Any advice for a hotel and good restaurant near the FLL port?

Flying into FLL one day early (this way we don't have to spend the night at a Philly airport hotel AND get up at 4am for a 6:30am flight) and I would appreciate any recommendations for a nice (doesn't have to be 4 star) hotel and restaraunt near the FLL port.

Thanks

Go to the florida departures forum (or follow this link). Lot's of excellent advice and you will usually get an answer rather quickly. But you should be more explicit and tell folks how much you want to spend, number of people, etc.

Here's a good link to which shows hotels in and around the port. You can also select different areas if you'd rather stay outside this area.

Once you settle on a general area, use google maps. Center it on the area you're interested in and search for restaurants. You'll get locations, reviews, menus, etc.

For hotels near the port, we like the Embassy Suites, Hilton Ft Lauderdale Marina and Hyatt 66. The Embassy Suites is the best location for walking to restaurants, a liquor store and grocery store. The Hyatt 66 has the nicest pool area. Both the Hilton and Hyatt are on the water and you can walk along the water and admire some of the mega yachts. They're also a short walk to the 17th Street bridge to gat a view of the cruise ships in port. For a restaurant, we like the Southport Raw Bar on Cordova Rd. Its a local, hole in the wall with fresh, reasonably priced seafood. Its on the water and only a short wait (most times) for a table unless you want to sit out by the water.

Recently posted this for another CC member. We have stayed at several FLL hotels pre-cruise, but our best experience was at the Comfort Inn Airport Cruiseport on S. Federal Hwy.

They provide free airport AND cruise port shuttle, as well as free breakfast and wifi. The staff were amazing and there are several restaurants with a walkable distance. I used this hotel for a group of 20 cabins pre-cruise and everyone enjoyed it.

The Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort has a pre cruise package which includes breakfast - runs till 11am and a shuttle to the ship. This hotel is on the beach and there are many restaurants along the road nearby.

The Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina is even closer to the port and also has a pre cruise package with breakfast and shuttle to ship.

Both of these are very good.

The Embassy Suites is also good and offers a shuttle to the port.

Really, there are so many nice hotels close to the port it is hard to go wrong.

We stayed at the Fairfield, which is near the airport. They have a free breakfast and free shuttle from airport to hotel and a free shuttle at night to nearby eateries. They do charge for shuttle to port, but they will arrange a taxi to the port and it only costs about $20 and is a lot quicker and more comfortable than the shuttle. Rustic Crab is nearby and is a very good restaurant to eat at, good seafood.

We stayed in Ft Lauderdale twice in the last few months. Holiday Inn Convention center for about 100.00 on a Friday night. Had a real breakfast. Bacon/eggs, biscuits gravy, fruit, cereal. Nice room.

Have stayed at Hyatt Place - behind Publix in harbor shops in the convention center area. Had a real breakfast as well and a café place that would cook to order as well. It was also around a 100.00 on a Sat night. Way nicer room. Had separate area with a sectional and kitchenette from bed.

Both clean and nice and had shuttles to and from the airport. Neither shuttled to the ports. Taxi was cheap since it's less than a mile from the ports.

A lot of CC members use ValueTrips to book the Hyatt Place near the port. The website gives you the blackout dates. This is a very nice 3 star hotel and this website offers amazing savings. You may have to wait a few days to hear back from them regarding your booking. There are dozens of restaurants within walking distance to this hotel, mostly very casual. Some more upscale ones are Market 17, Bistro Mezzaluna, Coco Asian, and Bimini Boatyard. Grill 66 and 15th St Fisheries are a little further, about a mile or so. If you want something that is non-chain and inexpensive with table service, Bravo is good.
