I have been on 36 Carnival cruises and the upsell fairy has only contacted me twice. I declined both times. Last summer I booked an oceanview guarantee on the Fascination and received a balcony.

We got an upsell offer on both of our cruises-- took one of them. They were our first 2, both in October-pseudo b2b.

I have been on 25 cruises. Most with Carnival but also other lines. I haven't ever had an upsell call or e-mail.

I had an upsell call my first cruise, nothing since. Don't hear about too many people just getting upgraded without paying for the privilege.

First Carnival cruise was September 2011. We leave next month on cruise # 9 with #10 already booked. That will be 10 cruises in 4 years. All except the first cruise are balcony staterooms. No call for upgrades or upsells.

I have never had an upsell call nor I have ever had a complimentary upgrade.

 

I hear it happens, but it seems to be a elusive as bigfoot.

we got the call on our last cruise on the Victory..bumped from Balcony to Grand Suite..it was nice! Second time in the Grand Suite too :) The calls do happen!

Got an upsale email, but the cabins weren't in a desirable area.

Upsell comes usually between the 1st cruise and the 5000th cruise ymmv.

On my 5th, upgrade from inside to oceanview

8th--- upsell from 2 balconies to 1 grand suite.... Declined

11th--- upsell from balcony to grand suite... Also declined

Only had a call from the Carnival Upsell fairy once. Declined it. Many calls from her sister the HAL Upsell Fairy with good deals.

 

Try calling her cousin the Discount Elf. He takes a look at your past cruises and can make you an offer.

 

No 1 is they do not want the price advertised, so word of mouth, verbal offers is the way to go.

I have been on six Carnival Cruises and the fairy never came. I have been on Princess 7 times and she has arrived four times. Two times on RC- never upgraded and once on HAL and never.

 

For some reason Princess has been good to me. I have to say those were not guarentied rooms either.

I've been on 12 or 13 cruises and never had an upsell call either. BUT... we have called into Carnival (or in our first cruise the TA) and have gotten an ocean view upgrade from an interior for the same price. In both cases the cruises were in the fall (slow season) and there was room to move. So twice we have initiated a call and received an upgrade. No calls into us though.

We have had an upsell call on 2 of our 3 cruises. One was an obstructed view balcony booked, offered a grand suite, the other we had booked an aft extended and we were offered a ocean suite. We declined both.

I assume most people never receive any upgrades. We have 44 cruises on Carnival and have never had an upgrade or even upsell call. We have two cruises each on Royal and NCL and no upgrades there either. We are sailing on HAL this summer in Alaska and we like our cabin but would take a suite if offered.

 

Maybe someday we will receive a free upgrade too.
