On HAL, what can OBC be used for?

Looking at sailing on Zuiderdam. Will be getting both OBC from TA and from HAL. Once on board, what can I use it for ?

1. A day or week pass for the Thermal Suite/pool type area?

2. Gratuities for ship personnel (I think it is the $12/day thing)?

3. Shore excursions?

4. Upgrade a drink package? (Think we get a package that max's at $8 per drink, I assume there is a higher level package)

5. A Luggage Valet type program (they take your bags to airport)

And if we get a free dinner at Pinnacle Grill, can we do an even swap for dinner at Canelletto(?).....just more our style.

Thanks.

You can apply it toward Thermal Suite.

Yes

3. Shore excursions?

Yes

Probably. I've read here a number of times when that has been permitted.

Thanks.

My answers in Bold. :)

Sail got to say all the "Yes" answers, so I'll take the noes. There is no upgrade to the drinks package - it's 15 drinks per day up to $8 per for beer, wine, liquor, specialty coffees, soda, etc.

HAL will carry your luggage to airport at no extra charge if you book their shuttle service, but something like Luggage Direct is a third party service which you'd have to book (and pay) seperately.

Just to note: Pinnacle Grill is $29 per person - and really a lovely experience. Canelletto is $10 per person - and we love it. But for the extra $20 you can do both.I am assuming that there are two of you.) I think that is the best of both worlds......

I don't know what you mean by an "upgraded" beverage package. Fifteen drinks per day, per person, is a lot of drinks, and the $8.00 will get premium liquors. We found that they only drinks we couldn't get were good brandy and good wines.

As for the Pinnacle Grill not being your style, if you enjoy eating in the MDR, you will enjoy the Pinnacle. Try it - you may like it.

OP: About my upgrade question on beverage packages, Celebrity has two tiers, Classic and Premium. Just wondered if HAL did the same thing.

About Pinnacle, I have heard the dinner experience while wonderful, can be a bit long (longer than the MDR), hence my comment, not our style.

No

No longer than a good landside restaurant. Cooking to order does take a bit more time...

Just about anything you bill to your cabin account (bar bills, shopping on board, spa charges) should be handled by OBC, with the exception of casino charges. Some have said slot charges have gone through, but I was told advances at the table games were not chargeable to OBC. I would call HAL Ship Services. They should have a list of items not chargeable to OBC.

HAL has only 1 drink package.

Thus no upgrading. But someone mentioned here that if they ordered a drink that cost more than $8, the $8 will be taken off the Signature Beverage Package and the rest will be charged to your shipboard account.

I hope you are right that HAL now does that.

You 'might' be thinking of my comments when I returned from my NCL cruise that they credit the $11 per drink that they allow and if your drink is higher than that, they only charge the difference. I have never read that HAL now does that but it is very possible I simply missed such a post.

Recently a poster mentioned that they had arranged to have their desert delivered to their cabin for a late evening snack. As one one who can feel his knees lock up over a long dinner, this is an option we will take on our next cruise.:)

It can be used for anything that is charged to your ship's account. Those funds are simply applied to your onboard statement.

My wife and I are booked on Oosterdam cruise (7n roundtrip Vancouver -Alaska) on 20 Sept under the Anniversary Sale with a $100 per person onboard credit. Does this mean $200 is applied to our onboard statement or is it individually credited/debited per passenger. By the way, I only used one credit card for both of us.

Thanks

If you're registered together on one credit card, the OBC is credited to your general account. We had the Anniversary promo on our cruise, and both credits appeared on the statement in my husband's name, I guess because he was the first name on the booking. But the computer didn't care which of us spent money. ;)

Also, if you're wondering if the Anniversary "shore excursion" credit is limited to shore excursions, it isn't. It was treated like any other OBC.

The Anniversary promo gave us beverage cards, rather than the fifteen drinks a day card. I like that better because the 15-drink card's $8 limit won't cover a bottle of wine, and they won't let you "trade" several of the $8 drinks for a bottle of wine.

What is FCD?

And we have had some credit that went unused that was applied back to our credit cards..is that still allowed?

Sherry

Future Cruise Deposit. You purchase it onboard only and its good for a reduced deposit on a future cruise. As part of the purchase you get an OBC (onboard credit) to be used on a future cruise for an amount ($) which is based on the length of your future cruise and the cabin category you purchase.
