Star or other ship to British Isles?

I have had my eye on a 12 day cruise on the Star, out of Copenhagen, to Amsterdam, Ireland, Scotland and England, hoping to have it be by Spring of 2017 trip. I am shocked to see that the Star will be doing entirely different itineraries. I can not find a single cruise listed for my desired itinerary or anything close to it, after September 2015. Does anyone know if NCL is planning to replace it with another ship? I am so disappointed!

Due to adding Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, the Star will be moving there. I don't remember what ship is replacing the Star in those ports. NCL will have the new and updated itineraries up on August 24th if I remember correctly.

The Star only does the British Isles cruise once in a while, maybe every 2-3 years, if that. Star does the Baltic cruises every summer and will continue doing so for now but instead of doing TA's back to NA, she will head down to Asia/Australia.

For spring/summer 2017 itineraries, there might not be any information prior to December 2015.

I personally reckon Jade will replace Star out of Copenhagen, Star surely stays in Venice for summer 2017. Her Grand Voyage from Dubai is ending there in April 2017.

Whether there will be a British Isles cruise in 2017, no information yet.

According to NCL's latest press release the Jade will be homeported in Tampa from Nov 2016 to April 2017 and will do Western and Eastern Caribbean cruises.

 

There is LOTS of information about new itineraries for various NCL ships in that press release.

In fact there is a lot of information, but only until April 2017, and not beyond, regarding the summer season for 2017! [emoji6]

 

I assume that NCL Jade should sail from Copenhagen after her season out of Tampa in winter 2016. [emoji5]️

I still don't understand why you think the Jade will sail from Copenhagen iin 2017 instead of the Barcelona - Italy - Greece itinerary like now.

Oh, well, we'll see which European port her April 2016 transatlantic takes her to.

I think Jade sails from Copenhagen in 2017, since NCL Star ends up in Venice in spring 2017, after coming from Dubai.

I personally see Star sailing from Venice in summer 2017.

A ship replacing Star from Copenhagen is required. [emoji5]️

Do you definitely want to sail on an NCL ship for this itinerary or would you consider another cruise line?

My DH and I are booked on a Princess land/cruise tour of the British Isles in June 2016.

The land tour is done first ,focusing on the Ring of Kerry area of Ireland.

We then fly from Cork (Cobh) to Southampton ,England to begin the cruise.

I do think Princess has British Isles cruises for 2017 as well.

This may be something for you to consider.

Yep princess always has british isles cruise and rcl might have them as well a lot of options for you

Before NCL did the British Isles, we did a great BI cruise on Celebrity Infinity.

I agree, and if they needed any reassurance that BI cruises would be popular they only need look at the upcoming cruise this September.

 

I'm not sure why there is any hesitation on NCL's part in cruising around the British Isles. But, the Star will do her exciting new itineraries, including those downunder and be back to do the Baltic cruises in the summer, so maybe they'll design something that includes at least part BI's, part Baltic.

We did Baltic Capitals from Dover on NCL Sun in 2010 or so. Why would I want to spend an extra day at the beginning and end of the cruise in airports rather than on the cruise from/back to the UK?

Apparently, you wouldn't, however, since there are many others interested in cruising around the BIs, it might be of interest to them.

Just did round UK on Princess - excellent cruise. 1 possible issue for NCL might be the fact that the casino cannot open every night - it was open less than half the time. Just a thought.

The British Isles is also on my list of places I want to go. I really wish NCL would offer more cruises in this area. I have never understood why NCL has always limited the cruises they offer here.

 

There is some hope for this with the new management. On the recent conference call for investors they talked about using new, varied itineraries that have proven so successful in establishing brand loyalty in the Oceania and Regent lines. It has the unfortunate name of "itinerary scarcity" when they are talking to investors, but for cruisers it means that a ship won't be doing the same 7 day turn-around to the same 4 ports week after week, then move over to Europe to do the same 4 ports on another 7 day rotation. That's "itinerary abundance" but it sure gets boring ... so boring, people book them and stay on board while in some of the ports.

 

I've always drooled over the Oceania cruises; no "milk runs" week after week to places I've already been, and a person who wants to see new things can definitely find a unique itinerary. Now if the prices were just in line with a mass market cruise line, even if on the higher side. So I hope NCL follows through on this idea.

 

We're eying the Princess BI cruise for 2017 right now, but prefer NCL.

Yes, we're in the same boat so to speak. Also looking at Princess or P&O in order to sail this itinerary. But, we also prefer NCL and enjoy not having to pack formal clothes. Oh well, we'll see what happens.

 

Interesting comment about the Casino having to be closed a lot. It is very possible that could be a factor, although they always did Bermuda cruises even before the new rules when the Casino was closed while in port. But who knows!

Several factors I think:

 

1/ Princess, RCL and P&O already do a lot of cruises in and out of Southampton. NCL would be very much last to the party and would have to discount accordingly. NCL do not advertise themselves at all in the UK.

 

2/ To get from Southampton to anywhere sunny takes about 2 days sailing time. Furthermore the water can be choppy in the English Channel. For a UK resident it can be just as easy to fly to Barcelona and sail from there.

 

3/ Tipping is not part of UK culture, so I suspect the staff wouldn't be queuing up to service a UK cruise.

 

4/ NCL is still a relatively small cruiseline. The ships they have make more money elsewhere. Perhaps as they add the new mega-ships then one of the smaller ships will come to the UK.

 

That said, as a Platinum member living in Northern Ireland I would love to see sailings from UK and/or Ireland.

I've not seen an NCL brochure in a travel agent for years.......but its always full of RCL P&O and now MSC brochures.

I'm not sure RCL and Princess have trouble staffing UK cruises.
