payne5p Posted April 2, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 2, 2015 I've not been able to find what kind of fish the Fish n Chips are. Does anyone know? If I were guessing, I'd say Cod, but would like to know for sure.

ready2cruzagain Posted April 2, 2015 #3 Share Posted April 2, 2015 Honestly, not sure but last time we were on the Conquest if I had to guess I would have said it was Pollock. It wasn't very thick like a good Cod loin. Thanks, now I am hungry!!:p
SkyMaster Posted April 2, 2015 #4 Share Posted April 2, 2015 I too, don't know exactly what it is, but it's a nice "white fish", and it's GOOD! Can't wait to get aboard for a bit more of it myself! :D "SKY"
Homosassa Posted April 2, 2015 #5 Share Posted April 2, 2015 It was pollock on the Liberty.
KenMo Posted April 2, 2015 #6 Share Posted April 2, 2015 I can't tell you what it is, but I know it is definitely not halibut.
ASchaff Posted April 2, 2015 #7 Share Posted April 2, 2015 I'm not sure, but it was fabulous...lol
mzloolue Posted April 2, 2015 #8 Share Posted April 2, 2015 I have tried fish and chips twice. And it was not worth eating either time. Once on Glory it was soggy. On Conquest the piece of fish was tiny and there was a ton of greasy batter. Yuck.
2Shoes2Go Posted April 2, 2015 #9 Share Posted April 2, 2015 Sorry, it wasn't good last month, on Liberty. I think it's been changed. It was hot, just cooked to our order, but greasy and too fishy for me. Always, in the past, it has been lightly battered with some herbs in it. This time, heavy batter.
beachbum53 Posted April 2, 2015 #10 Share Posted April 2, 2015 It's either Gorton's or Mrs. Paul's. Probably depends on what's on sale at the grocery store when the ship is in port.:D
Rare sparks1093 Posted April 2, 2015 #11 Share Posted April 2, 2015 Probably varies by supplier and therefore by ship.
SMSACE6 Posted April 2, 2015 #12 Share Posted April 2, 2015 I also think it is pollock, which is kind of like cod, just not as thick, or quite as good as cod, but ok. I enjoyed it once, and another time not so much, but I also once enjoyed the fried oysters, yet another time not so much. I do however love the calamari fritters, and the ceviche. Bouillabaisse is also acceptable. Tuna/watermelon thingy has also been good.

DirtyDawg Posted April 2, 2015 #14 Share Posted April 2, 2015 (edited) That's why they call it Fish and Chips and not Cod and Chips or Pollock and Chips - it could be anything in there. Just like another U.K. delicasy, Haggis, it's better if you don't think too much about what's inside - just dig in and enjoy!:D Edited April 2, 2015 by DirtyDawg
forwardcabin Posted April 2, 2015 #15 Share Posted April 2, 2015 It's fish the crew catches off the back of the ship while in port.

Retired_to_Cruise Posted April 2, 2015 #17 Share Posted April 2, 2015 I can't tell you what it is, but I know it is definitely not halibut. If you want the best fresh Halibut fish and chips, jump on the Legend in early May in Seattle and ride it to Juneau, Alaska. Get off the ship and go down town to The Red Dog Saloon. We have done it 4 times (3 on the Spirit and 1 on the Miracle) and it is even better each time you do it.

I just looked at their menu and it says they use Alaskan Rockfish for their F&C. But I still book marked it.

dioxide45 Posted April 3, 2015 #21 Share Posted April 3, 2015 It's fish the crew catches off the back of the ship while in port. If that is truly the case, I would expect it to be Flying Fish. Which BTW was quite tasty when we were in Barbados on the Celebrity Summit. Though not sure it would go well as fish and chips, they had it in a spicy breading on a Flying Fish Sandwich.
