I Luv Crusin Posted November 4, 2006 #101 Share Posted November 4, 2006 I smoke occasionally in my cabin, but only in the bathroom with the door closed. Ok, it sounds crazy, but the vent in the bathroom takes care of the smoke...problem solved. :) kitty I've never had good venting in any of the bathrooms on the ships I've been on. I wish there was an exhaust fan! It might be vented but I've never seen it work well.
Mrsosci Posted November 5, 2006 #102 Share Posted November 5, 2006 Lesley, We sailed the Liberty in June with a room midship and bottom. We too had night noise problems. It sounded like someone chipping away with hammer and chisel. It started about 2Am until 5Am. We complained to Purser and it was stopped. They even checked daily to make sure it was still stopped. There was other noises and vibrations, especially when going in to dock. We will never book the bottom deck again.
maynovmom Posted November 5, 2006 #103 Share Posted November 5, 2006 We sailed last year on the 6th floor of the Triumph and I had a noise problem too. We were over the promenade deck and had to listen to the singer in the area til she was done. I didn't complain-what could I do? But we are not going to go on the upper deck again. It wasn't terrible but I don't want that again.
Prairie_Gal Posted January 19, 2007 #104 Share Posted January 19, 2007 You all have me kind of nervous. OK, really nervous! This will be our first cruise (me, DH, and our two sons), and my DH is a light sleeper. We are booked on the Liberty, rooms 6281 & 6283, which are above Fashion Boulevard. I am guessing this is the shops? Has anyone had either of these rooms? What was it like at night? Is there anything else that goes on in that area at night? What are The Garden and Formalities because they are adjacent to our cabin as well. Thanks for your help. We are spending quite a bit of money for four of us to fly from Canada, and have balcony rooms and I don't want it ruined by DH being cranky because he can't sleep. We are not night owls! truecruiser Posted January 19, 2007 #106 Share Posted January 19, 2007 ... I will only book rooms that are sandwiched between other rooms from now on. Great rooms for people who are up all night but not us. Diito to that. it pays for a cabin assignment if this is a consideration. like you said, this is no problem for those who will be out and about at those hours. flycatcher06 Posted January 19, 2007 #107 Share Posted January 19, 2007 If I were you i would try to move up one floor - there seemed to be alot less complaints. We were in 6319 and i have to say the noise did not come from below - it came from outside the room, it was like there was no soundproofing in the room. I wish that we had switched because it did put a damper on our vacation and we did lose alot of sleep!
flycatcher06 Posted January 19, 2007 #108 Share Posted January 19, 2007 If i were you i would switch cabins alot of people on our floor had noise issues. There did not appear to be any soundproofing in our room and the noise came from outside the room not from below or above. We lost alor of sleep and we had a crying child next door which sounded like it was in our bed it was horrendous. I have been on 12 cruises and never had a problem like this. I wish i had listened and paid the extra $100. pp to switch.
ConquestCruiser Posted January 19, 2007 #109 Share Posted January 19, 2007 i also have two rooms on the 3/18/06 cruise on the liberty ..upper deck rooms- floor 6 , room numbers 6453 and 6449. Does anyone know about the noise level within these rooms. They are at the back of the ship over the victoria lounge.:p We were in 6454 on the Conquest above the Degas Lounge and rarely heard any noise......I did however stay up pretty late, no compliants.....bring ear plugs just in case! redskin80 Posted January 19, 2007 #110 Share Posted January 19, 2007 We were in 6312. Not above the disco. but we heard everything in the casino--all the slots sounded as if they were in our room! We didn't complain, though. Just stayed up late, spend time on the balcony, and went to the casino ourselves! We had the same cabin for our Liberty Med cruise, yes the first night was bad with the casino, I went to the pursers desk , they checked to see if they had any cabins that we could be moved to ,but the ship was full so they gave me ear plugs, and asked the casino manager to lower the ringers after 10:00 pm. We did not hear them the rest of the 12 days. We also received a very nice letter of apology and 4 drink coupons.
aleone Posted January 19, 2007 #111 Share Posted January 19, 2007 Thank you so much for the noise info. I just called Carnival and upgraded from deck 6 to deck 7 on my 11/25 Conquest cruise. I never would have known about the problem without your post.
flycatcher06 Posted January 19, 2007 #112 Share Posted January 19, 2007 Just for the record I am talking about first hand experience on the Carnival Liberty - I used ear plugs, martinis and sleeping pills and was still awakened and i am not a light sleeper nor have i ever had a problem - there is definitely something wrong on this floor on this ship - i have no idea about the Carnival Conquest. DqALEX Posted January 19, 2007 #113 Share Posted January 19, 2007 Sometimes and upgrade is not really and upgrade. I can see going from and inside to a balcony or a balcony to a suite, but a higher cabin is not always better.
taylorray Posted September 24, 2011 #114 Share Posted September 24, 2011 My fiance and I will be cruising next month on the Valor room 6355 for our honeymoon. Aplmac Posted September 24, 2011 #116 Share Posted September 24, 2011 This is exactly what we experienced on the Conquest in room 6363. I will only book cabins that are sandwiched between other cabins from now on. If you do Deck Plans like I do...you'll notice that Suites are always on Deck 7 or whatever deck it is where they are sandwiched between a deck of cabins under them and a deck of cabins over them! . klmorg Posted September 24, 2011 #117 Share Posted September 24, 2011 check the deck plands and see what's above you! Or below you, as with the OP's experience.
cmorie Posted September 25, 2011 #118 Share Posted September 25, 2011 Congratulations! Why did you dig up such an old thread? I'm actually a little thankful this old thread was brought up. With all my searching on here I didn't see this. We're going on the Destiny and are on Deck 6...and right over the casino so it was interesting to read these comments. However 9 times out of 10 we'll be up late anyway so I'm not too concerned with the casino noise but an informative thread I maybe wouldn't have seen before my cruise. RuthlessBoss Posted September 25, 2011 #122 Share Posted September 25, 2011 And I'll be on deck 6 in Dec. on Liberty. I saw my balcony location (actually got a great price and moved there from another location) But, ALL I saw was nearness to an elevator which is sorta midship, with destination being buffet and smoking area. Never saw what was below me, which turns out to be O2 club and over a 24 hour arcade. I'm keeping the cabin, I already paid once for that upgrade, and ease of getting to my destination. As for noise, if there is any, I at least am more prepared for it if it happens now that this thread came up.
Crusin Hogs Posted September 26, 2011 #123 Share Posted September 26, 2011 Anyone know of noise problems on Glory 6368 ? What is below this room?
GlendaleCruiser Posted September 26, 2011 #124 Share Posted September 26, 2011 We just returned a few weeks ago from the Conquest and we were in room 2369 it was an ocean view room and every night or shall I say early morning around 5am I would awaken to a screeching noise and I never could figure out what it was. This was my first cruise and it really freaked me out because it sounded like the boat was scraping up against something but I never complained about it,,, just wondering if anyone else has ever heard this noise? (my hubby says it was just me being over nervous on my first cruise , but he could sleep through an explosion so he never heard the noise) Not sure what it was but your cabin is directly under the galley so it must have had something to do with cooking or moving of carts. oldsarge Posted December 16, 2011 #125 Share Posted December 16, 2011 I know this is rather late but I posted my noise complaint in another forum. Most people slammed me for not doing my 'research' before booking a cabin. Well, one of the last things you think about is what's above you. I was in cabin 8316 or whatever on the Liberty and it was right below the Lido deck where people sit at tables. All day and night people were moving furniture across the deck. My walls actually vibrated. People said I was nuts. I complained and had three ship's officers visit my cabin to validate my complaint, which they did. The ship was full, so no other cabins to move me to. I would say on that seven day cruise I must have slept a total of 10 hours. I informed Carnival that it really wasn't their fault as the builders failed to put insulation between the decks. And since Carnival is known as a party line anyway, I suppose most people don't mind the noise in the wee hours. I can take the drunks down the passageway but not the constant noise above me. I DIDN'T ask for compensation, yet some people said I didn't deserve any and some said I shouldn't have requested it. Dumb nuts. They did give me a paltry refund of $86.00 and 10% off another cruise. Needless to say I won't be sailing Carnival again. It's good to have a forum where people can report good and bad cabins on certain ships. If you get Deck 8, be darn sure you are not directly below the Lido midships. I heard people say they heard noise in the buffet area as well, but that area has carpet. There are also galleys there too. We sailed the Victory on Deck 10 and it was beautiful. Here's a website for you to check your cabin locations - above and below. http://www.cruisedeckplans.com - it allows you to SLIDE one deck over the other. A subscription fee is a good investment.
