Cheers price adjustment

Thank you to the OP for posting this. I only read some of the threads last night and know initially there was some question whether or not it was factual, cause lets face it, how often do prices drop onboard as apposed to increase. I did speak to my PVP today and she confirmed the price adjustments were true, which I'm shocked about.

We are sailing on the Breeze this Sunday and sailed on her back in July on an 8 day trip and I so wish we had utilized the program back then as we would have saved $300.00 on that trip. So the wife and I will give it a shot this time around. Happy cruising everyone and again thank you to the OP for sharing the info.

Just recieved word that beginning 8/08/14 the beveragepackages have a new pricing structure, this is from my PVP....

3 day cruises $55/day

4 day cruises $45. "

5 day cruises $42.50 "

7 day cruises $37.50 "

Plus 15% gratuity.

Sounds like great news!!!

The goccl website has been updated with the new prices for Cheers. It shows that Cheers will be sold as a package for one price instead of showing per day pricing. The price depends on the length of the cruise, but the price for individual lengths isn't listed. It only shows a range. It also notes that cruises over 8 days will be priced by voyage.

is the 15% gratiuty on the value of the package or the value of the total drinks consumed .. There is a big difference. Like the package , better value just trying to figure out if there is a twist .. Why would you lower the price of a package? Call me crazy .....

7 day package 37.50 = 262.50 plus 15% gratituity 39.38 = 301.88

now 15 drinks average value for rounding sake 10.00 = 150.00 x 15% = 22.50 a day x 7 = 157.50 gratiuty plus 262.50 = 420.00 total

so is the gratiuty of the package or value of the total number of drinks consumed?

The gratuity is on the package.

My theory: The reason for lowering the price is to maximize revenue. The tiered pricing based upon cruise length tell us that the program was selling well on the shorter cruises and probably had a higher utilization rate of drinks per day. Hence, they will increase the price to maximize revenue against higher costs (serving more drinks).

On longer cruises, the program most likely wasn't selling as well and you would guess had a lower utilization rate of drinks per day. Buy lowering the price, they are trying to attract more people to purchase it, and they can afford to lower it because of the lower costs (less drinks being served).

For people like me who were planning to purchase it anyway, it makes a good deal became a great deal!!

I called funshops to cancel my wine order because I plan to buy the cheese program and she told me:

Carnival employees do not get discounts on drink :o

She was not even aware that buying on the second day was even an option when she went on her cruise in April so she did not know if it is still an option. I didn't press her to find out I suppose I can wait till Tuesday. I can't see why it wouldn't be as it's not fair to charge you for a full day when you're not on the sip a full day on embarkation day.

If cruising out of TX, due to laws, you can only but on day 2 so $37.50 for 6 = 225 plus 15% is 258.75 pp

This is definitely a much better deal. I usually take cruises 10+ days and I'm not a daily drinker. But definitely worth it on a 10 or 11 day, and if I didn't feel like drinking on certain days, I would buy drinks for friends to at least get my money's worth. If one is doing a B2B, I can think of many options, but not going to repeat here...LOL

You are welcome. I couldn't believe I was the first to know/post about anything on here, as knowledgeable as all the CC'ers are here. Happy to share some great news, and we will definitely be purchasing this on our Breeze cruise in June. (Hope the price stays the same)

As far as the reason, I am certain it is supply and demand. I can only imagine that it was not selling like CCL wanted it too, based in part on the high prices and the limit on drinks. As far as I know, CCL is the only one who limits the package. I am certain RCL wishes they had limited me last Thanksgiving, but they probably still made a little money!!

Happy Cruising to everyone. Hopefully someone who cruises after this weekend will report back to us about how it went, and if there seemed to be more people purchasing, ect....:D:D

Now, the next step would be to figure out an offer per cabin with possibly lower number of drinks you can get. Or, let a cabin purchase the Cheers with a total of 15 drinks per cabin. That would be nice. Also, let you purchase only for sea days! The next cruise we are looking at is a 7 day and has 4 port days. So, there are only 2 sea days. Three of the four port days are full days. That would be a waste for us either way for that cruise.

I think that if they work on making different package options, then they will find they will sell more packages.

I'm curious if this will be like the old pricing wherein you could purchase on the 1st or 2nd day. And if you purchase on the 2nd day will you be charged for one day less? Of course, time will tell so those of you cruising soon, please keep us informed.

While I do not know any official/correct answer to your question . . .

I do personally think if would be savvy (and totally within their rights) for CCL to say that if you didn't fall into the clearly stated 'Texas Caveat', which arranges for purchase on second day, then you could purchase on Day 1 or Day 2, but . . .

If you were on Day 2 of a 7-day sailing, then you'd be choosing less days, and they'd charge you based on the 6-day sailing price (a bit higher per day). The defined program description only mentions a Day 2 option for those involved in the Texas thing, but we've all read that this has been offered way beyond that.

Putting that into play would probably negate many/most of those desiring to defer to an option of purchasing for less days.

Again, just a thought.

Overall, I think the new pricing structure is marketing genious, and will be strongly observed by the competition. It does make total sense, and has the potential to definitely generate more onboard revenue for CCL.

My cruise is 8 days, and I think that's very common for carnival as all the math I've seen involving cheers starts with people buying day 2 on an 8 day cruise...

Sure wish we could purchase it ahead of time, before they change their minds again :D

I am there with you on this.

I am more than willing to pay now for that sticker to be on my card when i check in so i can nicely grab my firts DOD as soon as a i board. :D

I am even willing to cancel the bottles i have through Bonvoyage which i spread out between 3 different rooms.

Y'know, as soon as I posted that, I thought, as much as I wish it was available to purchase now, if it had been available before the price adjustment and I'd paid $200 more ('cause I'd have bought it at the same time I paid off our cruise), I'd be pretty unhappy right now.

Not really sure why they don't allow you to purchase ahead of time, though. It's just more money in Carnival's pocket before you board. Ah well, I'm very happy about this development, either way!

I hope we can get confirmation that sailings from Texas does save you 1 day.

From goccl

CHEERS! package prices range from $165.00 to $300.00 per person/per voyage

I would hate having to pay for the 7 day price and not be able to use the program on embarkation day because of a Texas law.

I guess I'm going to have to cancel the $75 bottle of Skyy that I purchased for my upcoming cruise on the 22nd...I can't wait to drink my wife's 8 or 9 daily unused Cheers drinks!

Il looked yesterday to price up bottomless bubbles for my dd, and I think the price went down - at least I remember it being more when I checked a while ago - I my be wrong though...

From carnivals FAQ

Child Rate Per Day $4.50 USD (17 years of age and younger)

Adult Rate Per Day $6.00 USD (18 years of age and older)

I seem to remember it came to more than $35 for my dd last time I checked.

You live there, call your representatives and tell them that blue laws are so last century! ;)

I do agree with your line of reasoning, but I can also see where they may want to use a slightly higher daily rate as embarkation day is a partial day for any departure port (though I suspect it may also be a higher utilization per hour day potentially offsetting the lower cost).

I agree the Blue laws are ridiculous, however, on Royal out of Galveston you can get the similar unlimited plan on the first day. I think Carnival just does not want as much tax on the drinking, as they have to pay Texas tax on everything they serve while in Texas waters.

Looks like the same price to me. Don't forget you have to add the 15% gratuity.

Just got off phone with Carnival rep. She confirmed the new rate for a 7 day cruise is $37.50 per day plus 15% gratuity. She said you must purchase the first day and you can no longer purchase the second day. Asked her about tax if purchased in port before getting into international waters. She could not answer

There has not been sales tax on the package in the past. Just on the drink price it self.

So if you buy a $8 drink in Fl Port it Free for cheers and $.56 tax on you bill.

I hope that makes since.

Thanks for the info, j&t, I was specifically wondering if we had to purchase it on the first day. For the first time every, we won't be able to get to the ship right when boarding starts, so it's kind of a bummer. Oh well, I still think we might do it for our upcoming 3-night trip to Ensenada. It will save us some $$ too. I won't bring the two bottles of wine we carry on board, so that saves $20 in corkage. I'll skip the winery tour that we were going to do in Ensenada, as we have already done it once before. Since they raised the pirce for that excursion, it's going to save $100 for the two of us. Hubby always orders a bottle of sparkling water each night at dinner, so we'll save 25% on that. I can retire the rum runners, and not worry about being called to the naughty room, that calls for a drink right there!

Even at the highest daily rate, I don't think it's going to be hard to justify the cost: 1-2 mimosa's in the morning, a couple of 'boat drinks' by the pool, a pre-dinner cocktail at the bar, a couple of glasses of wine with dinner, maybe a spiked coffee for dessert, and a couple of drinks during the show or at the casino. The rest of the time will be spent in the gym working off all the extra calories!
