question re dining Journey

I am under the impression that dining is open seating in all venues, although Prime C and Aqualina require reservations. However, I can't find anything on the website to confirm this, so hoped that you experienced Azamara cruisers would know the answer for sure.

We are newbies as well and regarding Prime C and Aqualina, have learned, I think that reservations are only taken on board starting boarding day so best to hit up (need the correct location) to get the best reservations if one is a fan of the Specialities. Appreciate any comments on that as well as ridolphi's queston.

In general you need to book botth speciality restaurants. i do it the day i board. .if yuo like eatingafter 830 you can cal lthat day adn get in.. i book some and cancel as i am to fill to eat. .but find it works better for me.

The MDR is open seating. When you arrive you let the maître d' know which size table you prefer and depending on availability you'll be seated right away or have a short wait.

 

If you enjoy the specialty restaurants you can save a little money by buying a package in the boarding area on embarkation day, or you can just make individual reservations.

You both have it right, main dining room is open seating, though on the first night, they give everyone a suggested time (though it is only suggested you could ignore that suggestion)

No, not even for late evening, if its full its full

 

Bear in mind most posters on this board are not in suites so what works in suites (or not) is not good for them

I understand that.. but i have called and got in. .also I have gone at 8 or later and the place is half empty. I have canceled after a tour due to begn tired or not hungry so my table is now open to book.. seems on my UK cruise it was full but many people like 7 or 730 and I notice lots of tables leaving by 830 to 9. Sea days always full and I hav e waited for a table.

Thanks everyone for the info. One further question, when making reservations for the alternative venues, say I want a table of six, and we know who we want to dine with, do I need their names at the time, or can I just make a reservation for six, and tell them we have our own group?

there might be a desk outside the ship near where you get your boarding card. there was in europe.. but in general I have seen that desk set up in the buffet restaurant with someoen there from about 1 to 4 -guessing here. if you try mid cruise tou can cal lfrom 10 to 4 a number-in cabin by phone. .you can stop in at night and ask about another day.. so several places after the first day.

Hi Dave,

When we did our boarding on the Journey, which was in the Cabaret Lounge on deck 5, we walked around the corner near the forward elevators and they took our embarkation photo which is the one available for purchase. It's not the same as the photo they take to identify you when you leave the ship. Right past that near the casino, they were showing the different upgrades to the drink packages and I believe they also had an area for the speciality restaurants, if I remember correctly. I didn't pay a lot of attention to it though because I was not worried about a reservation that first week, nor on our previous ACC (and anyone correct me if I'm mistaken). If that is truly the case, your rooms will probably not be ready, if you board as soon as you are allowed. We boarded around 11:30.

By the way....I enjoyed the Packer/Bears game tonight. :D ;)

On boarding day, all the wait staff are promoting the specialty dining. There are tables set up in the main lobby, at the main entrance to Windows, and you could also just ask any of the staff.

You call that a game????? Actually I blame some long time friends from Seattle who somehow got tickets to the game for his birthday and flew in from Seattle just for the weekend and game.

 

They are die hard Seahawk fans but, he has a soft spot in his heart for the packers so she bought the tickets as his birthday present.

 

Think I'll now put the bears in the same location as the long suffering cubbies!!!!!

I am on Journey now. We booked the three dinner package as soon as we boarded....went up to Aqualina and spoke to the Maitre D. We had no problem choosing our preferred times and we dined in Aqualina the night before last with the new Italian menu. They change them every five days from Menu 1 to Menu 2.

The food was wonderful and although I mourn the loss of the Grand Marnier Soufflé, I must say that the Limoncello Soufflé was delicious. We are in Prime C tonight and trying Aqualina Menu 2 later in the week. I will try to remember to take pictures of the new Menu's for you all.

Actually, it was pretty sad. I felt bad for the Bears' fans.
