As a 1st time cruiser we went on the Silhouette, Eastern Caribbean 1st March. I'm not sure how high people set the bar but I couldn't fault it really. The ship was spotless, staff were attentive/extremely helpful, and the food was terrific. We must have enjoyed it, we are doing the Western Caribbean next year!

Thank you so much for this thread! Yes, it has been quite negative around here lately, but I will not focus on that point!

We love Celebrity, it is our favorite major cruise line. We intend to cruise on Celebrity 3-4 times annually once we are retired.

As far as perfection goes, there is no such thing. If there is a small glitch during our sailing, we easily overlook it and focus on the sunsets, the food, the service, the blue sky, moon, stars and ocean view from our balcony. Not to mention the smiles from ship staff and fellow passengers. Met some very nice people along the way too.

Don't let the negative nellies affect your excitement. They probably wish they were going on a cruise soon too...... or may have one or two or three booked this year, and just thrive on complaining. It's an addiction for some, you know?

Happy cruising!

Susan

I love Cruise Critic, and it's been a few years since DH and I have been on a cruise, and no offense meant, but the threads seem SO negative. I would like this one to please focus on your positive Celebrity experiences, to help us get that cruise excitement back for our 2017 cruise. I know that it's not all negative, so let's see what y'all have:)

I agree with you 110 percent. Then I look at the name of the board and it's CRUISECRITIC!!! I guess a lot of people take that literally.

As one of our Ship Captain's said in the middle of the Atlantic (in 30 ft seas), "If you WANT to have a good time, you WILL".

This is a refreshing thread to read on this Monday here in the office.

Thank you all for taking the time to comment and to share your feedback!

It's a stat holiday in Canada, and I can assure you it's just as lovely to read the positive comments from the comfort of the living room sofa as we watch Border Security on TV. :)

I agree with all those who say a day on a (Celebrity) ship is better than just about anywhere else! I just got off the Equinox transatlantic after sailing with a grandchild and consider myself fortunate beyond measure for having had the experience of sharing these memories with him. He helped many pax to learn how to play Xbox games down in Quasar, asked a lecturer questions about his subject and many pax went out of their way to speak with him, at dinner and on the decks. Staff even welcomed him back onboard by name. Thanks Celebrity! I'll be back, but just give me a bit of time to recover.

How nice to have all the good things to look forward to! I don't usually read and post on Cruise Critic unless we have a cruise booked, so when we do I come here all excited and usually after reading a few threads I'm thinking "oh great - was this a mistake?" Over the years we've had the odd glitch, but sometimes it seems that the complaints just never stop coming. One woman had me convinced that I would be throwing myself overboard over an Oasis cruise a couple of years ago - turned out that it was marvelous. In such a dreary world, it's nice to read some positive comments.

Appreciate that you are paying attention (as needed and merits such action) to the various comments, rants and expressions placed on these Cruise Critic threads.

My view, as the on-line info grows in value and use, that any good managers at key cruise lines monitors these various postings to sample what is being said, liked, pointed out for improvement, etc. Don't expect any and all complaints to be immediately fixed. If there were not spirited debates on dress codes, food quality, smoking, etc., what would some folks have to complain about?? Plus, some want and expect each cruise to be twice as good at half of the price. All of the cruise lines need to compete in a challenging travel/entertainment market environment, plus pay off the BIG mortgages for these mega-million-dollar cruise ships. That German shipyard did not build these $700,000,000 ships for free.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Enjoyed a 14-day, Jan. 20-Feb. 3, 2014, Sydney to Auckland adventure, getting a big sampling for the wonders of "down under” before and after this cruise. Go to:

We were just looking at a train trip (I probably can't use names here) across the Rockies, and holy sticker shock, Batman!

I've done this particular train trip in the past (part of a work excursion where I didn't pick up the tab) so I'm familiar with the experience and would choose a cruise over the train trip any time if cost were relatively similar. But. The train trip is significantly more expensive.

So there's that. Really good value for your vacationing dollar.

In a month, we'll get back onto the Summit to Bermuda for our fourth time. We'll enjoy the fabulous crew, the great food, and NO WORK for a week. A week on the beautiful Celebrity Summit as the Captain describes it, what else could we ask for? Oh, and two scuba dives!

Why ruin a wonderful vacation worrying about towels and such? (Now, if we could just stop the chair hogs every morning... ) :)

What a nice thread! My husband and I are going on our first cruise with 8 other family members. We started to dread it after reading so many negatives. We are taking teenagers and won't be dressing up so all we could imagine after reading CC was disaster. We booked 5 Aqua cabins to avoid formal nights.

We reserved scuba diving all 3 days in Bermuda and after reading these positives are starting to look forward to a nice week.

  • 2 weeks later...

I love this thread with so many positives! My 89 year old mother who pays for us all to cruise either - called today with a question they couldn't answer and upgraded her from Aqua 2 deck 12 to 6125 ss2. She is thrilled!!

Hi this thread is a great idea. We are all so lucky being able to sail on these beautiful ships. We've just paid the final balance today and can't wait to board the Equinox in 63 days -woohoo. This will be our 4th cruise so we are still considered newbies but we look forward to our cruises all through the UK winters. Enjoy everyone:)

Fantastic feeling of entering an almost surreal world when you finally get on the boat.

Trying not to think how bad it feels to get back to reality when leaving the boat on last day-[emoji23] But I Can always look at the details of the forthcoming CelX boat trip that we booked onboard [emoji41][emoji485]
