First time D--tipping in D Lounge?

Recommended Posts

The amount differs depending on the service, no service=no tip, great service=great tip, etc..

We usually tip before the last night to make sure the people deserving get the tip.

Plus we usually tip the waiters each day when we're finished (if we at a table), or the bar tender if we're sitting at the bar.

I've noticed over the years if you tip once bigger at the end, you're remembered.

The amount=what you can afford comfortably.:)

Do you tip in Sterling or Euro's when sailing in and out of the UK? It is a bit silly for us to change currency into US$ for the crew to have to change it back into sterling or euros to spend it.

We tip in $ but would also use €. If they are sailing out of the UK, they are unlikely to get get time off on the busy changeover day, so would be unable to spend any £.

While the concierge may seem to do little for us personally, I can tell you if there are any issues with the waiters or food they are coordinating that. They make sure the size of the any overflow area suits the amount of passengers that are likely to come to the lounge.

We have been in the Diamond lounge when a drink waiter has needed to be encouraged to give ALL of the customers the same service, and that happened at a higher level. The concierge did not do it in front of passengers.

So if the concierge seems to be doing it easy it is more likely they are doing it efficiently. So they all deserve a thank you if you are happy with the food and drinks.

The amount we enjoy the lounge is certainly worth giving some gratuities for. We like using it a few times during the day, for coffee, breakfast, lunch and snacks during the day when it is that time, and just sometimes to sit and read in a quiet place while the room is being attended to. :)

Also, yes, they do things at the service desk, we have seen them helping there, or getting stuff organised there.

On our just completed cruise we had a GS and used both the DL and CL. We tipped both concierges as they were excellent. We gave them each $50. Our guideline is $25 from each of us as we are a married couple. We also gave the bar/wait staff $20 each on the last night of the cruise. This was a bit more than we usually spend but we used both lounges and there were several staff. All were excellent. When we go to the bars on ship and use our drink vouchers we tip $1 per drink in cash.

I hate to admit this, we have been guilty about not tipping after they started the voucher system. When we used the other bars we figured Crown & Anchor tipped the bar staff. We were very wrong. We have since stated tipping $5 per round.

Not Diamond just first time in Suites, but what do Concierge's actually do?

Concierge can answer any questions you may haven about cruising. Also make reservations for shows, restaurants, cabanas, shore excursions. Help with anything that you might need. They are seated at a desk in the lounge, usually have posted hours, and generally run the lounge and staff.

We also now tip $1 per drink. We did tip at the end of the cruise once when we realized the same servers were with us for the whole cruise and that seemed fine, too. Everybody happy - well, except that we had to wait for what seemed like an inordinately long time on the last evening to give the envelopes. Now we tip each round. :)

Thanks. Much appreciated.

Print boarding passes for your trip home, I'm not sure if that is a normal service or just her helping after we had a horrible time getting checked in using the regular computer.

Tipping - we do it the last night in the lounge, but the servers are normally the same every night. If one is missing we've left an envelope. The voucher we do by night at the bar.

When we were on Explorer earlier this year there were the usual 2 servers in the DL and one of them was not as attentive as the other. We tipped 'our guy' at the end of the third day as he was always there to refill our glasses and knew what our drinks were.

When the lounge was a little busy he was always there to find us seats and push tables together to create space. He got another tip every 3 or 4 days and then a tip at the end. The smaller tips ensured we got good service through the course of the 12 days rather than waiting til the end.
