RCCL Pre buying OBC.

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I was just advised by the RCI rep that it was a mistake that they were offering $AUD $1 = $USD $1 and that they are now fixing the system that allowed this.

In a couple of days time they will have it fixed then will be offering the conversion rate!

Sorry those that missed out (me) after all we've known about it for 10 days! and happy for those that got in early! :D

Gae

That's interesting. Anyone else getting this response.

Yes. Just got off the phone from them and had the same response. Their system is down until Sunday or Monday and when it is back up it will be at the "conversion" rate.

Me thinks this thread on CC may not be not entirely without blame either ...

Of course not, we're taking advantage of it, no doubt about that.

Once someone posts something on FB though, it's in the public environment and gets a lot more exposure than it would on here. Not only that, the idiot didn't just share it with his friends, he posted it to the official RCI Facebook page for ALL of their customers & followers to see. No wonder they took it off...

Exactly!

I am not convinced by the 'system error' response from RCI though - the guy I spoke to clearly stated they had been doing it for a while. The only error was thousands of people trying to get it once it hit Facebook...

I took a screen grab of RCI's confirmation and printed it out to take with me - paranoid much! :)

Can someone please help me here? I'm absolutely FUMING! I called first thing this morning to get the special onboard credit promotion and was told to call back tomorrow as they were having difficulty. As the day progressed, there was something quite not right and I thought I should have got a name so if something suspect was to happen, I would have a name of someone I'd spoken to.

So I called again (only to be cut off) and a third time, was on hold for 20 min, (as the first call). The person I spoke to said that the promotion was running until Monday and that there were difficulties putting credit to our accounts and I said that I heard other people had, so he put me through to someone else to verify if there was still a problem. The person in admin, then told me that the promotion finished at 1pm today. I wanted to speak to someone higher and he told me that apparently it was an error out of Miami, that it ever existed. It was a "mistake". I demanded I get the credit as I was told this morning that I could call back tomorrow and do so. Not only were they deterring me from acquiring it because it was never meant to be but they gave me false information, telling me that I could get it tomorrow. Then the first guy I spoke to on my last call, said I had until Monday. I keep getting different responses from the same company!

So there's obviously been a big stuff up somewhere and I've been discriminated against as some were able to get this offer and others, not. He said it had finished 6 hours ago, yet I had called 9 hours before. He really did not care about how frustrated and upset I was. I've read reviews and forums where people have found customer service through RCCL to be appalling. I was hoping to never have to use it but they've lived up to their name. He then proceeded to tell me that it was in their terms and conditions to change or stop a promotion at any time but he had just told me that it was still current when I called!

I had planned on spending quite a bit on board but not only do I not feel like spending a cent nos, the cruise itself and the company have left me with a sour taste in my mouth.

No maybe not so much profit but with this incentive, they are collecting a lot of money well in advance of what would normally occur so they can use all that capital. In addition, people are likely to spend more on the ship as A) they have pre-purchased and B) they bought at $ for $.:D

Agreeing with Mic.:D

My thoughts exactly. :)

Stuff up - yes, 'discrimination" - no. As the saying goes...'them's the breaks'...no point in stressing over this

Agreed, it doesn't really matter if it was a 'promo' or 'sale' or 'a stuff up' or 'an anomaly', either way it has finished now.

I feel bad for those that missed out, but it is like anything in life, some people can take advantage of a situation and others cannot, it is just timing.:D

Clear is not a word I would use in this case.

They've pulled it within a week of it being widely publicised when it was around for much longer, stated it needed to be fixed, and stopped further purchases.

Seems pretty clear that they didn't see those benefits you suggested earlier.
