San JUan cabs or transports

I got great advice here, so I'll just mention there is a taxi line at airport and you are directed to the next available white cab. The fare was $21 plus $1 for each bag including carry on. Not bad. We gave $30 each way, and they were happy.

Biggest problem we had was no porters and no luggage carts to help yourself at the baggage claim. Then getting to taxi line, that wrapped around the airport, you had to shuffle your luggage. That could be improved greatly.

Going back was a lot better. But you could not go too early, as they wouldn't let you in the board area more than 2 hours. We went in Nov 2014.

There is a general rule (with a few exceptions) for cruisers. Taking a taxi from an airport is nearly always less expensive (for a couple) then a cruise line transfer and the taxi will get you to your destination much faster. In some cases with cruise line transfers, one will have to sit around the airport waiting until the transfer company can fill a bus or van. Our worst cruise line transfer experience happened on a Celebrity cruise/transfer when we arrived at the airport in Buenos Aires. The transfer folks met us at the baggage area and told us we could "hang out" at the airport coffee shop for about 1 1/2 hours since they were waiting for a delayed flight to fill their bus. DW and I just hopped in a taxi (it cost us less then $25) and went to our hotel. We checked-in and went out for a nice breakfast. About 2 hours later we returned to our hotel just as the cruise ship transfer was arriving...and then those folks were herded into a long queue to complete their check-in and get their keys.

This past Sunday we debarked a cruise in the Port of Miami. As soon as we got our luggage we joined the taxi queue which took about 10 min for us to get our taxi. Meanwhile, there were two Celebrity transfer buses just sitting about half full...waiting for more folks. In fact, we were even asked if we wanted to take the transfer bus...but said no. Our taxi to MIA cost $24 (total cost for 2) plus a small tip. We were probably at the airport while those buses were still waiting at the port.
