WISH US LUCK! Jumping ship over to Princess

Recommended Posts

Enjoy! We love Princess! Suits us so much better than the "fun" cruiseline that we are platinum on. We also "dove" in and tried NCL and we are so glad we did! My favorite cruise on Princess was our Alaska and we did the cruise/land package. Princess lodges are amazing and we did several fantastic land excursions, like taking a plane ride over Mt McKinley and landing on a snow-covered glacier! I did snow angels on a GLACIER! My favorite on NCL was Bermuda on Breakaway. We love to cruise and see new places, meet new people, and relax! Heck, when hubby decides to retire, we may sell our house and cruise the WORLD!

We have been on the Diamond (Alaska) and Emerald (Caribbean) and had a nice time. However, the entertainment was very disappointing. Also be aware of their buffet (like RC Windjammer)...you have to make sure you enter on the correct side or you will be escorted out and shown the correct entrance.

I agree that it's nice to see what other lines offer. We've sailed Carnival, Holland America, Princess, Celebrity and RCCL. We will stick with RCCL and Celebrity.

Have fun!

Looking forward to your comparison! Very loyal to royal here but with so many new changes that aren't appealing to us...I am definitely considering trying another line.

It would be nice to cruise together some day, either RC or another line.

With that said, we are being brave and branching our just to Princess, not ready to fly further from the nest!

Enjoy! Princess puts out a good product. Unfortunately, the west coast cruises don't compare with the Caribbean imo.

No the west coast doesn't offer much variety.....but it could if RC is willing to mix it up between a PNW and coastal cruises, they'd have a a lot of happy cruisers and a good b2b option. :)

Our biggest thing is we just like being on the ship....and quick flight, or can be easily driven to the port vs FL is an all day adventure for us....never any non stop flights, not even direct, everything is a change of planes with lay overs. Lay overs are ok, it gives me a change to really move about, something I need to do with my restless legs and now fighting spinal stenosis.

With that said, if given the chance for a west coast cruise....we're on it!!

We too have done many royal cruises, but got to try the Crown 2 years ago for a business meeting. We loved it. The International Café was wonderful. We loved the crew. The food, to us, was as good as Royal. We enjoyed movies under the stars while we munched on fresh popcorn. The pizza was very yummy!

We had a balcony stateroom and found it very comfortable. I would not hesitate to cruise Princess again.

Have a great time. :D

I find Princess Cruises to be more food-centric than RCCL. Dinner, it seems, is the BIG EVENT of the day. Breakfast and Lunch in the MDR are also wonderful, but the dinner is what is really special.

Don't make the mistake of missing out on formal nights. They serve the best food of the entire cruise in the MDR on those 2 nights. You don't have to go overboard and buy an evening gown, just bring a satiny or sparkly top to wear with black pants or a black skirt or just wear a black dress with some sparkly earrings and your husband wears a dark suit, white shirt and tie. Change the color your accessories for the second formal night which is less formal than the first. Anyway, it is something special about Princess that they have these two formal nights and most everyone still adheres to it, which is kind of a throwback, but it's fun. Some women go totally overboard in their attire. The people watching is GREAT on these nights! I think of it being kind of like being on Downton Abbey.

We enjoy both lines. A d1 or d2 balcony on RCL is equivalent to a mini-suite on Princess. I like the anytme set dining rooms and the MUTS (movies under the stars) on Princess. We like the Emerald and Ruby on Princess and the Radiance class on RCL. The lines a very comparable. You will enjoy!

Have a wonderful cruise. Enjoy, can't wait to see your opinion. We love RC and have sailed princess 2x now, we do not find the ships as nice especially the MDR and Atrium area.

After our last try we are in no hurry to return to Princess. Having the cabin ready is nice, other than that, RC is a pure joy when compared.

Good luck--We enjoyed the Crown Princess. If you like Fettucine Alfredo, be sure to try the Princess version. It's one of the best I've had on land or sea.

They also do a really wonderful afternoon tea on sea days, because who doesn't need a few more goodies in the mid afternoon? We still prefer RC overall, but if the itinerary and price were right would take Princess again in a heartbeat. They have a lot to enjoy, and there are a few things they do even better than RC.

We've been on Princess once and Royal Caribbean about 10 times. We seem to favor Royal Caribbean as far as night life goes. Princess we found to be a beautiful ship, good service, good food but our only complaint was at night time it was lacking. We are in our 50's and the people seemed to be older than us and would retire to their cabins early. We were wandering around the ship after the shows looking for somewhere lively just to drink and dance and there was none of that. It was so quiet, not what we are used to a on a cruise.

But then again, we are going on another Princess cruise to Alaska in June. We seemed to like the itinerary and got a good price and know they are beautiful ships but we know already what to expect as far as nightlife. But then again, this time we're on it to see Alaska so its a different type of a cruise!

As you can see in my signature, we are Loyal to Royal D+ cruisers.

Saturday (Oct 11) we will jump ship over to Princess sailing on the Crown Princess out of LA for a 7 day Pacific Coastal cruise.

I'm looking forward to your review! We just booked the Crown Princess for our family over spring break. I have not cruised Princess before but have cruised Carnival and NCL in addition to many on RCCL. Have a great time!

I just completed my first cruise on Princess. It was 10 days on the Star and I really enjoyed it. I did not care for thier any time dining as it was almost impossible to get a reservation when you wanted and reservations had to be made daily if you wanted one. I also think the Windjammer set up is better with multiple stations on Royal. That being said. The service on Princess was amazing. The dining room food was just as good if not better. The cabin was bigger and I like the way the TV is raised and doesn't take up space. The vanity lighting was not good. They also still put chocolates on the pillow. I like the shower better as it was all one piece so nothing to crack or stain but did not like that the shower head did not lower. I like the way they put a name card on your mail holder and all of the pools. The steak house was better than Chops.

I would certainly sail them again, I'm actually on a 4 day on the Golden on Monday. It's nice that they have such a presence on the west cost.

We really like Princess! Haven't sailed her in a few years because we have been sailing with teens but will go back to Princess when it is just adults. They have a great product and we love the grill next to the pool deck. Olives at the back of the ship is a great spot...enjoy!

We just returned from a Coastal on the Crown Princess.

A couple of quick notes. On both sea days, there is a great English Pub lunch served in the Wheelhouse Bar.

If you enjoy your liquor, you can purchase bottles for your cabin. Also, at the first bar, ask for a "Clean Sweep Bar Bill Card". Every time you have a drink, make sure the card is punched. Get all 30 punched, and you have a chance at having your bar bill paid for by Princess, in a drawing.

Carol, aka, Marion_Mom, is a wonderful person, and I would love to cruise with her again.

Enjoy Princess..........we do!!:D

Oh my goodness!!! Completely agreed. I had the waiter bring me a small side dish every night. Wow, it was phenomenal. :D

Before my first Princess cruise I had read all the high fives about the Fettucini Alfredo and couldn't wait to try it. I was underwhelmed.:o Maybe I should have given it another try on a subsequent cruise, but I didn't. Now Sabatini's, that was a WOW for me.

Another poster mentioned names outside the cabins. On a thread somewhere else, a person was absolutely incensed that Princess would do that, went on and on about it and would not "give it up" even after being told you just take the name tag out. They weren't even sailing on Princess.

I love the closet setup on Princess. It's like having another small room where one of us can get dressed out of the way of the other.
