We always hear of break-downs,sickness,rogue waves, sinkings etc. aboard these magnificent vessels. By no means am i trying to start a negative topic, i just thought it would be interesting to hear about some of the "not so fortunate experiences" that have occured while cruising.

First morning on 17 night cruise, after oversleeping and rushing to 10 am Cruise Critic gathering, came back to room, leaned just a little to look for something and blew my back out. Fortunately I was able to buy a Thalassotherapy pool pass, went there twice a day for relief. Still walked hunched over for a week, but it helped with the pain.

The scariest was many years ago when we cruised into a Hurricane (Bob) on the Nordic Prince. We got out of that storm (with 40 foot seas) right before dinner and we were shocked to discover that nearly all the ship's wine supply and much of the booze had been destroyed during the storm. This was a horror worse then the huge seas and 90 knot winds!

We were on the Explorer of the Seas 9 day itinerary from Bayonne in 2010 and we encountered an at sea storm EARLY in the morning. The captain made an announcement around 4am to say that they "temporarily lost control of the ship". In the morning, glasses were broken, some people had minor injuries and I heard stories that one drunk gentleman in the hot tub lost his car keys to the ocean. :(

Wow, how drunk do you have to be to take your car keys into a hot tub with you while on a cruise? At least he likely wasn't bothered by the ship listing...

None scary to me but would be to some

List all power numerous times on the ship so just like a cork in the ocean no emergency lighting or anything

Had a cruise through a cyclone which was nasty but fun to me

Had a stalker once that scared me many years ago

Lost my sea pass while in Russia

That's about in. Not a lot

On our first cruise which was also our honeymoon, I was cornered in the ladies bathroom by a very unfriendly group of women who proceeded to verbally abuse me. Their reason ...because I'm in a mixed race relationship. This was all triggered by us playing bingo in a moment of sheer boredom where there was nothing else to do, and we won a substantial amount of money. They felt it wasn't right that "on British cruise ship a foreigner had won their money".

Funnily enough my husband is British with the plummiest queens english accent you'll ever hear, me however I'm Polish not British. It never entered their stupid minds that the white half of the couple was the foreigner

This scared me: A woman fell on a slippery deck which knocked her out and her face was badly bleeding. Two passengers rushed over immediately -- one was a dentist, the other an ER nurse. The medical unit from the ship was there in about 4 minutes (according to some guy who was timing it) but they were long 4 minutes when you're worried about someone.

Oh, the humanity!;)

I should seriously find some wood to knock on, as I laugh at your post, though. I'm getting ready to sail to Bermuda, at the height of hurricane season. :D

We were sailing off the coast North coast of Africa when mistral winds started blowing. It was just after late dinner seating ended and Captain came on the speaker telling everyone to immediately find a place to sit and remain seated until he told us we could move. DH was so delighted we and our friends had taken four seats just a few minutes earlier in Casino Bar. :) How lucky was he our drinks had just been brought to us! The ship really rocked around for probably a few hours when it started to let up.

When permitted, we went to our cabin and DH tried to open the verandah door to see what it was like on the open deck. When he started to lean his shoulder into the door to strain to push it open, I 'suggested' he would be wise to figure out if he had to shoulder the door to get it open, it likely was a poor idea to do that. :D He got the point!!

I make light of it now but it really was a little unnerving, a bit frightening.

Very high seas and banging doors and drawers all night. I made the mistake of looking out our porthole and was quite alarmed at the angle of list!

Problem is when that happens between Ushuaia and Antarctica and knowing that you have to cross the Drake again.

Going down the slide for the first time terrified. Got to the bottom and got help from my daughter to stand (I am partly disabled and have trouble getting up) to have the next person in line come down and nail me in the chest. The 2 spotters were more interested in the very tiny bikini a very good looking young lady was wearing than doing their job.

Not scary to us since we didn't see the waves but the cover for our porthole was placed over it for two days because the choppy waves were pounding against it.

Timing it instead of assisting the woman? Must have been a lawyer.

If the victim was already being attended too by professionals nothing wrong with that. Questions like "how long was she out?" need to be answered.

Ahhhh. Well, that tale about Hurricane Bob is true and it happened in August 1991 on a cruise from NYC to Bermuda! So keep that in mind :)
