Extortionate Shore Excursion Prices

 Share

Recommended Posts

Having just checked online for the forthcoming Aurora South America cruise, on average excursions prices are 15-25% more expensive than on previous world cruises. e.g. Alcatraz and Sausalito was £50 now £62, Pago Pago Island Delights was £30 now £39. Auckland Devonport & North Shore Panarama was £35 now £45.

These are incredible price hikes in the current economic climate. Passengers only get to know the prices of tours after they have booked.

Other cruise lines we've been on show the tours and prices on their websites allowing comparisons to be made before deciding which cruise to take.

P&O only show prices after a booking has been made. Even then the prices shown are for pre-paymant with the prices on board sometimes being higher.

Have you checked how much the prices of doing the tours independently has gone up? I guess not all the price hike is down to P&O. Whatever their cost I have found the costs of tours with other lines are much much higher than with P&O. Cruising with Oceania Cruises forced us to look at private tours and we haven't looked back since.

The prices on P&O may only be seen after you have booked the cruise and yes they might not always increase when you get onboard but prices of excursions are good compared to the extortionate prices charged by Princess cruises for their excursions.

An example would be nice!

You don't call yourself that user name and then sing the praises of P&O. Why book the Aurora if Princess is best? Strange.

I don't think it's strange, perhaps like me PRINCESSTHEBEST prefers to do roundtrips from Southampton. I don't believe Princess do World cruises which go from and return to Southampton. I also think the excursions have gone up in price quite a bit since we did the World cruise in 2013.

Friend of mine just returned on a cruise on the Ruby Princess after looking at the various trips P & O were anything from £7 to £20 cheaper (Don't tell them thou)

I did an exercise a couple of years ago with s friend who had been on a Princess cruise which hit that same ports as one of ours that year and the difference was between 5 and 20% higher on Princess.

I tend not to look at trip prices now as we tend not to use them at all.

I wouldn't say the excursions were highly priced and have booked a couple for our October cruise. However, I would have definitely booked more had they been cheaper.

Swings and roundabouts for P&O.
