Which cruise line has the best suites?

We are planning on cruising with our 17 year old son. When he was little jr suites were fine but now we all would like a little privacy. I looked at getting him his own inside cabin but the single supplement cost is hard to swallow. I like the benefits of a suite but would prefer a separation between the two sleeping areas. Which cruise line offers a separate bedroom or sleeping area? Without breaking the bank. We are looking at Europe. Thanks for you help!

Be careful because most cruise lines only offer a curtain to separate the areas, even in suites.

 

Disney definitely has doors which make rooms as opposed to curtains in all 1BR, 2BR, and the Walt/Roy suites. Royal Caribbean only has actual doors in some of their suites, and the loft suites are wide open to the space below. The Royal on the Mariner has a solid door and second bathroom, although recent review of that suite wasn't very good (and mirrored by challenges with it a decade ago).

 

Another thing to be cautious of is some ships have an actual door, but only one bathroom accessible only from the bedroom--Some of the suites on Celebrity are like that.

 

We ran into the same problem when our son was that age and went with Disney in a 1BR. Two bathrooms and an actual door that separated the bedroom and living room.

A better question might be which ships have Family Suites. The answer would be most, but not all, cruise ships have Family Suites. HAL doesn't, for example. But RCI, Princess, Disney and most of the rest do.

Not all suites classified as "family suites" have actual doors.

Celebrity does; I don't think Carnival does.

NCL has some of the best "suite perks"..Carnival has the worst....everyone else is in-between, with the perks!

 

Many times "family suites" have a minimum number of guests required to book....usually 5....and you need to call to book them, rather than doing it online.

Most NCL ships have 2 bedroom suites. It is a small room with a separate bathroom. The Epic is now full time in Europe, and the Haven suites are great.
