We are going on the Regatta with Oceania to Alaska. We will be in Skagway, Alaska on Sunday, May 24, 2015. Has anyone taken an independent White Pass train ride from there for the day?

Yes...many have. Try contacting "Chilkoot" they have many options. We used them for a bus up train down the last few May cruises that we stopped in Skagway.

BTW, there are numerous trip reports that include Skagway and the train. Look in the STICKY near the top of the page. In the 2014 list, go to the last page where Cornishpastyman posted a video of the train excursion. Also on the last page is a thread that compares the train vs car rental which includes lots of photos.

Yes, many times. There are three different train options, so be sure to look at the details. Two are available with various combo tours.

 

In addition to Chilkoot I highly recommend Dyea Dave. This company runs an excellent tour- with some differences from others.

ninip60: Are you asking if folks have booked the WP&YRR independent of any tour group? We have just walked into the WP&YRR office and booked the day of the trip directly with the company. We had checked their website so knew departure times and trip length.
