Always nice to hear from you Sarah! Thanks for coming along for the ride once again.

Thank you, and I neglected to add.. my last "big" trip was to a concert in NYC..made a week of it in May 2013 and venue may be somewhere in those fabulous pictures you or Patty took...Terminal 5..so going to look on map and look hard to see if I can see it. Your pictures and stories...well..we become cruise and travel family here...

I have always been treated like a queen there...I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS...a special place with more special people living close together.

I have loved my few trips to NYC...just wonderful place..have read and adored all the Helene Hanff books..turned a special friend and WWII vet friend I had for over 20 years on to her and he was up all night with 84 Charring Cross Road and over the years gave me all of them and her one on NYC..I adore her..just adore her period...Title...Apple of my Eye...http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/125038.Apple_of_My_Eye.. Have you or Patty read??? If not you may enjoy...much love, Sarah

RIP dear "Buzz"...

I hope you have enjoyed the sail away from New York. It takes about 45 minutes to reach the VNB. It is much better seen in person, so if you haven’t done it before, put it on your bucket list. We are now leaving New York behind…..

CS0254.JPG

We hung outside until just before 6pm. I decided to head back to the cabin to relax before dinner, while Patti walked around and took pictures. I’ll leave you with her as she photographs some of the venues along the Oceanview Promenade. She started with the Early Seating passengers filing into the Gold Pearl Restaurant which is all the way in back of the ship….

Soon it was time to head to our first dinner of the cruise. We had the Late Seating on the upper level (Deck 4), of the Gold Pearl Restaurant. I had emailed the maitre d’ a few weeks prior to the cruise and requested a booth for two (Table # 515), which is exactly what we received. Our wait staff, Bernie, Daniel, & Ever were not the most efficient group we have had (except for Bernie), but they got the job done. Here are Patti and myself at our first dinner…..

CS0327.JPG

CS0328.JPG

It’s gotten to the point that we know these old menus by heart. We can’t wait to sail on the Breeze and experience the American Table, and the American Feast again! Anyway, we do have our favorites. Tonight, we both started off with the chicken tenders…..

CS0329.JPG

Patti also had the cream of tomato soup…..

CS0330.JPG

For our mains, we both had the sweet and sour shrimp……

CS0331.JPG

I also had an order of linguini with sausage and peppers…..

For our desserts, Patti had the butter pecan ice cream, and I had the chocolate ice cream. Looking up at the ceiling, I guess those things are supposed to represent oysters with pearls, but to me they look like fried eggs!!! Lol.

CS0333.JPG

After dinner, we went across the way to The Web, to set up an internet account so that we could communicate with Ryan via email. In the Robusto Bar, the theme was Latin music, provided by the Hispaniola Trio…..

CS0334.JPG

We decided to try our luck at the Royal Flush Casino. Outside of the casino on the Oeanview Promenade, party music was being played by Music Boardwalk…..

CS0335.JPG

Patti played the slots, and I played blackjack for an hour or so, before we decided to call it a night. We both broke even for our time played. Here is some casino information provided by the Player’s Club…..

CS0336.jpg

CS0337.jpg

When we got back to the cabin we found our first towel animal waiting for us…..

CS0338.JPG

It was a GREAT first day!!!!

Coming up next: Our first sea day.

Jeff, what a pleasant surprise...another Jamman54 review!!! Haven't been on CC much the past few days (I still haven't managed to teach this house how to self-clean) and when I have been, I've been re-reading several reviews of the southern itinerary out of San Juan. Reason? We just booked another Liberty cruise out of San Juan over the 4th of July weekend. :D Although we did that itinerary in 2013 on Valor, there are so many other things we want to see & do this time...decisions, decisions. I found some free time today and happened to notice you're in the process of another Splendor review, so have been following along and have just caught up at this point.

I know you mentioned you almost didn't do a review...so glad you're doing one! I love your pictures of the NYC sailaways, as always and I'm definitely going to follow along till the end. I love your reviews. BTW, congratulations to Ryan!

What is the Taste Bar? I was on the Splendor 2 years ago and that wasn't there. What was in it's place, do you know? What other changes have there been since 2013?

Taste bar is where you can a "sample" of a food that is served on the ships. For example, one night is the Cucina Del Capitano (even though that restaurant is not on that ship), and others. IIRC, taste bar is only open on sea days sometime in the late afternoon, like around 5-7 or so. We went for a sort of an "appetizer". It is free, and a very small portion, just a "taste". I believe when I was on the Splendor in 2009 that area was a sushi bar, not 100% positive though.

Great review Jeff. Hubby wants to get back on the Splendor one day.

Thanks for reading! The Taste Bar as mentioned above replaced the Sushi Bar, which was called the California Roll.

Thanks for reading! I'm sure you will enjoy your cruise on the Splendor. The VIP gift is still the travel game board. Almost all of our sail away shots were taken on decks 9,10,& 11 aft.
