Is this line too snooty?

May one say this is a very civilised thread, with all contributions being respected by all. Thank you. This is truly refreshing! Could this be because the posters come to the forum with values, ethics and etiquette being evident on Cunard ships.

My respects to all.:D

This is why we sail Cunard!

I'm the most casual of cruisers, and didn't find Cunard at all "snooty." I'd go so as to say many (if not most) passengers I met were just like me: regular folks taking advantage of a good price to go on a (probable) once-in-a-lifetime journey.

Exactly my experience :) .

Mine also Pepper....apart from the occasions l have seen youngsters with pushchairs loitering outside the casino dressed like they have just come from a local market stall with the kids squawking at 11pm at night whilst the wives shout like banshees at the other halves to get the hell out of there and then brag that they have got this trip cheaper than an all inclusive to Benidorm.

I have never really had an any problems with snooty people on Cunard. I have done a few world cruises on Cunard and always the people have been just nice ordinary folks.

I arranged the Meet & Greets on this years QE world Cruise and over the period of 118 days I welcomed on board around 200 people. All of them were nice ordinary friendly people. Forum member Scrapnana will confirm this and we had a great time on board QE.

Snooty people there may be, but I would not be bothered by them. Just ignore and get on enjoying myself.

I have met some very rude people on another British ship that has the same initials as the Post Office:)

Cunard passengers are just nice well mannered friendly people who know how to behave and like to dress well and enjoy their lovely surroundings of the ships.

We are Cunard, afterall;)

I hope that suitable action was taken when you reported the incidents!

First of all, I have never heard anyone use such language on Cunard. I would assume that anyone who does is very uneducated indeed, and very unkind, rude and nasty.

Secondly, are you serious Capnpugwash? I know in the UK there is no such thing as freedom of speech and you can be jailed for saying the wrong word (the UK, not North Korea???), but in the US this is not the case.

Freedom of speech ends where others are harmed.

A racial motivated insult can be hardly be under the freedom of speech.

People in the USA are less keen on the idea of the government being able to tell them what they can and cannot say.

What would you have Cunard (or any line) do in the case of an alleged slur with few witnesses?

That is very funny. We often do take ourselves much too seriously in our society.

lol, well yes however one hardly wants to shell out good money and dress accordingly only to have it spoiled by someone showing up dressed like the dinner of a dog and having terrible table manners. So in that way I agree with some "snobs".

Well of course, but come on, it's still very funny.

But where do you draw the line? What if someone insults another because think they're fat or ugly or stupid? Prison for that too? That's totalitarian no? Dangerous. They don't imprison people for saying nasty things in countries such as the US, but they will certainly criticize and ostracize them for it, or sue them.

Nobody gets imprisoned for insulting others. Not in your country - not in the UK or anywhere else in Europe.

As you obviously prefer to get confirmation for your clichees and have the last word I'll leave it with that.

I did not mean to offend. I think kindness, respect and consideration toward one another are essential in life. No one should be saying hurtful or harmful things to others. Perhaps I am wrong in my perception of the UK right now; I've been living overseas. Anyway, politics...always a sensitive subject and not for cruise forums.

I am British by the way; I was not meaning to compare countries. This has been a tumultuous beginning to the century, on a global scale. Hopefully we will save the environment and create a peaceful, thriving remaining 21st century, with optimism and vitality for all! :) And long live QM2.

I agree, BlueRiband, but unfortunately the filter occasionally allows a green tuxedo to pass through even though the wearer is otherwise well behaved.

Hmmm. Will I be frowned upon for showing up in a two button, notch lapel dinner jacket, instead of a one button with peaks?

No, it's only peeks that are frowned upon (afterall, it is a family ship)! :D

Only the few wearing double-breasted dinner jackets may frown in your general direction. So far, they haven't bothered me wearing my shawl collared jacket.

Thanks for the reassurance. Guess it would be safest to stay with the bow tie, though, rather than a four-in-hand.:)

You're welcome. Yes, stay with the bow tie; save the four-in-hands for informal nights.

This will make you smile.

When on a b2b out of SJ, there was a knock on our door at about 18.00

On opening there stood about 7/8 people, then one said the stateroom attendant said you were English, so we ask if you could knot 4 ties for the men in the party, as this formal night would be the first time the men had worn a tie.

I said okay, and was handed 4 identical pieces of long rectangular blue material, nothing resembling a tie, as if cut by scissors from the same piece.

Tied 4 Half Windsors and handed back. Later we saw the men in the party wearing the "ties" with a wing collar.
