Cruise Cards Demagnetizing

:D Stimulater.... it stimulates me. Sends electrical type shocks down my legs. My grandkids delight in telling everyone I have a computer in my butt. They make me the butt of all their jokes hoping I'll get it in the end. My grandson just thinks it "shocking, grandma, just shocking".

Oh, okay, so it was a typo. I never realized that there was any kind of stimulator that was implanted in people. I honestly couldn't tell what you were talking about. Once again, it's a good day because I've learned something I didn't know before! Thanks for the info.

BTW, nice plays on words. Now that I know watts up, I'll go back and start rereading Voltaire. (Ohm my gosh, I just had to get in a couple of my own.) :D:D

DD has one implanted in her chest attached to her head. She has ICHT and basically it is to give pain relief fortunately it also stops the brain fluid flowing out of her ears and eyes.

We hadn't thought about it effecting cards, mso we've just chatted about it, another thing to watch out for.

The reality of it is there are 3 kinds of hotel locking systems, only 2 of which apply to cruise lines because they also need a POS. Key, magnetic and RFID/touch (there are a few systems that use a chip like in new credit cards but they are very rare)

Of the two that apply, the cost of magnetic cards and readers is WAY WAY less than RFID devices, although the gap is narrowing. With that in mind, unless there is some way to monetize the switch to the more reliable RFID (like Disney did with Magic Bands), there's not much incentive to do so. They can add an extra person to guest services for less than the cost of issuing 3000 RFID over magnetic, forget about replacing all the door locks and POS terminals. Right now, 3000 RFID cards, depending on capability run about $750 (they cost more to print too because they are thicker). 5000 mag cards. $50.

We were on the Holland Amsterdam, last month, and my daughter had to have 7 cards.

In 2014 -2015, I took 8 Princess cruises, and on each and every one of them, I had to get a new card at least once, often multiple times.

Remember that the cruise cards used by these cruise lines come from the lowest cost bidder, just like the coffee made from a syrup.

I never had any problems before my last cruise in May. I kept having to get new cards, even after I made sure to keep it away from my iPad or anywhere near it for that matter. I still had problems and finally bought a lanyard after about five replacements (I never wore one before as didn't want to look like a cruise snob, lol). Got better with lanyard, but I think I did still need one more replacement. Whatever, I'm all for the lanyard now, made things much easier all around, especially in the casino, lol!

Aha! I'll bet the coffee is made using ground up expired cruise cards. That would explain the taste :D. Seriously, though, I remember that our earliest cruises still used old-school metal room keys. Never had a problem with them demagnetizing!

We just returned from 10 days on the Caribbean Princess.

During the week I observed several door locks on our hall way being worked on by Ship Staff.

Also, several time when I inserted my card along with the blinking red-green lights I observed a flash of yellow light.

Then our door refused to open. Up to Passenger Services we went. They rekeyed both of our cards. Door still would not open. Back to the desk we went. One of the Women working the desk came back to our cabin and tried her pass key. Door would not open.

She contacted our room steward and his pass key would not open the door. Next a staff officer was called and his pass key would not work. So, he departed and returned with an electronic over ride key. After he opened the door he replaced the batteries in the lock.

After that, no more problems. Will pay attention in the future if I see a yellow light flash when inserting the card.

We recently returned from a 23 day TA cruise on the Caribbean Princess.

During the first week the safe in the cabin stopped working and they had to replace the four batteries in it.

Our cabin safe waiting for new batteries

During the rest of the cruise I had to have my card replaced three times. The wife never had a problem with her card.

I wonder how often batteries in the cabin locks need to be replaced?
