No More CAS Discounts for Haven?

OK, so I'm curious if anyone else has heard this as well. I ran a quick search but couldn't find anything - Casino's at Sea has indicated they can no longer offer a casino rate discount on the suites on any NCL ship where it is considered Haven class after January 1st, 2015.

I'm relatively shocked by this - after all, doesn't it seem like Casino guests who book Haven would be inclined to also spend the most in the Casino? They mentioned that *maybe* could I get an inside comp suite then upgrade to Haven for some x random amount, but this is far more hassle.

Has anyone else seen this? Any thoughts in general? If there's another thread please do let me know. Very disappointed since CAS was so great last time.

PS - they did mention they can still discount haven through TR (Harrah's). But given that that doesn't offer rewards points, nor is the discount as high as the previous discount, doesn't seem to make much sense.

I am not sure where this is coming from...but for the record, we were on a 10 day Carribean cruise in April and just booked a 12 day for October again in the Haven - all booked through CAS and with amazing discounts!

And this is just by virtue of our play on board as our land based casino of choice is the Wynn Hotel and they do not have any deals or discount opportunity with NCL.

So I am not sure where you received this information as my latest booking was two days ago....and again. In the Haven.

Hi Chloemonkey,

This was received directly from a call-in to Casino's at Sea this morning. They said that my play was just fine for any other rooms, but Haven was no longer covered under the new Casino's at Sea policy. I don't believe it was related to play, since the rep also indicated the amount needed for me to book a comp inside cabin and they had an exact calculated total loss potential off my last cruise.

I was as surprised as you were! :(

I was told the same thing when booking a cruise in February for Oct. 2016. I usually only qualify for a 20% discount or a comp inside. I was booking a suite on the Star and, when they priced it, it was for a comp inside and the upgrade charge. I wouldn't have qualified for any of the promotions, UBP, UDP, etc. They told me they weren't discounting suites any longer. I asked if the TR Diamond discount would work so that's what they gave me, 20% off and I got all the promotions.

Higher points needed to get a comped OV now too!,

We think the "good ole days are gone". We are very happy we already have two cruises booked, as we usually do not plan far in advance...but the specials pulled us in. Now let's hope no more new fees, charges, or " convience' fees coming

I was also told there was no discount any more when I called to book a Haven suite in Feb this year. I am always comped a balcony through CAS, then upgrade to a suite. This year, when you throw in the beverage and dining package, $300 OBC (and an extra $250 OBC from the TA), it was cheaper overall to book the suite straight out than to upgrade the comp. When I realized that, I called my CAS rep back and asked about the discount. That's when she let me know that 'management had wised up' and no longer offered them. :(

So, they mentioned TR to me as well, but then you don't get the latitude rewards (though I'm not sure the latitude rewards are really anything to write home about...)

It seems like an awfully silly policy change to stop giving discounts to people who are likely to spend a significant amount in the casino (if they are getting a suite) to nickel and dime over the 20%. Annoying at best.

Point of clarification -- CAS no longer will "discount" suites. But if your play is sufficient, they still will comp a Haven suite, and allow you to upgrade, with all promos, to a higher level suite.

I don't understand why some of you are having trouble upgrading to a suite. I am comped mini's and in the past 3 weeks I have booked and upgraded two cruises(one 7 and one 10 day) from my mini's to suites(one haven and one regular suite). Maybe there are no upgrades from insides,ov's and balconies, I don't know.

You can upgrade from any comp (from insides to mini-suites), the difference is the cost and the fact that you can't take advantage of price drops based on CAS's crazy calculations.

I took advantage of a price drop last week on a suite of $960 (though drop was really $1200) but that was a percentage discounted room. I would have no idea how to figure out what I would be entitled to if any (as the original comp category may have dropped at the same time negating any true savings)

There are definitely upgrades from those categories. After my first cruise with NCL, I was comped an oceanview, which I upgraded to a suite. After that cruise, I was comped a balcony, which I upgraded to a suite. After that sailing, I was again comped a balcony which I asked to upgrade to a suite. The cost was obscene - almost the same cost as booking it outright, with less perks (due to the promotion at the time). So I don't think anyone is having trouble upgrading per se, we're just pointing out that CAS is definitely making some changes with regards to upgrades and the now defunct suite discounts.

a) you can upgrade TO anywhere FROM any comp.

b) you can get discounts %-based off any cabin which is NOT a suite.

c) you CAN take advantage of future price drops on comps...I just saved $2700 (between 2 of us). Just ask when you're booking what the Cost Basis is for the comped cabin, and what the price of the upgraded cabin is (net of NCF) and then keep an eye on the Comp and the Upgrade cabins for when the delta dips below your purchase price.

OP I'm not sure why it's "too much hassle" to let them buy you a free cabin....and then let you upgrade it. It would probably cost less than the previous discount used to cost you.

I've always gotten latitude points using total rewards. Is this something new?

Upgrading wasn't the problem. I wouldn't have gotten the freestyle choice packages though since the comp was an run. inside so I used the TR discount. It cost a little more but will be less in the long
