Onboard credit question

I have a quick question regarding onboard credit. We booked our cruise in July while they had $400 onboard credit offer.

 

From what I understand- I can use this on drinks, specialty restaurants, an excursion (as long I book on the ship, correct?).

 

I was just wondering if this credit applies to the shops as well?? If I bought, say a watch, would it come from this credit?

 

I apologize if this is a silly question, but I appreciate the insight!! :)

Depends where it came from. If it all came from Royal, then the claws will appear. If it came from your travel agent, then you can usually get a refund on the last day. Remember though that even if the OBC is non-refundable, you can go to the casino and get cash against your onboard account. They will charge you 5% for that, but it's better than losing it all.

It all depends if the OBC is refundable or nonrefundable. They are supposed to use up the nonrefundable OBC first and then the refundable.

 

So the first thing you need to identify is if the OBC is refundable or not. Crown and Anchor can help you do this. If refundable, any negative balance on your Seapass card should be credited back to your credit card. If it is nonrefundable, the best thing to do is to go to the casino and withdraw the cash and pay the 5% fee to do that. Otherwise it is lost.

Depends....if it came from RCL then it's use it or lose it...if it came from Visa points or your TA you can get any leftover OBC either in cash on your last day or credited to the card attached to your Seapass Card...if it is non-refundable OBC you can still get it back less 5% at the casino...

If you don't use it you lose it. Don't forget you will be charged for gratuities daily.

If you have any left, on the last day, you can get cash from casino for a fee.

I think it was like 5%. (Not sure)

I have MTD..... so grats already paid.... it's unlikely I'll have any left as I buy internet..... I'd use it to purchase my drinks package on board but that's more than the OBC for a 2 week cruise! Lol. Maybe an excursion then..... cheers all.

Plan ahead. If you know you're getting an OBC then do not pre-pay any gratuities or specialty restaurants. Book an excursion on board or buy your beverage plan on board on the first day. Use it up and enjoy it rather than hoping to get it back in cash.

Normally, you do NOT get any money back. It can also be used in the spa.We use ours for meals in the specialty restaurants.

If you have refundable OBC, then you will get it back in the form of cash on the last afternoon or credited back to the credit card on file.

 

Refundable OBC can be identified as any money not given to you by C&A.

I read that usually the credit does not show up on your account until the 3rd day of the cruise if it's a 7-night cruise. Do I have to wait until then to use the credits? Also, can I use the onboard credits towards the daily gratuities?

You can use OBC for gratuities, as long as you have not prepaid gratuities.

 

It does not matter what day the OBC is applied, as long as it is applied before the end of the cruise. Royal accumulates your charges, then subtracts the OBC at the end of the cruise.

It is simply a "credit" against any charges...you can't specify HOW to spend it...it's simply applied to the first $400 (or however much OBC you have) that you spend. In essence, the first $00 you spend on the ship costs you nothing.

Some travel agents give on board credit, which would normally be in addition to what you would get from Royal by booking a cruise on board.

I do know that if you have OBC from your Royal Caribbean Visa points you will receive a refund on your credit card statement if all is not used.

This happened to us in September.

I was actually surprised that we had not used it all!

I have a cruise booked for inside cabin.. Can I take advantage of this promo by upgrading to an oceanview & paying the difference? (even if I paid in full). Need to add a little to it. The OBC -- if calculated & used for gratuities.. I would have paid less for an oceanview than inside.

 

can I do that? let me know. Will call the TA later :D
