Lizzie68 Posted April 29, 2015 #1276 Share Posted April 29, 2015 We noticed the jeans & flannel shirts, shorts et al. But DH commented how some of the young, new passengers were dressed to the nines last night for early dinner in the MDR. We also noticed that the children were really dressed and far better behaved than some of the new adults. You're right - we saw some adorable kids all dressed up and having their photos taken with Mom and Dad. Some families turned it into A formal night. Wakepatrol Posted April 29, 2015 #1277 Share Posted April 29, 2015 That is the least of it! Jeans, yoga pants, running shoes and track suits. I was nearly knocked over in the Lido yesterday by a man in bathrobe and slippers! Whenever I mention witnessing this, I'm always met with "I've Never Seen People Dressed Like This" Perhaps your vision is impaired like mine? Rare POA1 Posted April 29, 2015 #1278 Share Posted April 29, 2015 There was a couple that was at the mariner cocktail party and lunch. They looked to be in their 70’s and had no social skills because they managed to offend everyone at the table with their mouths. I got ripped a new one from a poster on this board as he said they probably were cancer survivors . I wondered where that (the ripping) came from. sapper1 Posted April 29, 2015 #1281 Share Posted April 29, 2015 I'm finding the sailing quite pleasant this morning. The seas are not rough but there is a strong swell. I put my sea bands on last evening and have not been feeling unwell at all. It is usually quite a rough ride on this segment so this is a pleasant surprise. We are only having a fairly gentle rocking motion.

frankc98376 Posted April 29, 2015 #1284 Share Posted April 29, 2015 Yay!,, got our PG dinner changed to tonight :) Curious if Raj is the same Raj that was in PG on Oosterdam in 2013. If so he handled our wedding lunch beautifully in Seattle- great guy. Was a server at that time.
Rare kazu Posted April 29, 2015 Author #1285 Share Posted April 29, 2015 I can ask if you want. Raj is his last name and he has made it clear he prefers to be called that. The PG is fun with Franco and Clifford bantering back and forth :) Lots of laughter. Raj is very accommodating

Glad they haven't been onboard on a couple of our cruises on certain days LOL

Once again Kazu mis timed things ...booked the PG for lunch to avoid the crowds in the Lido and there are Mariners lunches today, so the Lido might not be bad. We'll enjoy our lunch just the same :)
SilvertoGold Posted April 29, 2015 #1289 Share Posted April 29, 2015 I believe this was also said on the world cruise thread about the Amsterdam. I hope this is a sign of things to come. Crew shows in the afternoon are pretty common on longer cruise. I hope this is a sign of things to come: everyone know cruising is hard work - I need to get to bed early every night! Then again, 3 pm can play havoc with afternoon naps!
Rare Scrapnana Posted April 29, 2015 #1290 Share Posted April 29, 2015 The sofa in our cabin is not that nice, very worn and stained. After the cabin crawl we realized that the cabins for 4 are different than the cabins for two. We have less of the extras that others have in lower categories. No bolster cushions, no sofa throw cushions, no sheer curtains over the verandah door, the divider drapes are duck cloth and not as nice as in the other cabins where there is some shimmer to them, even the fabric on the sofa is a lesser quality. Understandably there is no chair either. No bolsters or sofa throw cushions in my OV, either. The divider drapes only stretch about 12 inches from each wall so they wouldn't really divide the room if necessary.
Debz62 Posted April 29, 2015 #1291 Share Posted April 29, 2015 Thanks but we know that. They didn't want to go to Club Hal because of being taken to the sports deck and they don't have the clothes for these outside temperatures. The movie 2as something to fill time. We just came back to the cabin and spotted whales. What type of whales? Orcas? I imagine you're near Vancouver? Just curious because I've never been up that way this time of year and thought this would be a little early for whales.
1of401 Posted April 29, 2015 #1292 Share Posted April 29, 2015 It was pretty choppy yesterday. The whales we saw were not breaching but we could see them blow. We were told 5 hat we were a bit late to see whales in Cabo San Lucas.

You are too funny SilvertoGold when do you find time for your morning nap? Though I do agree crusing is hard work.:D:D What type of whales? Orcas? I imagine you're near Vancouver? Just curious because I've never been up that way this time of year and thought this would be a little early for whales. I would guess the Westerdam was just about at the California's northern border right now and I would also think that they were Gray Whales. PathfinderEss Posted April 29, 2015 #1295 Share Posted April 29, 2015 Just to keep all your sail away addict up to date, watching the Veendam and the Zaandam in PE today, for their departures. Zaandam going to do the Panama before heading up to Alaska. Veendam going up to Boston. According to POA it's a miserable day in PE, winds 30+ mph and a big storm system. 1of401 Posted April 29, 2015 #1296 Share Posted April 29, 2015 The Westerdam is a lovely ship and the crew are constantly cleaning her and doing regular upkeep. She is long and narrow so that presents some interesting layouts, IMHO. The ocean bar is split in two by the atrium, you have to walk through the shops on deck 3 to get to the Vista Lounge balcony and through the casino to get to the Vista Lounge on deck 2...but children are not allowed in the casino...this presents a bit of a logistical issue. The library and the coffee bar share the same space which is the starboard side of the crow's nest. If anyone wants a quiet library then they won't find it here. Don't mistake my comments as complaints -they are not. Just issues I identified over the last 18 days. We have very much enjoyed this cruise and would book the ship again. I only saw the Spurs, a bit of tale slapping and a couple jumping so I can only guess that you are most likely right. Not a whale expert by any means. SilvertoGold Posted April 29, 2015 #1300 Share Posted April 29, 2015 You are too funny SilvertoGold when do you find time for your morning nap? Though I do agree crusing is hard work.:D:D Oh, I know, it can be a hard, busy day trying to fit it all in. Morning naps work well from 10 am to 11 am, right after the post-breakfast walk or some other really important event like Good Morning, ----dam but before the Cooking demo and lunch Afternoon naps are easy, anytime between 1 and 3 pm, before Afternoon Tea or as late as 4 pm, when Happy Hour calls! We need to cruise together so I can teach you the tricks!
