camarowesley Posted March 5, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 5, 2015 (edited) I didn't want to hijack the current thread about dancing waiters in the MDR, but I am curious as to how people feel about the magicians that interrupt your dinner with hokey card tricks. rudechuck Posted March 5, 2015 #3 Share Posted March 5, 2015 I don't really enjoy GOOD magicians that much. Really don't want to watch a bad one, especially in the middle of dinner.
BeachLoverstoo Posted March 5, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 5, 2015 The one we had on Liberty last year was great. He was working the room, but didn't approach us until we had finished a course. I'm easily tricked, but DH usually sees the slight of hand, but not with this guy.
SadieN Posted March 5, 2015 #5 Share Posted March 5, 2015 We rarely see the magician 'over there' let alone at our table. We usually see them in the Buffet or a special non-advertised show.
OCruisers Posted March 5, 2015 #6 Share Posted March 5, 2015 Having to put up with the dancing is bad enough while we're trying to eat. Please, no magician as well!
ready2cruzagain Posted March 5, 2015 #7 Share Posted March 5, 2015 Hate it. Makes me feel like I am a kid that someone is trying to keep busy during dinner so that I don't act up. Seriously? It was a few very bad card tricks that was annoying. I didn't know if I was suppose to tip him or what. Get rid of the so called magician in mdr, and pay to bring back drink coupon or chocolates with his salary.:D

SMSACE6 Posted March 5, 2015 #9 Share Posted March 5, 2015 doesn't really matter to me. I dont hate it however, because I am sure there are some who love it, or even like it, therefore it is ok with me. I dont expect for everything to be to my and only my liking in the main dining room. That feeling includes the recent poll on waiters dancing through the dining room. It is not something I look forward to, but accept that many do. So, same thing with the magician. I find the magicians usually only go to the larger tables or tables with children or teens, so they rarely impact my dining room experience. love my grandkids Posted March 5, 2015 #10 Share Posted March 5, 2015 We enjoy it but on last two cruises he never came to our table.
mzloolue Posted March 5, 2015 #11 Share Posted March 5, 2015 I was on a cruise a couple of years ago and a man at a neighboring table had a heart attack and actually died at dinner. I did notice that it looked like the magician who was a first responder. I don't know if this is common, but it is interesting. Perhaps the magicians fill more than one purpose. klfrodo Posted March 5, 2015 #12 Share Posted March 5, 2015 The kids are amazed and love it. So,,, why not?
bonnie&clydecruzers Posted March 5, 2015 #13 Share Posted March 5, 2015 I voted "Doesn't really matter" because out of all of our cruises and dinners, the magician came to our table only 1 time and that was on our last cruise. So to be "interrupted" only 1 time in all of our dinners was not a problem with us. It was enjoyable and he was quite good.
Bigal1017 Posted March 5, 2015 #14 Share Posted March 5, 2015 We really enjoyed the magician on the Splendor last November. I actually requested he stop over every night during dinner. Sent from my LG-D415 using Tapatalk
katiel53 Posted March 5, 2015 #15 Share Posted March 5, 2015 Wasn't this question just asked a short while ago on John Heald's page? I will give the same answer here as I did there. It doesn't matter to me if they have them or not as we have only had the magician come to our table two times out of at least 20 cruises. Personally, I'd rather have the magician than have people twirling dirty napkins, but that's another topic. I think the kids really like the magicians and the dancing, so I'm sure both will continue. islandatsea Posted March 5, 2015 #16 Share Posted March 5, 2015 While on the Paradise in 2013 & 2014 we never saw one in the dining room. Does not bother us if they want to do it maybe because we have never seen it done ;).
Yvonne Posted March 5, 2015 #17 Share Posted March 5, 2015 I didn't want to hijack the current thread about dancing waiters in the MDR, but I am curious as to how people feel about the magicians that interrupt your dinner with hokey card tricks. I'm the one who started that thread about the dancing waiters in the MDR. As for the magician, on our Paradise cruise last week he stopped at our table once. We had just ordered, so he wasn't really interrupting our dinner. We enjoyed his two tricks, and couldn't figure them out. If he only stops at tables that are finished with their current course, or before they receive food, or during dessert/coffee I don't mind. But I can see that it might be annoying if he stops when you're eating your hot entree. I don't care either way, they can keep the magician, or not. Doesn't really matter to me. MrMileStoner Posted March 5, 2015 #18 Share Posted March 5, 2015 If the table artist is having a hard time finding our table, we simply ask the maitre d' to make it happen. That does require you to actually speak with a maitre d'.
Out to sea! Posted March 5, 2015 #19 Share Posted March 5, 2015 I liked the magicians when the kids cruised with us. Now that they are out of the house, I really don;t care if magicians come by or not.
cmitch9999 Posted March 6, 2015 #20 Share Posted March 6, 2015 we really enjoyed the table magician when we have been lucky enough to have them stop by. I wonder if they can find out a way for those who want to have that experience be able to alert the magician, and others who prefer not can opt out.
