Disembarcation

We are Elite and know we have priority disembarkation but have never taken advantage of it. Say as a "for instance" we have Red 8 getting off the ship at 10:00. What is the procedure if we want to get off the ship earlier?

Thanks in advance!:)

As I understand it, that only applies to in ports during the trip. If you want to get off at the end sooner, just go to the pursers desk and ask for the appropriate tags. I did it when I was gold even. You do get the benefit of the disembarkation lounge however.

Sometimes you will receive a disembarkation form in your stateroom. You would fill out your preferred time and turn it in a the purser's desk.

If you are assigned a time that won't work for you, then you can go to the purser's desk and request a time change (the sooner, the better).

If you choose to do the "walk-off", still go to the Elite disembarkation lounge. We got a few minutes head start over the passengers that were waiting in the dining room. Basically, we were the first off the ship.

I agree, make sure you do this 2 or 3 days before the end of the cruise.

It almost always happens that the time I've indicated is not even close to the time I am assigned, and when I cruise with my sister and we're traveling together (separate cabins), we almost always get different disembarkation colors. I wind up going as soon as I can to the Passenger Services Desk and get the time/color I want. It's never been a problem.

Maybe at one time in the past there was a meaning to that benefit, but that was before current procedures were set up.

Back when the benefit had some meaning, you needed to ask the Captain's Circle rep to work with the disembarkation fairy to get the assigned time you wanted.

But as others day now, you request the time you want and if that is not what you are assigned, go to the purser's desk to have it changed.

Within your assigned color/time, there is no benefit to get off first.

However, I have been on cruises in the elite/platinum/suite departure lounge when we did get a three minute head start before those in the assigned meeting place were given the OK to disembark.

It is my understanding that Princess assigns the times of disembarkation based upon the flight times of the passengers----earlier flight = earlier disembarkation. I also know that in my experience, the luggage is sorted by the color and number of the disembarkation tags. We have been told that the Customs agents will not allow anyone to pick up their luggage until their color and number has been called. I assume this is to allow enough time for their dogs to sniff all the luggage in a group.

Elite and Platinum Captain's Circle members do have their own lounge to await disembarkation but they are not officially given priority for leaving the ship before other passengers. That benefit is reserved for boarding the ship on embarkation day. Elite passengers also get priority in leaving the ship when tenders take you to shore in a port where the ship anchors out rather than tying up to a dock. In this case Elites can go to the exit on deck 4 and join the rear of any line already there. They do not have to wait in any lounge or dining room for their tender group number to be called.

Pam, you seem quite knowledgeable about cruises. I was wondering if you knew if I could bring a small bottle of clorox bleach on board. It is not for cleaning but for a daily medical procedure, required by my dentist?

Thanks in advance

I don't see why not as long as you don't plan to use it in the ship's washers. Princess doesn't check for liquid medicines and I assume you're not going to bring it by the pint or quart. You should be fine.

Yes but only if Princess has the flight details. Many with independent flights never enter the info into the personalizer.

It does work well when you enter those times. :)

The form they disperse during the cruise has an area to enter the times as well so they can assign the correct timed bag tags and disembarkation times.

All good answers.

It's a good thing that Princess doesn't have as a perk for Elite passengers the ability to have priority disembarkation. Can you imagine what it would be like if all the Elites decided to get off the ship at 8:00?

We always go to Passenger Services and request the earliest time possible that makes sense and enjoy the Danish, coffee and juice in the Elite/Platinum lounge until we are called.

According to the Princess website, Elite passengers have this benefit:

Priority Disembarkation

If you have independent onward travel you may contact the Circle Host towards the end of your voyage to state your request to disembark with your preferred disembarkation group. If you'd like to linger onboard longer, we'll be more than happy to give you a later disembarkation group. If you'd like to be one of the first groups to disembark, we'll gladly accommodate - the choice is yours!

One of the benefits of Platinum/Elite/Suite is a "special" disembarkation lounge. Although it's nothing special (an "empty" MDR with some snacks and beverages), one perk is a reserved elevator to get you up to deck 7 for disembarkation. An escort takes you from the lounge to that elevator, so the elevator operator knows you're eligible for the private services.

On our recent cruise aboard Ruby Princess, this also included an escort from the elevator to a midship exit point that was reserved for P/E/S only. There was no line whatsoever, and we were off the ship smoking fast.

It depends on the ship, of course. The lounge is not always in a DR.

We dislike the disembarkation lounge and won't use it.

CC host lets anybody/everybody in. Its packed and uncomfortable. :(

A nice lounger on the Promenade deck for us.

Depends on the CC host. I once had one who was a regular tyrant on the issue. If you can find a lounger on the deck, go for it.
