daiB Posted May 6, 2015 #51 Share Posted May 6, 2015 I doubt if there will be any mention from P&O until the last minute remember Artemis? Selling a viable operating ship is something P&O will not shout from the rooftops, this is an sale that will be In total confidence both to the seller and purchaser. I doubt if P&O will have a lot of trouble in selling - Oriana size would fit in nicely with say Thomson and Fred Olsen. As to the asking Price UKL£133mil - not to over the top, but I suspect it will drop subject to negotiation. Bear in mind Royal Princess Class No 5 is earmarked for P&O circa 2017. (I wonder if the design will be slightly altered to include a proper Promenade Deck by then . P&O - UK / Holland America / NCL / RCI / Carnival / Costa (slight mistake) Princess (Elite).............Ship Historian (training):) Well apart from the fact they are not selling. The last thing they would do is to sell to a UK cruise line. Oriana has many regular cruisers and P&O would be passing over their customers with the ship. That's not going to happen. Britboys Posted May 6, 2015 #52 Share Posted May 6, 2015 It never ceases to amaze me that there is a small band of people who seem desperate to hear the news that P&O are selling Oriana. They have been certain that she is on her way out for the last couple of years. She may be the oldest ship in the fleet but she is still very popular. Whenever they do sell her they will want to give a season's notice at least because they will be able to sell her cruises for that season 3 times over! If we must have another second-hand Carnival Corp ship to replace her whenever that is, it is more likely to come from Princess and personally I would prefer Coral or Island Princess. A little bigger than Oriana but still smaller than Grand Princess.
MattyBarlow Posted May 7, 2015 #53 Share Posted May 7, 2015 Bear in mind Royal Princess Class No 5 is earmarked for P&O circa 2017. We would know about that if that were the case. I haven't heard any such ear marking? Where does that come from?
Britboys Posted May 7, 2015 #54 Share Posted May 7, 2015 Royal Class No 4 is due in 2017 for Princess, to be based in China. On that basis, I don't think there will be a fifth Royal Class launching the same year. Carnival Corp have also agreed in principle to place an order with Fincantieri for 5 ships to be delivered between 2019 & 2022.
NSWP Posted May 8, 2015 #55 Share Posted May 8, 2015 Well I hope Oriana is still around on 20 Oct this year, when we embark on Voyage X521. P & O Australia gets many older Carnival Corp shjps, who knows, Oriana may be part of that fleet in a year or two.
