Bars running out of premium liquor ....whats up with that???

Every cruise but one has run out of San Pelligrino water before the end of the cruise. The MDR usually is the last to run out.

I do know that each bar has it own liquor/wine/beer stock they have to keep track of. I was with a person who wanted a certain wine by the glass in the Martini Bar. They did not carry it. She waited and finally a bartender from another bar showed up with a glass of the Reserve Wine but said that the Martini Bar cannot stock it? mmmm.

The Sunset bar waiter did make sure we had our favorite wine throughout the cruise on the Constellation in the Med. last year.

Guess it just depends on many factors if they run out or not.

I do understand the sentiment of using premium vodka in the grapefruit juice, but I am a vodka drinker. While I can tell the difference when I drink it straight up (my usual choice), I can not tell the difference if my bloody mary or screwdriver was made with absolut or stoli elit. (yes, if flavored vodka was used, I might be able to taste it..depends on which one, of course). I know some have reactions to the base of the vodka..potato, grapes, etc and that's an important issue...but demanding a premium vodka when mixed with grapefruit juice or other juices just doesn't seem worth fretting over.

 

I agree that premium vodka isn't really necessary in a mixed drink . It was just that the bartenders were using them at the beginning of the cruise so it became evident they ran out towards the end. The last day or so I had to go to an inside bar to get ANY kind of unflavored vodka. (I REALLY do dislike the flavored ones.)

(Don't know if it shows how picky I am but I often took a glass of fresh squeezed grapefruit juice from our breakfast in Blu to make my Greyhounds. You know the story of The Princess and the Pea - that might describe my taste buds. :o ... :o ... :o )

I certainly agree with you on that....and yes, fresh juice makes a big difference but you pretty much have to do what you did....DIY. I can definitely tell the difference between fresh squeezed juice and the other options.

We got off Brilliance on the 15th and they had no IPA's and some bars didn't have Captain Morgan.:eek: It was a first for us.

Well I have on Royal.....on Navigator a few years back the F&B Director had made the decision NOT to carry grapefruit juice on the ship ANYWHERE....and since the only hard liquor drink I drink, a SeaBreeze, requires it I was most unhappy....and they wound with a LOT less of my money because of it.....thankfully that has not been the case since.....and now I drink wine so all good!!!!:D:D

At least you guys have the option to buy the drink pakage. On my upcoming Sillie sailing (Feb 1 ) alcohol packages are not availible at all. I guess that since we are heavy drinkers, X would loose money on the deal.

I thought that celebrity offered their drink packages (at a price) on all of their cruises (except the xpedition where it is included). Are you on a charter?

This past March the Connie ran out of Tuaca... not many drink it and we use it for shots. The last night of a 5 night we ran them out, not a single bar had it. We talked with a manager (several actually), one that sought us out to apologize for being out. It seems that several of the bottles had been on the ship for quite some time. They wanted to know if we were on a B2B as they would have to order more for us.

Never thought it was to keep prices down, did have one bartender show up at the casino bar with his "bottle" of Tuaca because he noticed we were ordering it and the casino bar was almost out. Great bunch of guys. We did tip quite well.

Yes it is an Atlantis full ship charter.I was on the Allure Of The Seas when Atlantis did a charter on her in 2011. Near the end of the week a bartender told me that they sold more alcohol in one day on that cruise than an entire week on a regular cruise.:)

We went on a themed wine cruise on Mercury a few years back. 1/2 way through they ran out of the wine my wife drinks, pinot noir...We overheard the bar manager telling the bar tenders to push the merlot, apparently they were out of a lot of the reds. We were cruising the west coast and Canada, you would think they could have picked up more wine in any of the ports.

Reminds me, on Equinox in August and they ran out of Drambui, not surprising as between 2 of us we drink maybe a Bottle a day. So the Bar Guy said he would go try other bars for us. He came back 30 minutes later with a bottle " I raided the Captains personal bar" was his comment. Well done.

Running out of products can work two ways. On our recent (last week) Eclipse cruise they ran out of Glenfiddich (the only single malt scotch on the Classic Package) at our favorite bar. They immediately restocked with a higher end Glenfiddich item (a Select Cask version) which sells for about twice the price of the regular stuff. Not a bad deal as I was getting a better scotch on the Classic Package then we would normally get on the Premium Package.
