CS and above Suite Guests - Michael's Club

Just off Summit, and never saw any snacks in Michael's Club, other than at a "Meet the Officers" party and on embarkation day. To be honest, we seldom went to Michael's Club other than to talk to Jole, and other than the one party, we were pretty much always the only ones in there. I never saw a bartender most times, and I have no idea how someone would get a drink for themselves as the cabinet beside the bar that had beer and water in it had a padlock on it (this was during the afternoon). Attendance was so low in the club that they probably pulled the bartender to another area and Jole could fetch drinks if someone needed something. We generally didn't drop by in the evenings so maybe more people went then. We had a premium drink package and didn't see much reason to hang out in Michaels, other than to talk to Jole who was very nice.

For anyone interested, when we embarked, we went to Michael's Club and were offered a light snack but no lunch. Our butler did not appear till we saw him at our cabin just before the muster drill. I had read a review by someone previously on the Summit who said that they had an embarkation lunch in Luminae but that was not the case for us. By the time we went to our cabin and unpacked, there was no lunch available so we went without. We definitely made up for it at dinner. ;) The food in Luminae is spectacular, in my opinion.

I just wanted to give anyone who expected lunch in Luminae on embarkation day a heads up - it didn't exist last week. I suspect the early sail-away makes it more difficult to provide a lunch in Luminae on turn-over day.

Brenda,

While you were gone Celebrity's poster here confirmed starting with the next cruise, the one after yours, three meals a day would be served in Luminae starting with embarkation lunch.

We do find Michael's Club busiest in the evening but don't really consider it a bar. For us, it serves the best use on port intensive touring cruises, especially with tender ports. We cab meet there for priority tendering and then tended to stop by on the way back for a refreshing drink and catch up with others.

Happy sailing,

Jenna

Thanks, Jenna. I'm glad to hear that they will start serving 3 meals a day in Blu. I found that we much prefer breakfast and lunch to brunch. As for Michaels, I was surprised that no one ever seemed to be in there. Even on the "meet the officers" night, there were maybe only 8 people total there. I imagine people without beverage packages might be more likely to go there, on different itineraries.

Oops, sorry, I meant Luminae. I don't really know the current status of lunch in either Luminae or Blu, but they could probably make a lot of people happier by just serving lunch in Blu and suggesting suite passengers eat in Blu for lunch if they like. If I'm ever lucky enough to be in a Royal Suite again, if there is no lunch in Luminae, I'll just eat in the Bistro. Last week, during a late lunch, we had the place to ourselves.

Does anyone know what the MC Concierge does that your butler couldn't do. Just wondering, no offense meant toward either position!

Gary.

Well we saw far more of the MC concierge than we saw of our butler. She got to know our excursion likes and dislikes and ensured we were made aware of special offers by the destinations concierge. She also arranged events in Michaels Club, sorted out billing issues.

Interesting question. There really are two people to look after you.

Generally we used the butler for suite based needs (changing spirits), evening special snacks, service if we dined in suite.......he also rounded up a kettle for us when my husband said how much he had enjoyed afternoon tea. He will also ensure any ironing, washing etc gets done and if there is a problem he will chase it up for you. If you leave your shoes out they will be cleaned....the butler will escort you to your theatre seat on formal night. Most importantly he brings around the afternoon tea trolley!

We are fairly undemanding guests and rarely use many of the above services but it is nice to know they are there!

We tend to use the conceirge for more ship wide issues. Booking restaurants, shore excursions, issues will charging. She will also answer any general queries and arrange (if she can) things like bridge tours. She will also keep in touch with you by telephone re Michael's Club special events. She will also be the staff member who contacts you pre cruise and will escort you off the ship at the end.

I don't know if we are using them for the right things, this just seems to be the way things have turned out!

Just noticed I have written 'he' for butler and 'she' for conceirge. There are female butlers and male concierges, post simply reflects my recent trips!

Just back from the Eclipse TA and Michael's was wonderful. Open anytime you wanted to go there, staffed all day and late into the evening. Upon embarkation they asked what our "preferred" beverages were and they were always on hand after that. Small appetizers were offered each evening before dinner along with a wonderful snack mix. We LOVED Michael's, the staff made you feel so welcome, Selvy, the bartender on the Eclipse could not have been nicer or more accommodating. We checked for breakfast one day but must have been too late. We prefer Blu anyway for breakfast. Luminae was open for breakfast only on port days otherwise had a brunch from 10:00 to 1:30 each sea day. Dinner in Luminae was superb, outstanding service... and food. The first night of the cruise was a little shakey as they were still setting the area up from dry dock at 3PM that afternoon but after the 1st night it was excellent, couldn't have been happier with what they offered or the service. Our waiter, Danijel was the best we have had on any cruise and the sommelier, Steven, was also excellent. We can't wait to go back again on Reflection TA next April!!!:D

Thanks for sharing this. It gives me an insight into what I can expect on the Eclipse in a couple of weeks. Was Fabien the MC concierge and did he e mail you before your cruise?

No Bogdan was the MC Concierge and he did NOT email ahead of cruise...but in fairness they were in drydock for the 10 days prior and were overloaded. Bogdan did a very nice job too..

Eclipse was awesome, it was BEST cruise we have ever had, just no complaints at all.....EXCEPT that we had to leave....:D

We were on the Eclipse in March found found things different from most of the above. I don't know if it was because the bartender went on vacation at the end of the cruise but it was a case of "That is what this bar has" - no effort made to get something not stocked from elsewhere at all. We didn't see any appetisers available pre dinner although we were often offered snacky stuff. May have been due to us getting there around 7.30 each night.

Generally it closed at midnight.

It sounds like each ship, even each cruise may vary in MC service, but in late January on the Reflection we enjoyed nightly canapés. One bartender in MC was in charge of having those available (covered dishes of 4 types canapés were kept in the refrigerator). We enjoyed most of them, especially the mini Beef Wellingtons and stuffed hearts of palm.

Light breakfast included nicer pastries than the MDR or Blu. I also saw people getting bagels/lox/cream cheese.

The hours for MC drinks/canapés were given to us upon boarding:

Here are a couple of examples of the canapés. One night was all sushi. When we entered MC during the hours listed above for light breakfast, we were offered the breakfast, and during the hours listed for canapés, we were offered canapés. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole MC experience and met some great people there.

Does anyone know if suites perk include free dining at the bistro ?

Royal, Penthouse and Reflection suites include unlimited free dining at ALL specialty restaurants:) Lower level suites only include Luminae.

Thank you for taking the time to clear this up for me. Last year Dominic our butler did everything and the concierge was frazzled most of the time, even with taking us off the boat. Will be on the summit again and I am quite confident we will have a ball.

Thanks

Bistro was included as a speciality so we could also dine there. Surprisingly when the specialities had their lunchtime openings (one each) on sea days that was not included although we could dine in them as many times as we liked in the evening.

How annoying these differences are! We were clearly told lunchtime specialities were not included.

It is not so much that I would have used them it is the fact that now those boarding in the next few weeks will have to check because clearly the Equinox was saying one thing and Reflection was saying another!

Communication is a great thing. All ships need to be told clearly what is/is not included then they can give us the correct information.

There's a great coffee machine too that was on eclipse last week

Where was this? My one, and only, complaint about our TA on Eclipse was the horrible coffee......really the worst coffee we've experienced on a ship in years.....by the end of the cruise I was pretty much off coffee completely....so would love to know where this machine was for future trips!!!
