First time cruising but curious about my illness

Recommended Posts

I am a chronic asthmatic I'm going on my first cruise of my honey moon next week I have a nebulizer machine etc.. I was wondering if anyone has ever traveled on a cruise ship with asthma and their experience or if they also brought there nebulizer I figure I wouldn't have many issues because of the fresh air but curious on others experiences?

Of COURSE you bring ALL the mediations you MIGHT need! You don't want to have an issue, and not have what you need! Lots of folks cruise with asthma! Just be prepared! The ship's infirmary is ok, in a pinch, but bring what you know works for you!

We have traveled with a nebulizer for years just in case. We only needed it on one cruise. You know your triggers, if smoke is one of them, stay away from the casino and the outdoor smoking side of the ship. Just make sure you have any meds you might need with you. There is a doctor on the ship if you do have a problem. Not cheap, but worth it if you are having breathing issues.

Have a wonderful cruise.

I too am a severe asthmatic. I enjoy cruising because of the safety of having medical available to me 24 hours a day. I wouldn't stay on many of the islands that I enjoy visiting because of my issues. I do take extra meds, including prednisone and antibioitcs just in case. I started one cruise already on antibiotics, nebs and steroids, both inhaled and oral. It was a low key cruise as I felt pretty cruddy, but since it was a Christmas trip for DH, myself and out kids and kids in law, I went anyway. (No, I could not have infected anyone else because I had been on antibiotics for 5 days before the trip)

Avoid your triggers and enjoy the fun!

There is no fresh air inside the ship. Always carry a rescue inhaler with you.

With me it could be dust in air vents.......smoke.......perfume......fumes from your ship or others when docked...etc.

Take everything you may need and then some.

From a fellow sufferer:(

Fresh air is determined by your cabin and what you do as in fact you are in a huge air con environment

Nebulous we should be ok but oxygen would have to come through ship with special permissions due fire hazard if your that bad

Plus bring a letter for the drugs and plenty and make sure your travel insurance covers you

There is no additional letter needed for prescription medications.
