Hi

Nice to see that Lady Luck has favoured you , even if not quite what you had hoped for !

My mum always used to refer to slot machines as "one armed bandits " and there is an element of truth in that.

Having never been on the Ruby it is nice to read your updates - where is Sabatini's and Crown grill located and have you tried either out yet?

Hi All

Cobh turned out to be a great stop weather got better as day went on sun came out to play, town had a fair on so music and stalls good crowds, railway had extra trains on because of ship being in port. Good old fashioned sail away brass bans quay side hundreds and hundreds if folks waving commodore sounded the ships horn which got a cheer from the crowds then passing down another three blasts and a reply from a yacht of a toot which brought laughter from all.

Today Dublin and another great days weather storm running just in front of us but we keep missing all the rain.

Tried Trident Grill not good bun so dry when l bite into it fell apart and French fries smaller than width of fork hope l just got timings wrong and just got left over, what l did see was a passenger requesting a burger but being told that it was not ready and saying he would take it the way it was chef said no he would not serve food not ready to eat passenger not happy but l think chef was right no doubt if the guy became I'll he would sue for eating uncooked meat.

Room steward not the best has never introduced himself did not explain muster does not say much get more chat from other stewards in hall way does enough of his job but we keep cabin tidy anyway but if small item left lying still there when we return. Overall happy crew a number of passengers have spoken to me to say other cruise lines crew are not nearly as nice.

Spotted Commodore and senior officers out and about which is nice to see.

No issues with onboard crime not aware of there ever being any just not heard it referred to in the past announcements.

Food overall is OK dinning room is nothing special but then again may be it should not be food range is good served quick enough is hot but not five star after all this is not a five star cruise line

Booked Crown grill so expect better there

IC is as amazing as ever

Vines quite but excellent service tapas selection best l have come across time to go ashore

Chat more latter

Yours Shogun

Steve,

Enjoyed getting to know you and Donna on the Med voyage two summers past and walking about Mykonos with y'all. We board the Ruby on the 27th, so we are two ships passing in the night. Question. What was the adult beverage contraband enforcement like in Southampton?

Have a great rest of the voyage and may the weather gods smile on you with good fortune.

Hi All

Been onboard a few days now and can say the Ruby is as good as any ship in the fleet, ship is well maintained only seen a couple of toilets closed off for maintenance. Crew are happy, like when they recall your name your drink or ask about a trip you did yesterday or what you thought of last nights movie that means they not only listened to what you were talking about but made a mental note to ask the following day.

Belfast today free shuttle to down town weather good.

Last night went to Nuts pizza cookies and popcorn all served had lots of little blankets needed six did need one as a scarf to stop ears freezing.

Chatted to someone who advised that the chance of Princess allowing a second season of The Cruise Ship to be filmed is highly unlikely unless major changes made also went on to say chance of seeing it onboard and in USA now a lot less due to customer feed back, made a few other comments which were very interesting most have already been made here on cc already.

Casino closed for two days no bingo either.

As in UK waters

Casino has all new machines to us appears to be a lot of space if l was Princess l would put a line of single cabins down on side and reduce casino foot age.

Came across CD staff holding carpet bowels while walking to back of ship so asked if would make up numbers never tried it so said yes and won in fact blew away all competition scoring 7 from a possible 8 my reward a Princess pen.

Now those who know me l like to chat to my fellow passengers so some feed back

Better than Cunard staff the most friendly ship very odd layout folks get stuck or lost getting to asft dinning room. You have to pay for coffee you have to pay for laundry you have to pay for shuttle bus get an idea of theme here, TAs not telling folks what is not included a lot of Brits expecting all inclusive.

So just now this cruise is providing me with the vacation l want good service friendly crew and a relaxed chilled out experience,

Yours Shogun

Hi Shogun

Enjoying your "live from" as we were on the Ruby back in June when we went to the North Cape & Fjords. We loved the ship & the crew were so friendly. Can you say hello to Ana & Boyan in Michaelangelo (waiters) from Trish & Dave for us please?? They were great.

Finding your posts of interest as possibly doing this itinerary next year.

Enjoy the rest of the cruise.

Trish

Hi Shogun,

Met you on the Royal inaugural cruise from Southampton. Hope all is well. I have a favor if possible..I will be on the Sept 22nd cruise on the Ruby (hope you are staying on) and I like to bring little gifts to the cruise staff I know. If you could find out their names for me, I would appreciate it. I know the cruise director, but not the rest of the staff.

Thanks a bunch and enjoy your cruise and hope to see you!

Does anyone know where we are docking in new york? I was waiting to book hotel room until i found out, but time is getting close to our cruise across the pond.

Hi All,

Hopefully in the very early hours of tomorrow morning a car will arrive out side my home, and the start of another adventure will commence,as we head to airport and fly into Southampton a few hours before sailing, many will know we have taken a year off cruising to be with our new puppy, who is growing up fast, she along with Shogun have been collected by the pet sitter so are already on their holidays. I think there was a tear in DWs eye as she said good bye to puppy for the first time, or may relief as she is a very demanding dog requiring hugs constantly.

So we are joining our old friend the Ruby Princess out of Southampton heading back home, now some will ask why take a cruise back to your own home, we will be just 20 miles from home, or to ports you have visited before, well firstly a cruise is a cruise its time away from work which has been stressful recently court cases and all that.

http://50essentialexperiences.com/2010/10/18/steve-deas/

But a cruise is like any holiday its what you put into it that ensures you are rewarded with a holiday you can recall many years from now.

One place I plan on visiting is Pegasus Bridge Normandy, those who can recall the movie The Longest Day will know what I am talking about.

http://www.memorial-pegasus.org/mmp/musee_debarquement/index.php?lang=uk

So I will try and post most days from the ship, weather may be interesting as a low is moving south taking gale force winds from the artic so temperatures are going to fall sharply.

What will make a nice start to this holiday is a friend we have not seen for some time will board the Ruby and spent a little time with us before the ship sails,

As before any questions or information folks want please ask away and will try and find the answers for you.

Yours Shogun

Assuming that you are on the 8th Sept Transatlantic crossing on the Ruby Princess from Southampton, it will be at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal.

Glad you had a great time. Really looking forward to going again.

Will make the decision on formal as it gets closer and I can find out how the Anytime dining is.

Next week it is Vision, then Sept Vision and 2 Majesty's in Oct, so lots of cruising before Dec.

Am I the only one who is afraid to find out what a "carpet bowel" is and why the CD staff is carrying them around the ship and having people compete for pens for them? :) :) :)

Very much enjoying your "Live from..." thread, Shogun. Thank you again for taking the time out from your vacation to share with us.
