How to Convince People Carnival isn't a "Drunk Fest"

Inside Edition did a documentary on Booze Cruise. Have your friend google Inside Edition on that, also on YouTube but it's not CCL they're talking about.

Time of the year, duration of cruise matters for the lines.

Not just inside edition. My brother in law won't cruise Carnival due to a peice on 20/20. When I ried to tell him that although the peice said drunken fights on Carival ships, if you look at the security officers in the videos, they were from RCCL. In typical hater mode he responded you are only pointing that out cause you love Carnival.

Funny to see this as I just read a review on the RCI boards about a drunken passenger removed from the casino and detained in his stateroom, under guard.

I noticed no one out of control during our last CCL cruise.

If anyone makes critical remarks about my choice of cruise line or vacation at sea, I simply change the subject. ;)

Sounds like they already made up their mind. I wouldn't waste my time trying to convince them.

I'd just tell them what ship and date your sailing and that they're more than welcome to join you.

Good advice...that is just what i would do...

Sorry to say, but that attitude from your friends tells me alot about them. I'd rather go cruise by myself than deal with people that take a stand when they don't know what they're talking about.

Agree. They'll spend the entire cruise telling you how much better RCL is.

This may backfire on you, but if you're sure that they'll love cruising on Carnival and that it won't be a drunk fest, you can do what I did with my 1st time cruiser brother in law last year; I told him that if he didn't enjoy the cruise, I would fully reimburse him out of my pocket.

We took a family cruise to Alaska aboard Holland America's Westerdam and, within minutes of boarding, he started complaining. I recall him staring at the long buffet line and saying "This is exactly why I didn't want to come. My worst nightmares are coming true" But by day 2, he had stopped complaining, and by day 3 going into Juneau, he was fully enjoying the cruise. At the end, he had a great time.

While he is not rushing to book his next cruise, the experience did change his impression about cruising. He did say that, while the cruise was enjoyable, it's not his kind of vacation (in all fairness when they vacation, they like to stay at small boutique hotels, visit places void of crowds, and steer clear of mass market touristy activities). But at least I didn't have to reimburse him for the cruise! :D

I've never cruised Carnival but my mother in law does. She is very Christian and conservative, doesn't drink at all.... And she took her family and loved it! So that tells me something...

On the other hand last time I sailed Royal a passenger was telling me he sailed Carnival once and they had to drain the pool from someone throwing up in it. He said it was a drunken party. Then years later he tried again at the encouragement of friends and he said he did not even bother finishing the cruise, he stayed at Port and got a plane back to get them off the ship at disembarkment.

I don't think my mother in law would ever sail Carnival if her experience was like that, so it really is all in what cruise you happen to get I think... I would be willing to try Carnival, personally. It's silly to not try it to see for yourself.

Ok, try telling that to all who are buying the Cheers alcohol package.:D:D

If they come to me seeking and advice on how they should govern their own adult behavior, I will.

Of course I will then forward the results on to you for your ultimate final judgement and approval.

BTW: Did you get the bacon / pizza / rich dessert / buffet summary from last month? Still awaiting your OK.

I've been wanted to cruise with my friends for a while, and we never really pursued it until now. They asked what ship I was going on in November, and I said "Carnival --" and I couldn't even say Glory before they said no. They think it's a drunk Fest. Well, to start, it's a 7 day cruise, not a short one. Secondly, it's eastern Caribbean, and I've read that more people find the eastern Caribbean cruises more mellow, rather than the western ones, idk.

What should I say to convince them that the Glory is a great ship and it's not a drunk Fest? Or is it better for me to keep them off the Glory and onto a different ship. They've cruised Royal before.

Thanks anyone who can help me.

I encountered that attitude both times sailing Royal. The attitudes of many on board is the main reason we will likely not cruise with royal again.

Do us a favour and tell your friends to stick to Royal. :D

That's just it. If you're LOOKING for things to complain about, you will certainly find it. I did that in the first 15 minutes of my RCCL cruise, and then asked myself, what am I doing?

And when I let go, I ended up having a great time. If I were on that ship because of someone else's choice, I may never had let it go so quickly, at all, and possibly made everyone's life miserable.

So you really have to know who you're going away with. Vacationing with people is a LOT different than visiting with them.

But truth be told there is more drinking being done on a carnival ship then most other lines.

And it's unsubstantiated, quantitative "truth be told" statements like this that put the OP in the unfortunate position that even his best friends won't vacation with him on what would probably would have been a nice time together on the Glory.

When you price your cruise they way carnival does of course your going to get a different class of people. Not to say that all of carnivals cruisers have no class because that is far from the truth.

But truth be told there is more drinking being done on a carnival ship then most other lines.

The truer statement is that there is more drinking BY SOME on ALL lines. Those that drink will drink, and novices that drink will overdo it. And walk ANY SHIP ANY LINE late at night, and you will find the falling down drunk.

I've seen drunk people both on Carnival and Princess. If I had friends that didn't want to cruise on Carnival because of drunk people, they should stay at home and vacation at home. We've been to concerts, festivals, fairs where people were ripped. We stay out of their way and enjoy ourselves. As others have said here, go alone or with people that don't care about drunks, smokers, etc.

The video posted here a couple of months ago where security could not contain one drunken girl spoke volumes to me. How she was able to get the guy trying to escort her away disturbs me.

Really, one event speaks volumes to you about an entire cruise line?

Did the whole Treyvon Martin incident also speak volumes to you about neighborhood watch groups?

I'd enjoy seeing said video as I'm curious as to how some drunk girl "gets the guy"?

Pine if that's the video you are talking about you're slipping. Millions cruise Carnival every year and that one video speaks volumes to you?

I wouldn't try to convince them to sail on Carnival either. If any little nitpicky thing goes wrong or isn't to their liking you are going to be blamed. Cruise with them on RCCL or go with others or solo on Carnival.

I have always sailed with others, but in 2012, I tried a solo sail with Carnival on the Valor!. It was one of the best vacations I have ever had. I am a single widow in her 60's, and I made many friends. I had a wonderful time doing what "I" wanted to do....It was great.

I am planning another solo in 2015!!!

If you run across them, could you please help them to their cabin? They're probably friends of mine. TIA. :)
