Rare cr8tiv1 Posted July 28, 2015 #76 Share Posted July 28, 2015 A bit off topic. Lots of people say to leave your tv on. Does anyone know if there is a timer on the tv's???? I am one of those people who has a hard time going to sleep with the tv not on, and I have not found a timer on the controls. Am I missing something? Thanks! Bring your own timer unit. You can reach behind the television, plug in the timer, and plug the tv into the timer. Set it for whatever time you want.
Lsmith52 Posted July 28, 2015 Author #77 Share Posted July 28, 2015 Thanks for all the encouraging words. I'm pretty sure we will enjoy the cruise no matter what type of cabin we have.
Cruisencatlady Posted July 28, 2015 #78 Share Posted July 28, 2015 As a solo cruiser, inside cabins are a great bargain. An IC allows me to cruise at least 2 times a year verses once with the much more expensive balcony rates(unless I can get a killer casino rate). I just look at the pros and cons depending on the rates, and usually the IC wins. Pros: 1. Half as expensive, typically, means more cruising or spending money for excursions or the casino 2. Better for sleeping and taking naps in the dark 3. Less noise from neighbors since nobody is on a balcony next door Cons: 1. No natural sunlight, but plenty of lights 2. No balcony seating, but easy access to outside no matter where your IC is on the ship 3. Slightly smaller than an balcony cabin, but has plenty of places to put stuff away, such as putting the bags under the bed, sticking the little end table in the closet area, or using a hanging shoe bag to organize frequently needed items With so many activities onboard, I rarely am in my cabin unless sleeping or showering. No matter the time of day or night, I've never had a problem finding a quiet spot to listen to the waves and catch the sea breeze on deck. I just need to make sure I'm properly attired before I leave my cabin :)
Gwendy Posted July 28, 2015 #79 Share Posted July 28, 2015 I generally have an inside cabin as I cruise a lot on my own and this is the best for finances. I use the top deck as my balcony LOL. Saying this I loved the balcony cabin when I sailed a couple of years ago. Is the upgrade fairy watching, listening for my cruise next month? RDC1 Posted July 28, 2015 #80 Share Posted July 28, 2015 I just realized that we have been going about this the wrong way. Those of us that often use inside cabins should be telling everyone how bad they are and that no one should ever book one. That way they stay away, the demand drops and we save even more money. So forget everything you have read they are truly horrid, no one in their right mind would ever like one :p:p
cdr1 Posted July 28, 2015 #81 Share Posted July 28, 2015 Beware! I always scared myself when I entered the room. You enter and face a large mirror. It never failed to make me jump!;)

I forgot about that. I did that the first time I walked into an inside cabin.:)
Dreamsailor Posted July 28, 2015 #83 Share Posted July 28, 2015 (edited) We just booked our first inside cabin ever for a 7 day Western Caribbean cruise for next April. We have only booked Suite/mini suite/balcony cabins in the past but decided to see if we could survive an inside cabin without killing each other. We figure the cheaper we can cruise the more often we can cruise..right? We don't spend a lot of time in the cabin usually but we do love spending time on the balcony drinking a glass or two of wine. I sure hope this works! DH and I had an inside room last trip, we didn't really mind. We stayed busy and we enjoy being around others so the Lido deck was fine, and we also went up top the front of the boat and found a secluded area. We enjoyed ourselves, but to be honest we got a cove balcony this time and planning to enjoy being so close to the water. Which ever way you can get to go you will have a fabulous time.;) You might be able to upgrade before you go. #1Nanna Posted July 28, 2015 #84 Share Posted July 28, 2015 We love inside cabins. I always get such awesome sleep because it is so dark. We travel with friends, so we really are not in our cabin very much. Relax & enjoy!!!
framer Posted July 28, 2015 #85 Share Posted July 28, 2015 Out of 15 cruises so far 8 inside 3 OV 3 balcony 1 mini. They are mixed all over the place. 2st AK was the Mini. Most of the insides have been on the NE cruise. That's our cheap cruise per year. If a lot of seadays I prefer a balcony. A cruise is a cruise, I will have a great time. I do different things when in a inside cabin but that just different not worse. The DW just wants to get where her phone call from work stop. Enjoy the cruise.:D PS You get the same food, shows and service regardless of you cabin.
jpj39 Posted July 28, 2015 #86 Share Posted July 28, 2015 I wanted to do a caribbean cruise to celebrate my birthday in Dec I liked the itinerray for the southern caribbean, unfortunately Royal Princess was the only option. I usually book obstuctive views as a single. The Royal does not have obstructive views. I went for the inside cabin on Dolphin deck. the balcony would cost me 2x as much as my inside cabin. didn't want to spend that much money. i have booked june 2016 north cape & summer soltice with balcony. Best to enjoy the sailing into the fiords and Norweigean sights. I picked up some nice tips to use on my inside cabin
Matcodixon Posted July 28, 2015 #87 Share Posted July 28, 2015 After all of these comments, it is ultimately up to you. Personally, once was enough for us to have an inside.. Never again. Balcony preferred but could possible live with an OV as we had one once and it was not terrible. Everyone has their own motives. For those that want to go on as many cruises as possible every year, an inside is the least expensive way to accomplish that especially if one's budget has limitations and this makes the difference in going or not going. For those with a deeper wallet, a suite is the only way to travel. We are somewhere in between. My DW likes trips in our RV as much as I like cruise ships, so we try to do some of each every year. Our budget allows for a Balcony or Mini suite so that is how we roll (sail) You are the only one that can decide what's best (or worth it) for you. Happy cruising! iceleven Posted July 28, 2015 #88 Share Posted July 28, 2015 We have to have a balcony. For one thing, I'd be to claustrophobic. Just love to get up in the morning and sit out on the balcony with a cup of coffee. We'd rather take less cruises and spend more if we have too. Usually get a mini-suite. May I assume you fly to your cruises? Now that's what I regard claustrophobic. 300+ people squeezed into a tube with lousy air can, and does, challenge my capacity for civility. I'm not challenging your POV as I, too, am prone to claustrophobia. I haven't cruised in an inside cabin on Princess but I have once on another cruise line. I believe Princess' cabins are bit smaller than other cruise lines so it might be an issue if I were to book one. However, when the time comes and I have options to cruise 6 times in a year instead of only 3, I'll gladly book an inside.
ksm77 Posted July 29, 2015 #89 Share Posted July 29, 2015 We used to cruise inside cabins but since the first time of cruising in a balcony, we have never had anything less. The balcony is a big deal to us. We don't gamble, do the spa or many extras. We love sitting on our balcony enjoying a glass of wine or room service lunch. It just wouldn't be the same for us. Hope it works out for you. Princess inside cabins are so small, but maybe if it is just 7 days you will be ok. We used to not spend too much time in our cabin but now we find ourselves spending more and more time on our balcony.

SteerageJack Posted July 29, 2015 #92 Share Posted July 29, 2015 We have booked inside and found it to be just fine. We are not people to sit in a cabin, so it is just a place to sleep. We use an LED night light to provide a bit of illumination during the night.

On the other hand, lots of people use elevators.
susancruzs Posted July 29, 2015 #94 Share Posted July 29, 2015 Go for it, to cruise or not to cruise, that is the question. I would not stay home because I have to have a certain cabin, unless someone is severely claustrophobic I don't get not cruising. Sailing single, long B2B cruises, 25 days last year, 26 days this October, in an inside, no big deal. I've had balconies, mini suite, outside, other assorted cabins in my 30+ years of cruising, but insides are not a problem. I do the TV thing, turn it to the ship web cam, when the screen gets light in the a.m., time to get up! :)
davekathy Posted July 29, 2015 #95 Share Posted July 29, 2015 Nothing wrong with inside cabins. I guess this falls in the category of "to each their own". We've done inside, ocean view and our 2017 RCCL Cruise on the Jewel Of the Seas will be in a balcony for the first time. We got a fantastic deal.
