I've been on NCL once so far, based on a promotional free cruise certificate from a land-based casino. It was a positive experience. Their tiered system clearly explains what you're entitled to get onboard based on your level of play.

In addition, although I've only ever had one comped cruise from Club Royale, and I can't seem to get any promotional emails from Royal Caribbean at all, I've received dozens of free cruise offers from NCL since that one cruise.

With comparable levels of play between the two (back-to-back cruises, one on NCL, one on RCI):

  • RCI gave me a ~$700 cash rebate toward my next cruise and that was it
  • NCL would have comped me a specialty restaurant plus wine, but since we had a package, they instead comped us four bottles of wine
plus wiped off several of the charges from my onboard account
and had also offered two comped cruises (concurrently booked) in balcony cabins

If it weren't for the Royal Caribbean cruise experience that I enjoy so much, I could easily see myself becoming quite loyal to NCL's Casinos at Sea.

I have to ask...:)

Why do you enjoy the RCCL experience over the NCL experience? The casino perks seem quite nice! Thanks!

Although Norwegian Getaway was a very nice ship, I felt as though it was missing certain characteristics that I've come to love especially in the Freedom and Oasis classes of ships. I love the Royal Promenade, which Getaway had... sort of, but the primary path on deck 7 was through the casino which made for a smoke-filled, somewhat maze-like experience to get from forward to aft.

I really like Royal Caribbean's venues. When I go to a place like the Champagne Bar or Olive or Twist, or even Schooner Bar to a lesser degree, I feel as though I'm enveloped in that venue, and that I'm removed from the hustle and bustle of the ship around me. On Getaway, the venues felt connected to the main thoroughfares (imagine like Schooner Bar on Voyager and Freedom class where you have the chairs and tables lining the hallway between the theater and the casino).

I did like the variety of restaurants on Getaway, but Royal Caribbean's certainly catching up to that experience with Oasis and Quantum classes.

Although I'm not an outdoorsy person and I'm not on the pool deck much, I found that it was quite crowded and packed with loungers on Getaway, while there seemed to be more room to walk around and just take a breath on Freedom and Oasis classes. Plus, Getaway only has one main pool while Freedom has three and Oasis has even more.

There are other more subtle differences. I won't hesitate to sail on NCL again given the right opportunity (and, in fact, we have a family cruise on Norwegian Escape this summer in a comped balcony cabin), but all other things being equal, I'd prefer to remain "loyal to Royal".

Thanks! I always like to hear how others rate the different lines. We did one NCL many many years ago and did not care for it at all. I'm sure it has changed somewhat since then but haven't heard much to entice me back to the line....yet. :)

Hot off the press

Apparently we will be receiving emails from CR next week, with respect to the New Program.

I was just informed that I need to check my mail when I am on the ship next week.

No date given, but let's assume it will be on the 15th

On receiving I will post on here for those who are not receiving email from CR.

That's if I decide to connect and check next week:)

Appreciate the email I receive may differ to what others receive, I.e. Tier, offers, bonuses, etc. etc..

Not long to wait now.

Well, if you do connect and are able to share the email, I'll look forward to receiving it. I wonder whether I'll find out the details from you before I would from the casino host onboard.

I sail on March 18 and it will be interesting to see what's changing.

As I was expecting the EN messed up my rebate again for the 3-4th time. Last cruise 2 weeks ago I got $450 rebate with $44 avg bet and 17 hours. This time I had $50 avg bet and also 17 hours but the rebate was $375! I asked for avg bet everytime I left the table and they had me at $50 everytime so I asked CR what they had for me. They didn't have the info. so I once again had to ask for this to be reviewed.

Meanwhile I had the $375 applied to a June 3,2017 booking and told them once the amount is changed they can change the amount on the reservation.

This almost makes me want to just go in on my cruise March 18th, for some quick wins after one day and then leave and enjoy the rest of the cruise with my wife vs. trying to play a lot of hours for casino perks.

Hi Nick

Are you saying they screwed up your rebate because it was less than last time.? There is more factor. Since we both play roulette. It's average bet x hours x actual spins. So if you were at a super busy table and had a few less spins per hour it changes your theoretical and lowers your rebate. This is why I always tip my host and go out of my way to find them. At least every other day I will review my play with the host. Of course I check my time and average with the boys in the pit but I also make a point to check with the host. Also. Your free drinks dinners etc all get posted against your comp so that can affect your comp. for example. On my last oasis. They comped my cabana at labs dee my internet and all my specialty. So instead of a 5 k rebate it was like 4350. So. Your freebies do affect things

I didn't think they count how many spins! Usually the time is accurate except one time I caught them logging me out accidentally and then 3 hours later when I left found out they never logged me back in. I have been careful to verify with pit bosses everytime I leave the table to make sure their avg bet for me is accurate. It was consistently $50/bet this time which was $8 per bet higher than last time. I actually drank less than last time and played the same time. The last night I asked the host for my stats and she told me $44 avg bet. I told her it was $50 connsistently and that was minimum bet...many were higher. She said she would check and verify.

Club Royale didn't get that info from the ship so I have no way of knowing how they figured out my rebate. They responded back only saying $375 was accurate. Oh well. At least I got a free cruise in OV as well so better than nothing.

Yes. They definitely count spins. That is how they determine how much overall money you have won/lost and bet. I sat with the casino manager on the oasis for a while a few trips back and we were talking about it.

I had a similar problem on the navigator where they had my average at $144 which made no sense since I bet between 150 and 200 per spin. Fortunately the pit boss new my average and so did the host so When I approached them they fixed it for me ultimately showing my average at 154.00

Just off Enchantment (again). Last night of cruise, host says I dont get a free cruise cert cause I "didn't lose enough money".! She said need to lose $1,800 to get an inside category free. That's utter nonsense. I got free cruises before when i won OR lost so that statement doesn't make sense. Well, in the morning there was a Free Cruise Cert. on my door, good for an Oveanview category. I applied it to my May 27 Majesty sailing, up to the Max value of $750. Now waiting on my rebate to apply to a future sailing. The host told me as long as I apply the rebate by March 15, it can be used on ANY future cruise, even in 2017.

Still no word on details of new program and we're still being told March 16. I find it hard to believe that the casino reps themselves would find out the details of the new program the day it is released. You would think that they would have a few weeks jump on us. This leads me to believe that the new program may be delayed further. This close to the new program date surely SOMEONE there would know what's coming..

By chance, do you know when they can give the $$$ amount of your rebate? Does it take a few days or a few weeks once you return home? Thanks to anyone who may be able to answer this.

Absolutely call on the 14th. It doesn't hurt to try, and it certainly may help.

Thanks! That's what my gut says I should do. :)

I'm having trouble trying to figure out what they could possibly replace the rebate benefit with? Esp after reading some have received $5000.00 in rebate money. What could they possibly comp as I am quite certain they have been offered a free cabin???? I'm getting a bit nervous with this "new and better program"

I was on the Anthem 3 nighter and before I left for the cruise - I was told to call CR the day after I got back for the rebate amount.

I guess because of the March 15 deadline, they are collecting the information from the ship right away.

I did call the next day - gave them the cruise I wanted to apply it to - and got a call back that afternoon with the rebate amount and they had already automatically applied it to the cruise that I had.

Give them a call.

Thanks!!!! I'm going to tell them exactly what you were told. There must be a reason they suggested you do this, right? I hate to lose my (fingers crossed) rebate. :)
