Australia Top End Cruise

Recommended Posts

we have booked a cruise from Sydney to NZ this December. As it will be a long flight even from Los Angeles we want to tack on another trip with NZ cruise. Came across RCL Radiance of the Sea Nov. 17 cruise from Perth that seems interesting. Ports are in Geraldton, Bali, Darwins, Cairns, Brisbane, ends in Sydney.

I know the temperature will be in the 30 C but will it be very humid already in November? What would be the sea condition like around Indian ocean/timor sea in November?

would appreciate any comments.

thanks

We have done this cruise 3 times, it is our favourite cruise on Radiance. Previously it has been Sydney to Fremantle (Perth port), departing Sydney mid to late October and arriving in Fremantle in November. In reverse this time.

We like this cruise because the temperatures are warm, sometimes very warm and not too humid as it's only the start of the wet season in the tropics. The seas usually are very cruise friendly. Seas are sometimes smooth as silk, mostly very calm with some breezes. Occasionally we have had a day or night of choppy seas around Sydney or Geraldton.

It can be choppy on the tenders, particularly the return trips at Benoa or Geraldton if the afternoon winds are around. But we had been able to go to each port on the 3 cruises.

The Captain usually cruises close to the coast particularly from Cape York down the east coast through the Whitsunday Islands. Beautiful scenery.

Any questions, just ask as a few on here have been on this cruise and might have good information for you as well there have been some great photos posted by Gae last year.

Can Radiance get under the bridge in Brisbane?

I don't know about under the bridge, but the length is too long to do the 360 turn around in the river. Large, long ships usually berth at Fishermans Island at the grain terminal at the mouth of the river.

Thanks for all your input. It sounds like this is a good itinerary to compliment NZ cruise. We love to cruise but don't look forward to long flights.

Will do some more homework and ask questions later. Thanks

As it is a lot further to fly from California to Perth, you might like to include a stopover at Hawaii or one of the South Pacific Islands en route. In addition, you might consider spending some time in Perth, a beautiful city, prior to the cruise.

Great Suggestion! Just realized that indeed it could be another 4 - 7 hours added flight time to Perth depending where you make the connection. Will definitely pay attention to total flight time.

thanks

Thanks Megsie for mentioning my photos from our cruise from Sydney to Perth late October to early November last year! We had such smooth seas didn't we? I can't remember what title my thread was but I'll go searching then post there to bring it back near the top again!

Gae :)
