What do you LOVE about P&O?

Having only been a follower of the P&O forum for a short time I noticed that us British can get a bit negative sometimes sooo ........

Just thought we could do with a thread that focussed on the good things about P&O and what we love. You're not allowed to be negative ! ;)

I'd like to start off with the following:

The sailaways from Southampton

No need to fly!

The food in the MDR - for us anyway - lots of smaller courses but more tasty!

The cheeses and aperitifs

Decent wine prices !

No service charges

A reasonable rate for specialist restaurants

A reasonable rate for excursions

The Great British Sailaway - sorry if you don't like this, but we do

The formality of the formal nights - again, we love it

The ships - just love Oceana and hope we fall in love with Britannia

The promenade deck on some of the ships

The history and tradition

The behind the scenes tour we did on Oceana - fantastic

And more importantly - some of the great people we have met on our holidays - either staff or passengers.

Look forward to what you all have to say. :):)

My list of positives for P & O

A wide choice of itineraries from Southampton

The different type of cruise experiences e.g Small ships

Big ships

Medium size ships

Adult only ships

Family ships

Formal nights and how so many passengers join in and dress up.

Letting us bring bottles of drink on board for consumption in the cabin.

Fair drink prices.

Tea and coffee making facilities in the cabin ( and biscuits).

I've enjoyed a couple of the sailaways, especially if another P&O ship is in port.

It's fun when the ships 'talk' to each other.

Yes, there are better cruise lines, but they cost quite a bit more. I did one once and felt a bit ripped off. P&O delivers an excellent product at a good price.JMHO

I'll probably think off a few more later.:)

You are all saying one of the best parts of a P & O cruise is "sailing out of Southampton", no flights! We have just booked our first P & O because it is sailing out of Brisbane! :D Our last cruise we had to fly all the way to Dover...one before that, to Copenhagen....one before that to Fort Lauderdale, those are all about a two day trip just to get there (we try to have a break and stopover in Asia)

Someone mentioned "sailaways". What is so good about a P & O sailaway? On our "usual" cruiseline we also love sailaways, but just wondering if there is something extra to look forward to?

What a great thread :)

I agree with all of the above - and one that hasn't been mentioned is the free safes! Someone told me they had to pay for the safe in their room on another line.

I've only sailed on P&O so far and would like to try another line one day just to see the difference but as many others have said there is a great choice of itineraries from Southampton. Others I have looked at quite often only go to the Norway from the Uk. I want to go to Norway again but want to go to new places first.

We don't usually go to the sailaways, we're rather closet flag wavers, but one in particular sticks in the mind.

We were docked in Tortola on Oceana, our second island after a transatlantic crossing. Backed in next to us was Artemis. I THINK it was their first island after the same crossing. It was Artemis last season in the Caribbean before leaving P&O.

No other ships were there other than Sea Princess moored way out in the bay.

As it wasn't possible to offend any other nationals, everyone let rip with the flagwaving and singing.

The ships 'talked', and a strangely quiet and deserted Artemis slowly pulled away.

Then we saw that the whole of the back of Artemis was full of banners and passengers who broke into Land of Hope and Glory. It was just like the 'Proms'. Really quite emotional . As we watched her through the dusk drawing level with Sea Princess ( who's camera flashes were going like crazy), we could hear the Artemis passengers singing, 'We're all going on a Summer Holiday'. HaHa!!! It was Brilliant!!!

We love the fly cruises and being able to take booze aboard, living up north we find it a drag and an expense getting down to Southampton. It would be wonderful for us if P & O were able to cruise out of Liverpool we could be on board within an hour of leaving home - oh how I dream

Many of the things we love about P&O have already been mentioned. We have been on cruises from Southampton and fly cruises in the Caribbean. We live near Southampton so going from there is a breeze - we can usually be on board within an hour of leaving home - fantastic compared to flying.

We love the service we have received on P&O - nothing has seemed too much trouble for the crew and they genuinely seem to want us to enjoy our cruise. We have been on other cruiselines, including Canard and while we found Queen Elizabeth a magnificent, elegant ship, the standard of service we found to be poor, especially in the Britannia restaurant - but maybe we were unlucky.

We really like the fact that there is no additional 15% service charge added as is the case with so many lines, particularly American ones and it does mount up especially if you are doing a cruise of more than two weeks. The auto-tip on P&O is, we thing, at a very reasonable level and we are happy to pay that.

So we are very happy with P&O and have our 16th cruise with them coming up in September.

Can I mention the kids club - P &O have the best ones of the lines I've sailed with (Princess, Disney and RCL being the others..) I like the service as I find the american service too intense.... The room stewards are usually great too

All the good points everyone has already mentioned especially the genuine friendliness of all the staff.

Plus

Stilton in port

Towelling animals

Headliners

Specialist talks

Saver fares!

Finally

Sailing from Southampton, I live there.

Hi Everyone, great to see so many of you with such positive things to say about P&O.

I'd forgotten about the kettle and tea / coffee making facilities and biscuits twice a day.

They also did a Champagne Fountain on Oceana on our 2 week cruise on her - it was a great night.

We also enjoyed the procession of the waiters, but I don't think that they do that anymore.

Just a reminder for anyone tempted that negative posts aren't allowed on this thread ;) ;)

We like to fly cruise in the Caribbean and love the fact that with P&O you disembark the plane in Barbados and coaches are waiting on the tarmac to take you direct to the ship where your luggage appears a little later in the day. boarding cards with seat numbers appear in cabin a few days before you go home and luggage is collected from outside your cabin during the night and next time you see it is on the carousel at your UK airport.

Also, we have always been very happy with all the crew and having tried Princess, RCI, Celebrity and Oceania we always find our selves going back to P&O

I think for me it's that they get the balance and options just right :

- three different dress codes which hopefully caters for everyone.

- family and adult only options/entertainment.

- mini cruises and "proper" cruises.

- formal dining or buffet.

I could go on.

You could say they try to be everything to everyone (and that phrase is often used negatively), but hats off to them, they are pretty good at it :)

Although we enjoyed Ventura, we have choose what's best on dates we manage to get off work, so if another cruise line has better itinery, so be it, but here's what We like about p and o

Kettle, and biscuits. Yum yum:D

Entertainment

Reasonable drinks prices and being able to take a bottle on board ( actually don't drink a lot but love a drink on balcony that I can make myself- we'll okay- get hubby to make!

And most important to us- outside promenade deck! even if we have a balcony! this deck is our favourite place! close to the sea! love to see and hear it.
