree with a 7 out of a scale of 10 that someone else had mentioned.

Windjammer: Extra crowded. Lines to get in most of the day. Food on the lower side of buffet fare in my opinion. 4 out of 10.

Chops: Ate there 2 nights. Still love the place. Old menu still in place. Outstanding. 10 out of 10.

Park Cafe: Still enjoy the roast beef here, but the place is no longer a secret. Lots of crowds most of the day. 8 out of 10.

Johnny Rockets: Standard burgers. Nothng wrong with that if that's what you're in the mood for. 8 out of 10.

Thank you so your intake of food to me in the main dining room actually is higher than I assumed it was. I hope to hear from others so I can compare notes.

It also appears that Chops may be better in the Oasis than the Allure, on reviews on the Allure people felt the same way as I do when it came to Chops but on the Oasis so far haven't heard anything negative.

I can't wait to hear your review and see those photos!! hehe

I've been on Allure twice and both times I was warm at night so I'm very interested about if The Oasis is the same. I never have a problem on the smaller ships.

Hopefully it's where the cabin is located and not an entire ship problem.

I have been on a number of RC ships this was my first cruise on the Allure this class of ship and I just hated not being comfortable sleeping at night, way too warm. I also like to hear from others that have been on the Oasis if they had the same experience.

I have been on the Oasis three times. 2011, 2012, and just got back a week ago. Our rooms were on the 14, 11, & 17(Upsell fairy as I could never afford it). Altho I live in south Florida I like to sleep in Antarctica. Not once was I unable to keep all three rooms like an igloo.

In 2012 I found the food, especially the seafood almost inedible. Chops was lousy and the only good food we had all week was in Giovanni's. Two years later there was a very noticeable improvement in food everywhere. Must have a different chef now.

Hello,

The Allure staterooms at night did get warm, did anybody that go on the Oasis has this problem? (our thermostat was set on lowest setting)

Just wondering if it might be the balcony door is not shut all the way - I have read the AC does not go on in that case.

I like the cabin to be on the cool side but had no problems on Oasis in February. Did not need to turn the thermostat right down but then the outside air temperature at night was warm but not hot or noticeably humid.

As for Chops, I agree with you. My experience is included in my review: http://cruiseforums.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1992376&page=16

Then I am considering Princess the brand new Regal Princess...my problem is that three out of 7 of us adults who went on the Allure two weeks ago feel that they will feel the very same way about the ship...

We've sailed on the Royal Princess and all our currently booked Princess cruises are on either the Royal or Regal. Although I have yet to sail on the Allure, I don't see any comparison at all with the Royal Princess class of ships. You'll definitely not feel as though you're onboard a RCI ship.

As for food, from what I have heard and read, you can expect a better dining experience on Princess. I'll know more after our August Allure cruise.
