chrismakris Posted January 20, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 20, 2015 Hello All, My wife and I have just returned from the Southern Caribbean aboard the Celebrity Summit. This is the first part of my review. Choice of Cruise My wife and I last January had decided to take another cruise while on the Summit last year while we were on her. In fact, I think it took us about 24 hours to realize that we really liked her. We decided to do Summits 2nd itinerary in the Southern Caribbean. I had researched this cruise a little bit before we got on the ship as well as a couple of other itineraries, so I knew what I was interested in before we got the Summit. Choice of Cabin I am a Veranda guy. Don't think I need anything else above that. So when booking on board I was dead set on a just a Veranda cabin. No upsell on this guy. " Are you sure you don't want a Sky Suite? It's only $250/pp more and you get a $250 OBC." said the salesman. Sold! Damnit!!!!!! We chose Cabin 6123. Midship. Choice of Flights After our 36 hour flight adventure getting to our first Summit cruise I decided to use ChoiceAir to get to San Juan, if only for the fact I would have another voice in my corner in case of airline problems. I booked Seattle-Washington DC-San Juan. I was a little nervous because of a small 53 minute layover, but the price was to good to pass up. Those nerves were washed away a couple of weeks later when I got an email that my itinerary had been changed to Seattle-Houston-San Juan. Only now we had a 5 hour and 15 minute layover. Nothing like getting in at 5 in the morning to catch your connecting flight. I chose the same return flight as last year. San Juan-JFK-Seattle. Good flight times, good food at the airport and nice buffer in connecting times in case of flight delays out of San Juan. Choice of Pre-Cruise Hotel Same hotel as last time. Courtyard Marriott Miramar. 5 minutes from the cruise terminal. 10 minutes to Old San Juan. 10 minutes from the airport. Has a nice restaurant downstairs and the rooms have a bed and working toilet and shower in them. Can't ask for more.

chrismakris Posted January 20, 2015 Author #5 Share Posted January 20, 2015 Day 1 - San Juan No tour today. Just woke up and had breakfast at the hotel, where we just waited and went to the cruise ship terminal right after. We got to the cruise terminal and checked in. The process was smooth and painless. We boarded the ship walked around the ship to get our bearings. We then headed straight for our room. We were on Deck 6. We were surprised to find a bottle of champagne there for us. The suite was better than expected. Plenty of storage for our clothes. A nice bathroom with a tub. A nice sitting area for breakfast each morning. We headed upstairs again where my wife booked a massage for the sea day. We then went and had a burger at the pool bar grill. We then headed back to our room, stopping off at Normandie to make reservations for Tuesday night. We bumped into our friends who had decided to join us on this cruise. Muster drill was for 7:30pm. It seemed to be delayed because I believe a few people were still watching the football game when they should have been at their station. Dinner was in the main dining room that evening. I had the prime rib. It was excellent. I will try and remember as much as I can for what I had for dinner. We then headed to the bar at the casino where they were showing the Seahawks - Panthers game. My wife hung out with me for a little while before she decided it was time for bed. Finished watching the game(My Seahawks won!) and then headed for bed. The only disappointment was that our favorite bartenders from the previous cruise, Numan and Geday at the Martini Bar, were no longer on the ship. We didn't let it ruin our cruise though. Day 2 - Sea Day Woke up late and found that my wife had already left for her massage. I got ready and was ready to head out when she came back. We went and had lunch at the pool bar(A regular theme for us this cruise). The day was basically a pool day with a coffee at Cafe Al Bacio for a game of crib. We had formal night this evening and we kept it simple going to the Main Dining room. I can't remember what I had. Sorry. I'm pretty sure it was good because I don't remember having one bad meal. After dinner we went to the casino bar again where we found our two new favorite bartenders, Dan and Anatoly. We had a couple of drinks and then retired to our room for some shut eye before our first port of call, Barbados.

Mr. Click Posted January 21, 2015 #19 Share Posted January 21, 2015 we did the Summit/Southern Caribbean in 2013 with 5 of our British cousins. The only complaint anyone had was we had to get off the ship after 7 days......
LzyCruiser_NWA Posted January 21, 2015 #20 Share Posted January 21, 2015 When coming back onto the ship, did they check for IDs/passports or was your cruiseship card enough?
chrismakris Posted January 21, 2015 Author #21 Share Posted January 21, 2015 Neuman and Gede took good care of our group last January...sorry to hear they're gone! Yes, very disappointing. Not that the other bartenders there weren't good. They were. But Numan and Gede had a great personality and were willing to converse and joke around with you and each other. They entertained. The bartenders they had there were there to do their job. Very robotic. When coming back onto the ship, did they check for IDs/passports or was your cruiseship card enough? They checked for ID's at the security checkpoint to get back into the area where the ships are. My wife and I used our drivers licences.
