Wine-O Posted July 1, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 1, 2015 We are visiting Malaga, are there any beaches close by if so are they within walking distance from were the ship docks:) The ship docks in an industrial port area. There's a train that goes up and down the coast and stops at beach resort areas.

teecee60 Posted July 1, 2015 #4 Share Posted July 1, 2015 (edited) There's also a fantastic tour of INCREDIBLE limestone caves less than an hour north along the coast. ;) :) Edited July 1, 2015 by teecee60
HelenREMfan Posted July 1, 2015 #5 Share Posted July 1, 2015 We are visiting Malaga, are there any beaches close by if so are they within walking distance from were the ship docks:) hi..... if you are on a Celebrity cruise to the western Med this year why not join your roll call where you may find the info you need... and info you didn't even know you needed :) Last year on the Eclipse western Med sailing we docked at Malaga a few hundred yards from a beach visible from the ship. We walked to it, snacked at a very nice beach side cafe - mmmm sardines.... We could have swum in the sea had we wished to. (I tend to save that for the Villefranche stop as it is a delightful little French seaside town.) There are also very nice gardens a little further on to walk to, a HOHO bus service which circulates Malaga very well. There was a scenic "train" at the port one could take for a lift closer in to the town , also "rickshaw-like" transport based there. We have an increasingly active roll call for Aug 30 Eclipse cruise and there are people active on it who are far more knowledgeable than me :) When staying on that coast we drove to Granada from Marbella and I have to say it seemed a long long drive.... it is less distance from Malaga but I would still feel it was a long way. ClaudiaB Posted July 1, 2015 #6 Share Posted July 1, 2015 We did an independent tour of the area around Malaga last fall. We used Spain Day Tours. It was awesome. The Alhambra is also a beautiful place to go. Yes there are beaches but I might be tempted to save those for another time.
Bru92 Posted July 1, 2015 #7 Share Posted July 1, 2015 We are visiting Malaga, are there any beaches close by if so are they within walking distance from were the ship docks:) I recommend re-posting your message in the ports-of-call section to get suggestions and opinions of CC members from other cruise lines other than Celebrity. Rare ladylemondrop Posted July 1, 2015 #9 Share Posted July 1, 2015 Mijas is also well worth a visit, if you are in Malaga, it is a hilltop beautiful little town, very Spanish and very quaint. Lots of little shops/restaurants etc.

Bobal Posted July 1, 2015 #11 Share Posted July 1, 2015 Nice of everyone to give you advice about where else to go but........ since you asked about a beach ........ when we were there a few years ago we caught the train from very close to the port, just a few stops to Los Alamos and spent a very nice few hours on the beach there. It's a sandy beach with lots of facilities - take a look on Google street view
UKBayern Posted July 1, 2015 #12 Share Posted July 1, 2015 The ship docks in an industrial port area. There's a train that goes up and down the coast and stops at beach resort areas. I would also advise to go on the train to Torremolinos, Fuengirola, or other well-known beach towns.
