Our stop in Dubrovnik last year was in the newish cruise terminal.

A shuttle bus was on hand to take you to the centre of the town. A charge for the bus may be levied if you are on any type of saver fare.

Quite a long walk yo city but can be done. If you have to pay for shuttle bus the alternative is the local bus just at the port gate. It is cheaper but needs local currency. You can get some before you leave dock. If you want to "walk the walls", which is well worth doing, go early. It gets very hot and very busy later.

There are taxis at the port exit and last time we were there it was €10 fixed price for the taxi (lots of people doubling up with other couples) to Pile Gate which is one of the entrances to the old town and one of the points where you can pay to start walking the walls. Agree, good idea to go early to beat the crowds, tour groups and heat.

 

But for a taxi for 4 we think €10 good value to make a quick transfer to the centre. For the same price they will take you to the cable car station too. Fab views from here - the typical postcard picture shot. From the cable car you can easily walk to the Harbour and access the old town from the opposite side to Pile Gate.

 

Taxis pick up for the return just outside Pile Gate. There will be a queue but a steady stream of taxis roll up, groups of four link up and it's quite quick. Unless you get a free shuttle and that doesn't involve waits or delays a taxi would be my choice of getting to the town quickly and easily.

For the beer drinkers wanting to quench their thirsts after a walk around the walls, I absolutely recommend a bottle of chilled Tomislav.

A strong dark beer. Hits the spot believe me.

Hi, not sure is it still applies fee for walking the walls required local currency in 2012 did not accept euros so we quickly changed a small amount in a bureau close by,

I pulled out a small amount of local currency from an ATM. I hope you are not in port with 4 other monstrous ships, as last time we were there, it was almost impossible to walk in the town. Absolutely heaving with cruise ship passengers. not fun.

We were there last year on Aurora and had to tender in as the cruise berths were all full. However, we anchored the other side of Dubrovnik and the tenders took us straight into the town so no bus was required.

Our shuttle bus dropped us off right outside the city walls. The pay desk for the walls is just on your right as you enter the old town thought the gateway. We had a great day without joining any tours at all.:)

Yes, you can easily do the walls and the cable car in a day if you get an early start.

 

Look for the slit trenches at the top and a grand view of the town below.

 

One of our top ports anywhere.

We bought our tickets from a tourist booth across the road once we'd left the oldtown, using local currency.

 

Doing it first meant there was only a short queue for the cable car & once up a fantastic view.

You can also use a credit card for the cable car and at the cafe at the top if you want to avoid getting local currency. Most shops and cafes accept Euros.
