Carnival / Paradise questions....

Cruising in August, have a couple of questions..

1. No Steakhouse on Paradise? So has anyone tried the "steakhouse selections" in the MDR for the up-charge? Me and DH love steak and DD 15 loves lobster. How was it? Worth it? What's your thoughts?

2. DH doesn't "smoke" but he does enjoy a cigar now and again, anyplace on the Paradise for him to do this?? Cigar bar or anything similar??

3. My 2 bottles of wine, how do you wrap/pack/protect in your carry on? I've never carried "glass" on before, sodas in 12 pack cartons piece of cake but unsure about glass bottles.

4. SS Card/account can there be a limit put on as to a teenagers card?? Dad is worried as we do trust her 150% but DH worried if her card gets misplaced/lost don't think it'll happen we've all cruised before, he was just curious if anyone knew. She will have BB on her card.

4. Speaking of BB, where do you purchase BB, when you arrive at check-in or at one of the bars on board? Is it still a sticker? Or does it show when they ring/ cash out?

Sorry for all the questions, it's been a while since we've cruised and things have changed I see as I've been reading the boards. Can't wait for FTTF which I did get and my CC luggage tags (no more time consuming/fighting with the packing tape like I've done in the past)

Thank you in advance for all your input and knowledge.

I believe that you can put BB on her card without giving her charging privileges, and if for any reason she does lose her card if you do give charging, as long as it is reported lost, they can shut it off. I believe that you can go to GS when you get on and put a limit, or put cash down for her card only. If you go to the casino the first day, they can punch a hole in the card, and she can wear the card rather than have to carry it. Get one of those stretchy wrist lanyards to make it easier for her to keep track of.

Good Day! Just got off the BEAUTIFUL Paradise!

1) You are correct that there is no Steakhouse on the Paradise BUT you can purchase it as an option and Lobster Tail as well. It was $20 a piece. On the Captains night there was Prime Rib and Lobster Tail! We got Lobster Tail and went up to the Lido deck and at some yummy Prime Rib off the buffet! There is yummy Filet Megon at the Sea Day Brunches.

2) I do know there is no "Cigar" bar but there is smoking in the Casino and on one side of the pool.

3) As far as the wines you will want to check the Carnival Cruise line website as the drink policy has changed as of July 9th.

See the link above. It has it all spelled out. :-)

4) Unsure of that answer for that question.

5) BB can be purchased throughout the ship on the day of sailing. There are tables set up. We bought ours at the pool deck bar. It is still a sticker put on the card and when you are in the port of Tampa there is an .11 tax on the pop.

Ask away it's the only way to learn!

You may want to bring a wrist watch if you don't have one so you stay on SHIP time!

I'm sailing this Thursday on the Paradise and was not informed of the new bottled drink policy. Thanks for the heads up. I guess I'll keep that extra case I bought yesterday at home.

4.) Yes, you can put a limit on your teenagers card. And then if/when needed, add more to it. (Doesn't need to be cash, can be applied using your credit card).

We did this 5 years ago on a family cruise when we took our young adult kids. We wanted to cover a certain amount but didn't want them spending recklessly. They surprised us by doing an awesome job managing their spend.

I don't allow my kids charging privileges, but you can use cash to "load" their S&S cards.

For wine, we have a small 31 (or similar) bag that holds 2 bottles. It's got some padding, and I leave the plastic webbing sleeves from the liquor store on my bottles. The wine bag fits in my carry on, I've never had an issue with breakage.

Also with the Bottomless Bubbles you can call the Fun Shops before the cruise and order the BB that way. I is not online, you have to call. Tax will be added that way but its one more thing not to worry about. We went to the coffee shop when we boarded and they had a list and put the stickers on for us.

I have not yet sailed on the Paradise but can help you with your wine packing issue.

Go to the Dollar Store and purchase a pack of the inflatable Water-Wiggles. These are the blow-up arm bands that some children wear in the swimming pool. Place one inflated Water Wiggle around each wine bottle. Place the wine bottles in a draw-string garbage bag and then in your carry-on.

When you get onboard and unpacked, use the garbage bag to store your dirty laundry or to bring home any wet beach towels or swim suits. If you do not have any children cruising with you, then ask a parent poolside if they may want the inflatables for their child.....this way they will not go to waste and it only costs a buck to protect your wine.

We use this method all of the time and it works perfectly.

**** Wishing you a great cruise.

They have steak on the every day menu, you can have every night ..

They have a lobster night as well, if you want 2 order 2, if you want 3, order 3 ... people do, i order 2 .. same as the steak, order 2 if you want em ...

Also, the water slide is small, but is real fast ... :)

We went to walmart and purchased a neoprene wine carrier in the camping section for $10. It carries 2 bottles of wine. It has a handle so you can carry it easily.

No steakhouse on board this ship but the upcharge for the higher quality steaks is a little pricey but worth it for the cut of meat your getting. On elegant night they serve prime rib and lobster on the regular menu. We always get both for surf and turf night.

Even though the Valor does have a steakhouse, we ordered off the for-charge section of the menu one evening in the MDR or last cruise and it was outstanding. ☺

  • 1 month later...

We are sailing on the Paradise on 9/28, and JUST found out today that they no longer will be serving lobster on 4 or 5-night cruises? I'm devastated. Can anyone confirm this, please?

AND, since we paid for our cruise while lobster was on the menu, shouldn't we get a rebate if they are saving the cost of that lobster?

Thanks.

Has anyone had any experience trying to eat gluten free on the Paradise? I am highly allergic and hope I won't have any problems! thanks!

Do a search for Gluten Free and Celiac. Lots of threads. Extremely few reported problems.

I haven't been on the Paradise yet (coming soon!), but I have been on two fantasy class ships. I have NEVER had an issue getting gluten free foods. They also have a gluten free warm chocolate melting cake. You'll have to ask for it and may not be able to get it the first day, but they automatically brought to me every night after I requested it. YUMMY!

Make sure that you tell them in the dining room how allergic you are, and they will be highly considerate regarding cross-contamination.
