Onboard Credit question

I have an OBC of $200 on the Legend. I would like to reserve dinner for two at the Chops. It cost $30/pp. If I make a reservation online & I would like to use the OBC, how is it done? I understand in a normal situation, your credit card will be billed immediately for the dinner reservation.

 

Can someone please advise what needs to be done to pay for dinner with OBC?

OBC is exactly that - you use it onboard ship and not before. The only way you could use it for Chops is to reserve once you board. Otherwise, as you know, your credit card will be charged.

Just make chops one of your fist stops when you board. You will be fine finding a time that you want.

I think this would work too....Some OBC if not used is refunded in cash at the end of your cruise. (My points earned OBC was) If this is the case, you could use your card to pay and just NOT spend that amount of your OBC, which would be refunded at the end of your cruise.

Yes, and I agree with bumbletigger - while most of the passengers will be busy exploring the ship and eating their lunch in Windjammer, you should have no problem heading straight to Chops to reserve your special dinner in person. :)

If you have OBC that is not refundable, you can get cash in the casino, with a 5% charge. Last cruise I had $100 in non-refundable OBC, and there was nothing I wanted to spend it on. So, I got $100 cash, for which I was charged $5. I think that any charges made onboard are paid for by whatever OBC you have, before they apply them to your credit card (assuming you have given them a credit card to cover your charges). When I made the reservation for next February, I was told that they were no longer making My Time diners prepay gratuities. So the OBC that came with my reservation will cover the gratuities and internet access - with maybe a little left over to cash in at the casino.

Yes, go to the cashier and ask for cash against your onboard account. They will charge you 5% above what you ask for.

OBC from a travel agent is usually refundable.

 

OBC from Royal (like from booking a cruise onboard) is usually not refundable.

Yes, what you bought will be refundable but if RCI have offered OBC as an incentive to book then these are the ones that are not refundable. There are other cases where the OBC is non refundable but when you purchase it from RCI, it definitely IS refundable.

The casino does not care if you have OBC. They just charge your onboard account. At the end of your cruise, OBC is applied to charges and you owe any outstanding balance.

Another thing that might cause you unnecessary distress is that OBC does not normally show on your cruise account until 24 hours after you have sailed. So it will not be showing when you get on board for that first night. Check after the 24 hour period, it should be on your account. If not, complain and make sure customer service knows about it. Your invoice from RC should show that amount on it, so make sure you have a copy somewhere (electronic or print).

 

You will be charged for the dinner at the time. The OBC will cover it later on your shipboard account of purchases.
