triptolemus Posted April 17, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 17, 2015 (edited) Neither did NCL. Just experienced the classic phone call to NCL... where you make two calls and get two different answers. First rep told me, yep, ship makes it from Ketchikan to Victoria in 13.5 hours... Second rep realized that makes no sense. Guess we'll wait to book our Victoria excursions until NCL figures out where and when the ship will be... SHOREX page... CONFIRMATION.pdf... calex Posted April 17, 2015 #6 Share Posted April 17, 2015 (edited) Looks like arithmetic accuracy is not a job requirement for NCL phone agents.... Use conventional math to solve the following word problem: A cruise ship leaves Ketchikan on Friday at 1:30 PM and arrives in Victoria on Saturday at 6:00 PM. Assuming no clock changes are required, how many hours does it take? Not tough to come up with 28.5 hours... not sure how the NCL rep could come up with 13.5 hours. Solararc Posted April 17, 2015 #8 Share Posted April 17, 2015 The inside passage has amazing southbound currents, we call it the cruise ship race track, if watching one vessel going north and one going south, you will notice the southbound vessel is sailing twice as fast, we believe this is caused by the overwhelming urge of cruise line to pick up the "fresh money" waiting on the other end, ( FYI this statement is false) *Living large one week at a time*
hawkeyetlse Posted April 17, 2015 #9 Share Posted April 17, 2015 It is really not the phone reps' fault that someone else at NCL fed the wrong port times into the system for your cruise, resulting in the wrong selection of excursions being offered for your stop in Victoria. The phone reps are trained to believe the computer, and even if the computer is obviously wrong, it's not like they can reprogram it themselves while you wait on the phone. But, yes, they must be ridiculed publicly for this error in the NCL database. If your ship arrives in Victoria at 6pm on September 26, you can forget about Butchart Gardens. I don't even know if they are open that late in September. I certainly would not consider paying $109 to visit the gardens in the dark, with no fireworks. Think of something else to do that evening. TATraveler Posted April 17, 2015 #10 Share Posted April 17, 2015 The venues at port are some of the most interesting. You may be as happy staying there as you would going to "the gardens", considering how much time you (don't) have. Just a thought.

Let's keep it in perspective and remember that I'm not blaming the phone agents. I'm citing NCL's incompetence. But I do appreciate knowing how you would spend your $109... that's helpful. Somewhere that computer spits out an itinerary that puts 13.5 hours between Ketchikan and Victoria. I can imagine the captains laughter when he reads it. Starry Eyes Posted April 17, 2015 #12 Share Posted April 17, 2015 As the excursion is scheduled to leave before the ship is scheduled to arrive, the excursion is obviously incomparable wit the itinerary. An obvious issue,so astute observers will notpre book that excursion. Anybody who does pre book it will at some point find their excursion cancelled and refunded. Simple clerical error...they happen all the time to all sort so businesses.

Actually the meeting time of the Butchart Garden excursion, last year was slightly before the official "dock" time. :) The shore excursion staff were escorting them off at 7am- had their own line. so their meeting time was prior to the 7pm. where we were camped out near the front. line actually opened a little earlier than 7pm. Rare mking8288 Posted April 18, 2015 #16 Share Posted April 18, 2015 (edited) I swear to god your post assumes my head is in the sand. Does anyone have a sense of humor anymore? :D I was thinking, maybe they will charter the 'Victoria Clipper' to speed up transit time between Ketchikan and Victoria  For extra charges - floatplane for those booked on shorex, maybe ?? - Are you sure, however, you will be walking thru the Garden at night as according to the official schedule posted - it closed at 5 PM for that time of the year. - Maybe, maybe - NCL has a special arrangement in place ?? Or, else, you might well be staring a the garden's gates & fences while touring its grounds on the outside, LOL. Footnote - the Victoria Clipper is a high speed passenger only ferry service that normally run between Seattle & Victoria ... as for the Passage, :p - I don't think so. I certainly realize that you were attempting to be clever and to demonstrate NCL's incompetence. If I judged as incompetent every company and person that commits a clerical error, the list of incompetents would be impossibly long. Of course, as my own name would be on that list, I'd lack standing to judge, so the list would go to the shredder.

Cedricandsophie Posted April 18, 2015 #21 Share Posted April 18, 2015 I won't comment in the excursion time...obviously not well proofed. But If you have never been to Victoria, it is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It doesn't get really dark there until very late. I'd check sunset times. And you could easily take a taxi to the gardens and spend an hour or two walking around assuming the light lasts. The taxi ride is about 25 to 30 min depending on traffic. We have been to Victoria many times. You could visit the Fairmont Princess hotel and walk around and have a drink in the Bengal bar which is very cool. Walk around the harbor and enjoy the street musicians and sea planes flying in and out. It is the capital of BC and their version of the capital building is gorgeous, especially lit up at night. Great little seafood joints along the harbor. It is truly a magical city. The gardens are incredible so I hope you get there but the rest of Victoria is equally magical. zqvol Posted April 19, 2015 #23 Share Posted April 19, 2015 Some one must be really petty and mad at NCL for taking the time to post something as stupid as this. Anyone with half a brain realizes that sometimes mistakes are made with the thousands of shore excursion posts that NCL maintains daily. If people are so upset with NCL, go find another cruise line to sail on.

I read your response twice and have concluded that if you realize that sometimes mistakes are made and you further believe that the topic is stupid and petty, then the person with half a brain, who belittles and calls someone vile names, must be you.
