OK to Dress Like an Officer?

I think it might be fun to dress like an officer for a couple evenings on my next cruise. I am thinking of a white epaulette shirt, shoulder boards, white pants, white athletic shoes; maybe also a simple name tag. This is just to go to main dining room, casino, bars--no interest in trying to get in crew only areas. Any issues with pranking as a cruise ship officer?

Its all about the fun.

Imitating an officer could and should get you thrown off. That is a rank on the ship, and could cause confusion. I don't think the captain would find it funny, and has the power to throw you off the boat, and or put you in the brig.

Unless you've earned the privilege of dressing like an officer, I wouldn't. That would show disrespect for those who served and earned the privilege of wearing the uniform and medals. Think twice about what you want to do.

Yep allot of posts about impersonating a police officer but this thread is it for cruise ship officer. Sounds like a pile of [emoji90]

According to the TV Show "What Not to Wear", dressing as a sailor on a cruise ship is a big No No. They had this wack-a-doodle woman on one of their episodes who liked to "theme" dress up everywhere she went and she had a sailor outfit that she liked to wear on cruises. It went straight in the trash can.

If you have to ask, then you already know the answer to the question.

AHOY SHIPMATE,

COULD BE DANGEROUS, SOME VET ( after a few drinks) could take it the WRONG way and undress you on the spot.

Some of US worked pretty hard for the privilege of wearing those stripes and medals.

Seriously speaking, and as someone who wears a crew member uniform to work, I would find it amusing if I saw someone dressed up in a way that is obviously NOT trying to deceive or impersonate a real crew member; think kids wearing Captain hats, old ladies wearing sailor or nautical themed sweaters, or the one friend who lost a bet and was forced to dress up as a very hairy and butch looking female flight attendant, to the amusement of the rest of his friends and passengers (which did happen on one of my flights. [emoji15])

But if someone was trying way too hard to dress exactly like a real crew member, I would find it disturbing, and it would even be a cause for alarm. Sadly, we live in a world where the days of having fun with this kind of stuff are over. Terrorism and security breach threats are very real, and impersonating a crew member will not be taken too lightly, even if the intention is completely innocent.

We are trained to look for any suspicious or out of the ordinary activity and report it immediately. This would most likely qualify as such.

Go ahead and start practicing by impersonating a police officer. You can then see how serious it can be before you board the ship and get thrown off in a foreign country. I wear a badge and would not hesitate to put an end to someone impersonating me or my fellow workers in police, fire or ems. At times people wear t-shirts with police, fire or ems to be cool. It's not cool.
