david_sobe Posted January 20, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 20, 2015 I get a chuckle with cruise reviews that are overly dramatic with small or trivial things that makes them give negative reviews. No lobster night, room service not saying hello, someone did not smile, or there was nothing to eat the entire cruise. But today in the Getaway reviews there is something new. The carpet around the ship did not have enough cushion. It was so bad they were forced to wear tennis shoes because the carpet was too hard. Hmmm, vacations do make you walk a lot in port and all over the ship. How in the world does carpet cushion on the ship come into the equation? Even if you have health issues or have trouble walking, the waterfront or other areas are not carpeted. How could the carpet cushion ruin your cruise? What next? The water in the pool gets you wet  So it is official, I have heard of everything
rpb718 Posted January 20, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 20, 2015 (edited) What did they get for compensation? Surely that's worth a bottle of whine. Edited January 20, 2015 by rpb718
triptolemus Posted January 20, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 20, 2015 Wow... http://www.cruisecritic.com/memberreviews/memberreview.cfm?EntryID=269724 On day two of the cruise, my shin splints began really screaming. As I looked around it occurred to me that they seriously cheaped out on the carpet. As with casinos, hotels, and any place that gets extremely heavy foot traffic, ships typically have very thick, plush carpet. Not this ship. You can knock on the carpet and hear the floor underneath. No more pretty sandals and shoes for me. I had to LIVE in the Nike sneakers I had blessedly packed. That relieved the shin splints after another day. All the pretty dresses were packed back in my suitcase, and I had to wear pants and capris the rest of the trip to keep from looking ridiculous. Hey NCL...SPEND THE MONEY on DECENT CARPET when you have to replace it all in 6 months.

david_sobe Posted January 20, 2015 Author #8 Share Posted January 20, 2015 Or a bottle of Whine Now that is one of the funniest things I have ever seen here in years! Very clever. Maybe instead of walking the plank on Getaway, they can be forced to walk the hard carpet
ColinIllinois Posted January 20, 2015 #9 Share Posted January 20, 2015 Actually there was some areas where the carpet was very plush but unfortunately the carpet hogs had left their shoes on it first thing in the morning. Son of a.......

Robert Peel Posted January 20, 2015 #14 Share Posted January 20, 2015 I once had a wise older gentlemen tell me that for people that like to complain about trivial matters " If it's sunny, it's too sunny!!" nyc2theworld Posted January 20, 2015 #15 Share Posted January 20, 2015 I think we should start a new thread. "What is the least substantive thing you can complain about on NCL and what compensation do you feel is deserved."

hpecorari Posted January 21, 2015 #17 Share Posted January 21, 2015 (edited) This is one of the many times I wish we could 'reply' to a review! Which, is actually, the problem. Anyone can write anything they want in a review with absolutely no repercussions. Harriet Edited January 21, 2015 by hpecorari
luddite Posted January 21, 2015 #18 Share Posted January 21, 2015 I think we should start a new thread. "What is the least substantive thing you can complain about on NCL and what compensation do you feel is deserved." I remember once when someone was trying to be the first of the new year with a 'NCL is crud' thread. They had two complaints: They got a cold waffle in the dining room one morning and they had to bait their own hooks on a fishing excursion. Rare GeezerCouple Posted January 21, 2015 #21 Share Posted January 21, 2015 I once had a wise older gentlemen tell me that for people that like to complain about trivial matters " If it's sunny, it's too sunny!!" That complaint is absolutely priceless, what will they think of next? What will they think of next? Here's what they DID think of next: Person "A" had celiac disease. For some reason, it seems that A didn't actually *speak* to someone about special dining needs until after SEVERAL DAYS of increasing medical problems. ... and then - yes, wait for it - actually complained that she/he had to speak to someone about it for special menu arrangements. I guess A expected that ALL food on the ship would be prepared for his/her special dietary needs? GeezerCouple

SteveH2508 Posted January 21, 2015 #24 Share Posted January 21, 2015 We should start a sweepstake as to who will start a comparison thread about cruise lines' carpet thickness. I can just see the cheerleaders on their hands and knees checking out the thread count and thickness of the carpets on their favoured lines. What next - the patterns on the carpet caused a migraine? The carpet colour clashed with my clothes?
