Norwegian Cruise Line Bans Food Outside of Dining Areas

I'm not trying to be either, but it's true a common thing you were hear when you are getting ready for a cruise as you don't spend a lot of time in your room anyway. When people say that what do you say back? we spend a whole bunch of money just to stay in our room?

I do spend a lot of time in my room. I've had a very stressful past several years helping to take care of my elderly parents and also helping our daughter support and raise her infant son. So when we go on a cruise it's my time to relax and let someone else take care of me. And my way of relaxing is sitting on my balcony with a cup of coffee or iced tea and enjoying the sound of the ocean as it goes by. So yes we pay a whole bunch of money to spend time in our room!

I guess I'm one of the few that pays for an interior and stretches my legs everywhere else in the public areas since I paid for the ship amenities to be out and around instead of being cooped up in a cabin. (If I want to be cooped up all day long, my apartment has way more features like Netflix without paying ship's extra wifi charges :p) But to each they own - paying for a balcony that one can't eat on anymore during lunch / dinner and me enjoying sitting in the outdoor grill while enjoying my food at all times. :)

That would be difficult to choose since none of the others have this policy.

Sometimes the room is the best place to avoid drunk, obnoxious, 31 year old know-it-all's, you know the type. ;)

The whole point of a cruise is drinking, when I went on my first cruise I couldn't believe how great the buffet was and it was all free. I asked one of the employees with all this free food how do you make your money? And he look at the bar and pointed

You're single and young.....you have a lot to learn. However, there is no right way or wrong way to spend one's time on a cruise.

Honeymooners may spend MOST of their time in their room, enjoying themselves and their balcony. (They can do that at home too, right?)

Others may spend MOST of their in the Casino. (They can do that at home too, right?)

Others may spend MOST of their time at the pool. (They can do that at home, too, right?

Others may spend MOST of their time at the bar. (They can do that at home, too, right?

What one does on THEIR cruise or where one goes on THEIR cruise is not for you or anyone else to judge.

You're not married, not engaged don't have small children....so you don't understand and can't understand why or how some might spend more time in their cabin then you will. You're on the prowl....LOL Others aren't.

Harriet

Those are fair points , but miss Harriet do you spend most of your cruise in the room? As far as the pool goes I guess it depends where you live if you can sit by the pool at home, but yes you can spend most of your time sitting in your room at home for free. one of the arguments that a lot of the cruise consultants make on why it's okay to get a small room is you won't be in there much anyway. You can't tell me you've never heard that said before?

Well maybe NCL and Princess should do a better job of collecting dishes. I don't recall seeing ANY on Oasis last week... Or anything worse than a scattered dish here or there on my most recent Celebrity cruise... Or, heck, even on my NCL cruise last fall.

I've never sailed Princess, nor do I have any intention to. With that said, please come back here and let us all know when Princess (which apparently has this appalling issue in your experience) institutes this same policy. I won't be holding my breath...

No I think this new policy if enacted will do a great job of that.

Wow...even more epic stuff.

Free :D The buffet is free...priceless

Yep, can't imagine why no one wouldn't agree with that brilliance.

I am the same way, I'm usually hardly ever in my room lol. I am booked for the escape and the new shows look awesome. they all seem like can't miss shows, I will feel bad for the fuddy duddies that want to stay in their room but you are right to each his own, everybody who paid for the trip should be able to do what they want.

Oh, I'm sure you'll pick one and complain about that line as well. I'm sure of it - in the meanwhile, continue beating the dead horse and boohooing how that ruin your entire vacation (there's alot more to a cruise vacation than just eating on your balcony ) since NCL is not backing down from the policies.

And gambling plus the shopping sales of alcohol bottles and jewelry, bags and other stuff. (Made Christmas shopping so easy and stress free :)) The free shows, sundeck, waterfront and port stops are a nice added bonus, lol.

When is payday from NCL?

Do you and him get paid by commission based on pro NCL posts?

Not my fault you and your spouse are upset with the new policies - Again, why don't you just pick another line to enjoy yourselves instead of being miserable on line that's not forcing you do anything.

Do you get commission from other cruise lines for disparaging another line that you haven't sailed on in a while? Because you sound like it.

I do find it interesting that those of us who do not adamantly oppose the new policies are attacked and thought to be working for NCL:eek:

Everyone has different reasons for cruising. Some of us have never even thought of taking food to our cabin. After all, most people gain a lot of pounds due to the availability of food 24/7 on cruise ships.

Looking forward, passengers can budget for the times they want to use room service. I understand how romantic it can be to sit on your balcony and either drink coffee or an alcoholic beverage with your food. Speaking only for myself, we do not eat on our balcony every day - on any cruise. IMO, having room service for those special occasions is really not very costly. I know -- it is a matter of principle -- room service had no cost until recently. If money were an issue, could you not purchase some snacks and non-alcoholic beverages in port -- enough to last you for several days? That is what we do on "land" vacations when we want to sit out on the balcony of our hotel (although in hotels, the beverages are not non-alcoholic:-).

I also think about the cost of one or two alcoholic drinks compared to the price of one room service. The new policy isn't clear to me in terms of whether there is a $7.95 fee if you order food and an alcoholic beverage. Would appreciate clarification.

Thanks!

Why? Because we choose to only vacation and talk about cruise lines we like and not complain like 2 year olds.

If people complaining about the policy bothers you so much then do not click on the post. I mean if I do not care to read something I just move on. Every time I come on here I see you bashing people for speaking their mind about the policy. If people want to protest a policy then let them do so. Its not going to effect you either way. This country was created by people who complained like "two year olds".

OK, here you go. From the terms & conditions printed on the bottom of the new room service menu:

"Complimentary continental breakfast and orders that include special occasion and/or non-complimentary beverage items are exempt from the $7.95 convenience charge."

Seems pretty clear.

Well said, people should be able to enjoy their vacation anyway they please. You paid for the cruise so you should be able to enjoy the food on your balcony anytime you please. Some people are not happy unless they are controlling how others think and live.

Saying the people who don't care about this work for NCL is a little much. You are certainly entitled to your opinion and if you don't do take out to eat in your cabin, then i can understand why you wouldn't care about this.

But i do have a problem with those who say that those of us who are unhappy are "complainers" who need to "get over it" or that we just aren't doing cruising the "right way". If we don't like something, we need to speak up and we have the right to do that. If enough people speak up, the cruise line may back down. I do find it surprising that some folks are so willing to just accept these types of fees/changes.

Whew, the longest post you have made to date. Naturally quantity did not equal quality. Better at drive by posting rather than convincing others that your way of cruising is the only way to cruise.

LOL good for you Legion3, don't let the keyboard bullies bully you. I like your style. :)
