Windy56 Posted July 10, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 10, 2014 We have booked this cabin and were wondering if smoking was allowed on the balcony. We cruised on the Breeze and had a spa cabin last February and smoking wasn't allowed. We just assumed the same rule would apply to the NCL Haven spa cabins. Thanks in advance for any clarification on this subject.

Windy56 Posted July 11, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted July 11, 2014 Thank you for your responses. We are excited about trying the Haven cabin. We are doing a back to back and if it's as good as everyone says it is, ship security might have to drag me off by the fourteenth day!

Windy56 Posted July 12, 2014 Author #7 Share Posted July 12, 2014 Actually I was expecting that smoking wasn't allowed, at least on the spa class balconies, which is one of the reasons we booked it. Oh well.
Rare TracieABD Posted July 12, 2014 #8 Share Posted July 12, 2014 It would make sense to not allow smoking on the spa class balconies. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
rvsullivan Posted July 12, 2014 #9 Share Posted July 12, 2014 It would make sense to not allow smoking on the spa class balconies. Sent from my iPhone using Forums Why is that? I don't see any relationship between smoking and the spa balconies. They are no different than any other balcony on the ship?
Rare graphicguy Posted July 12, 2014 #10 Share Posted July 12, 2014 (edited) Why is that? I don't see any relationship between smoking and the spa balconies. They are no different than any other balcony on the ship? Yeah, they are different. The Spa balconies are booked with the understanding you're seeking an experience with a focus on wellness (thus the inclusion of the thermal loungers, spa steam rooms, salt room, etc). I'm not a smoker basher. I don't smoke, but am not the zealot I've seen others become regarding smokers/e-cig users. I like to think of myself as a tolerant person.....as long as no one is blowing smoke in my face, we're all good. However, the Haven Spa Balconies are supposed to be a part of the ship that is about wellness. One thing smoking isn't is a habit that has anything to do with wellness. Just because it's allowed doesn't mean you should. May I suggest another area in the Haven that you can smoke on the balcony? meglet Posted July 12, 2014 #11 Share Posted July 12, 2014 Interesting take. For me, the word "spa" has the connotation of pampering myself, doing whatever is going to make me feel good. The Haven area on NCL brings to my mind peace, quiet, sanctuary, yet I've seen reports that many families book this area, and on many sailings I wouldn't find peace and quiet. I guess just because something has a name, the reality might be quite different.

cruise4kicks Posted July 12, 2014 #17 Share Posted July 12, 2014 Oh, and for those who believe that the moniker "spa balcony" connotes a special meaning, other than the spa pass being included... There is another cruise line which features a spa class of cabins, to include a healthy food restaurant in addition to the spa access. You might want to check it out. ;)
Rare graphicguy Posted July 12, 2014 #18 Share Posted July 12, 2014 Like most, I'm not out to condemn anyone's habits. I have enough of my own that probably irk people that I won't begin to criticize. Balcony smoking? It's outside and dissipates quickly. Spa balcony? I'm wanting to make an effort to at least take care of my body by booking in the Spa, as it indicates you can do. Can't there be other suites that would lend itself better to balcony smoking? I'll give you all your other balconies, as I'm willing to compromise, if I can keep the spa balconies out of the smoking debate.
foghorn Posted July 13, 2014 #19 Share Posted July 13, 2014 I smoke and as disgusting as that is I still enjoy smoking. I book a balcony so I can smoke. I am not on my balcony all day and night. I don't usually go to the shows so if I am not in the casino making my deposit, I like to sit on the balcony and have a smoke. I put up with people with their overuse of perfume, their one two many drinks, people and kids being loud in the hallways slamming doors and people who get sea sick and vomit in the hallways. If the cruise company wants to make one side smoking or the aft smoking only I am fine with that.
goldmom Posted July 13, 2014 #20 Share Posted July 13, 2014 Actually I think the OP had a legitimate question. I believe that when smoking was still allowed in the cabins, that the Spa Suites were listed as non-smoking cabins. So, it would make sense to think that the Spa cabin balconies could be non-smoking. This might actually be a good compromise on the larger ships. To have this one type on cabin class be non-smoking and to still allow smoking on the other cabin balconies.
