Smoking on balcony

Recommended Posts

Here we go.

I know RC has banned smoking on balcony's.

If you get cought is the fine $250?

I have no problem paying the fine, I just don't want to get kicked off the ship.

I have a Owners Suite on deck 11 on a Oasis class ship.

I like smoking cigars late night on my balcony. I almost didnot sail RC because of this new rule.

If you are a smoker hater, please don't answer, we already know how you feel.:):):)

Whilst they could give you 'another chance' not to break the rules on this policy, it is entirely at their discretion. If you break terms of the Guest Conduct Policy, they can remove you from the ship in addition to charging you the $250 fee for cleaning, after one occasion.

Is it really worth the risk?

Since I am a nonsmoker, and really like sitting on my own smoke free balcony for which I paid a premium price, and you already know how I feel and obviously don't give a darn, I won't comment. But I do have a question, let us know what happens. Inquiring minds are curious if you get fined or booted.

You probably won't get kicked off the first time they catch you and maybe not the second time but the odds are, the third time you're gone.

Cigar smell tends to linger longer than cigarette smell, so someone is going to report you. If, I was in the cabin next to you and your stinky cigar, believe me, I'd report you. Perhaps, you would have been better off sailing on a line that still allows smoking on the balcony. I believe Holland America does allow balcony cigarette smoking but even they may not allow cigars.

Even you, in your Owners Suite, may have to follow the rules or suffer the consequences.

I expect most of those people telling you you're gone don't have any first-hand knowledge. I have a friend who did smoke almost every night on a seven night cruise. Not only was he not thrown off the ship he wasn't even fined. Now he smoked only on the balcony and he had family members on the balcony on either side of his. So it is possible that no one even complained.

This man routinely pays fines at hotels cruise lines etc. he is never actually been thrown out of any place. At a hotel in Disney the maintenance man came out on balcony to fix something while he was smoking and didn't say anything to him.

I am not saying it's right, I am just saying enforcement seems spotty

Please DO NOT smoke on your balcony.

I'm not hating on you smoking, I'm just thinking about the safety of everyone else onboard.

If I see someone smoking on their balcony I will report it to guest services.

Look what happened when someone smoked on their balcony on the Star Princess. One person died, and thirteen others hospitalised for smoke inhalation...

Well I don't doubt this happened. I also don't think it's a huge risk. Cruise lines allowed smoking on balconies for years and if it was that dangerous they would not have done it. They did not stop it because of the danger they stopped it because people around the smoker didn't like it.

The big question is what would you do with the butts? Throwing/flicking them is a huge no no (see the picture above). If you put them in the bin in your cabin, your entire cabin will stink the next morning.

Ditto.

We had someone on one of our ships the room att. told us, they were taken off. The Rules didn't apply to them.......??

So, you are going to Pay the daily fine and have a great time smoking on your balcony.

Seems that plan could become a problem, otherwise others would be doing it all the time. So, RCL must have consequences.

We watched (& some folks cheered) when a family was escorted off the ship from the Penthouse Suite on a Celebrity ship a couple of years ago. The gentleman (using the term loosely) had been charged twice for smoking a cigar on the balcony. The third time security escorted the family off the ship (I believe it was in St Lucia or Grenada). Then housekeeping came & replaced all of the air filters of all the cabins six deep on either side & sent wine & strawberries to the same 12 cabins for our inconvenience. I know it happened, I watched & enjoyed the wine

FWIW, I totally understand how you feel.

That being said, I encourage you not to do it. How much enjoyment are going get from your cigar when you'll be waiting for the knock on your door?

It's to bad there is no cigar lounge on your ship. You might consider changing your reservation to either a Freedom or Voyager class. They have lounges and they are pretty nice.

You might also find other cigar smokers to enjoy a smoke under the stars with.

Regardless of your choice, enjoy your cruise.

Magic Man,

You say you have no problem paying the fine. Do you think that if you were reported and fined, you could just go on smoking if you paid the fine each time? Royal is not going to say, "sorry, man, we see you already paid, please accept our apologies for the inconvenience". Even IF it was possible to just pay a fine each time, even though I know nothing about cigars, $250 seems pricey for a cigar.

Great news! I'm going with a smoker next May and had no idea about this policy. She's a lazy smoker, if she can't go on the balcony she probably won't smoke much. The down side is...I bet the areas where people can smoke stinks, are these areas avoidable or are they places you have to walk through to get to the main areas? (Navigator of the seas)

On most ships the only indoor smoking area is one side of the casino, which you can avoid. Some ships have a smoking room (which is off to one side and you never have to pass through it). The main smoking areas are one side of the open decks, again, easily avoided

Just my 2 cents (and I didn't read all the posts).

Owners Suites are located VERY close to an elevator, I know you would rather smoke on your balcony, but why not just follow the rules. You know about the rules when you booked the room.

I just saw this information. So no one can smoke anything anywhere on Royal? We are booked on Allure next.

You can smoke cigarettes and cigars in designated areas. The casino and wherever the smoker's area is outside, usually on one of the upper decks. It's not allowed in cabins or out on balconies.

Last cruise we ignored the annoying smoker even though it forced us to close our balcony door or come inside on a few occasions.

Thanks for reinforcing that we should have called guest services every time we smelt smoke.

From a non-smoking family.

Would that be solution to set aside a few "smoking cabins" in the aft and on higher decks?

Smoke would not drift forwards and to the front.

Then charge a hefty premium.....
