Anthillers Posted September 2, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 2, 2015 Dec 10th Singapore to Bali is tendered for Lombok and Komodo islands , do Azamara provide free transfers to the islands and if so is it easy to arrange your own local tours shoreside? Grandma Cruising Posted September 2, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 2, 2015 Azamara always provide free tenders and also free shuttle buses if the tender takes you into a port area. We have arranged our own excursions on cruises, either on our own or with other passengers. As long as the tour company knows which ship you're on they will know where to meet you. Not always....in Porto today, shuttle is only to the harbour gate which is5 miles from town.
marinaro44 Posted September 3, 2015 #4 Share Posted September 3, 2015 In some ports, free shuttles are not allowed, for the benefit of taxi drivers. Gibraltar is just one example.
pcur Posted September 3, 2015 #5 Share Posted September 3, 2015 In some ports, free shuttles are not allowed, for the benefit of taxi drivers. Gibraltar is just one example. I'm not surprised about Gibraltar. I think of it as "Our Town of Perpetual Spending". It has to be one of the most expensive places I've ever been to. One woman got back on the ship and said she'd rather go shopping in London, because it was less expensive!

Rare uktog Posted September 8, 2015 #8 Share Posted September 8, 2015 Things have obviously changed as we were in Porto this time last year on Journey and the free shuttle buses took us right into town. Yes that was what we heard and what we were expecting. There was big play made that the only way to get to Porto was on their "on your own" $29 each excursion. Actually once we were helped by the tourist information in the terminal a 2 minute walk took us to an excellent 1.85€ per person each way bus complete with fast free wifi :) Wonder if the absence of shuttles is a worrying trend (Bilbao was not going to have shuttles but I think many complained and passengers were advised the day before that this "extra" had been added

I would suggest that you go to the rollcall for the cruise, read the posts and look at tours that have already been organised which you may be able to join. marinaro44 Posted September 8, 2015 #10 Share Posted September 8, 2015 (edited) Dec 10th Singapore to Bali is tendered for Lombok and Komodo islands , do Azamara provide free transfers to the islands and if so is it easy to arrange your own local tours shoreside?Because of the presence of these rather dangerous dragon critters, Komodo Island will not let you off the ship unless you have a prearranged tour, either through the ship or booked ahead of time with a tour guide. On our Princess cruise that stopped at Komodo, ship's tours were booked up in advance of the cruise. There is nothing else to do on Komodo other than take an escorted walk to see the dragons and visit a nearby beach. Don't know about Lombok other than I'm sure Azamara will tender you to a dock onshore. From there it would be up to you. You will enjoy the experience. See if this link works. I apologize for the music, but you tube rejected my good music for copyright reasons. We did the village, the pink beach and the park.
